I know there's a few of us on here. Would be interesting to know what you're up to (as opposed to this just being a lot of youtube vids of good guitarists).
What guitars do you have? What style do you play? How do you practice?

Played in the metal band Orange Goblin for 26 years touring around the world with R’s shirts and flags displayed where possible . 9 albums and 2 live albums . ‘Retired’ 2 years ago for loads of reasons ..all of them selfish 😂.
Still got my 1971 Fender P bass in storage with the band (they are still recording and touring ) which I should retrieve as it’s the most expensive thing I own by some distance 😄
Ha quality, definitely get that bass back! Saw you lot two or three times. Great stuff!
My main memory beyond the riffs was your singer being absolutely huge.

This new smart guitar is working out very nicely. It's quite small which makes it decent for playing on the sofa/on a garden swing.
It's acoustic but all the effects etc are built in. It has a tuner, metronome, practice routines etc etc but the main thing I use it for is picking a beat and then looping tracks over it. Really useful if you want to do something like a II V I chord progression and then solo over it.
It plays well, has a very flat neck and I've gotten used to the look of it. I like it.

If Noel Gallagher rocked up on stage with this beautiful Epiphone today, I'd imagine it would cause quite a different reaction to the on it received back in 1996. What a guitar though.

Well, shockingly for me I've actually booked a guitar lesson this Friday.
It's with a jazz player and I'm hoping he can getting me thinking about guitar like a jazz player and break 37 years of programming from my brain.
I hope it's worth it.

First lesson was Friday a couple of weeks ago. I'm doing one every fortnight so I'm back tomorrow (although I've currently got THROAT AIDS but deffo not Covid so we'll see).
Anyway, it was odd.
The teacher was an old boy. I showed him what I'd worked out for myself. A little understanding of diatonic chords and the 2 5 1 progression. He could see that I can play immediately but I think I'm a tricky student as he's used to teaching kids grades or how to play AC/DC songs or some shit.
My thing was 'I just want to be able to play jazz guitar' so my homework has been to learn Summertime as that's a jazz standard. It's all 7th chords with some minor 9ths and a 6th in there. It's alright I guess.
Thing is I'd ask him stuff and he'd be like 'don't worry about that yet' but then in moments of quiet he'd play some little jazz flourish thing, like a cool descending run ending in a sweet chord and I'd be like 'THAT! I WANT TO LEARN TO DO THAT!'
So that's where I'm at at the moment.

If you want to play Jazz, learn your chord families and arpeggios. Start with Autumn leaves and progress to All the things you are for key changes. I taught guitar for over thirty years and chord families are the big eye opener

I've worked out how chords relate to each other and investigated arpeggios and modes but making it sound cool and jazzy is the issue at the moment. I'll keep working on it though.

when I started lessons (2020) I was completely green... essentially knew nothing about playing guitar. The guy who teaches me is a few years younger than me but we pretty much like the same music (I suppose he is a bit more rocky and I'm a bit more Brit Pop but there's a definite cross over on the Venn Diagram)... He is an incredible guitarist. He was in a band in the late 90's who were signed to EMI and released 1 album before the original drummer got really ill and the whole thing fell apart. Anyway it really works for me because I do 1/2 an hour of theory and 1/2 an hour of playing together in a live type environment. What I really like most is hearing a brand new song on the radio, then going to said tutor and asking him about it... He then looks it up on YouTube and within a couple of minutes he has sussed it/playing along exactly to it and then explaining how it all works. I love it and my only regret is not starting guitar 30+ years ago.

Youtube is insane these days. Really great resource.
Look out for Mr Tabs (if you want to play rocky sort of songs) and Anyone Can Play Guitar (a UK guitar nerd guy who teaches you Smiths songs and whatever).
The big thing is watch how they play and learn to understand guitar tab. It's amazing how good you get if you learn difficult stuff.

Yes YouTube is very good. I learnt all my modes years ago but found if you understand the scale-arpeggio relationship you don’t need modes. But talking about them makes you sound impressive with their complicated names. If you’re into Jazz go to YouTube and check out... The Lenny Breau show 1966. It’s a bit of a slow starter but some of the best jazz guitar you will see. Breau never gets much of a mention but was incredible. And stabbed to death by his wife so a real musicians ending.

getting stabbed by your wife is quite a muso way to go, but surely john Entwistle's death was the most Rock N Roll?
Death and legacy Entwistle died in Room 658 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Paradise, Nevada, on 27 June 2002, one day before the scheduled first show of the Who's 2002 United States tour. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with Alycen Rowse, a local stripper and groupie, who awoke the next morning to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. The Clark County medical examiner determined that his death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine. Entwistle already had severe heart disease and usually smoked 20 cigarettes a day.

All I can add is stick with it. I gave up playing for years having “plateaued” and not getting any better. I started again, buying a Fender Player Strat - but I just went from 5th rate to 8th rate. It seems years since Jeff Beck said to me, ruefully stroking his chin “ hmm, I could learn a lot from you “. I said “ No Jeff, it's better to develop your own style “. Well, I made that bit up, obviously.

I haven't tried but it would be a great one to be able to play. Stick at it, you might be able to crack it over time. I have spent three years slowly trying to teach myself to play "Hey Joe" and at first, I struggled to work out *what* I should be playing, let alone how.
However, through lots and lots of repetition, literally five times a week on average, I have started to be able to produce a passable version of the first note - LOL - I mean, section
Thanks for posting the video.

I was sat in the Gibson Custom Shop near Nashville, in 2006 I think it was, and been a long time admirer of Alvin Lee RIP. On the rack was a ltd. edition Big Red replica for an affordable, but pricy, $6000. I played it a little and it felt like perfection so I was seriously giving consideration to getting it. I was held back by the thought that I would have to carry it around for about three weeks as I was on a road trip of the eastern US and I was concerned it would get damaged or stolen from the hotel rooms before I could get it back to the UK. I did discuss shipping & insurance but it added a further almost $500 so I regretfully left the shop without it. Without any shadow of doubt, this was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my almost 70 years. I still hate myself for not taking the risk. A while back when I was feeling a bit flush I had a look at buying one second hand... not a chance, I couldn't find a single one for sale with the authentication paperwork.
