One of the samples on it is from Stevie's 'Fingertips Pt2'. The 'say yeah!' bit.

Also a Prince cover.
My first record i went and bought on my own was Rappers Delight. Could only get the 12" version. Got from the record shop at the top of Lansbury Drive opposite the Crown in Hayes.

The first record i remember buying was Love Me Do in October 1962 I was working in my Dad's shop and it was played on Saturday Club on the Light Programme. So i went straight down the Golborne Road and bought it.

Ahhh Rapper's delight, spent several hours playing, pausing, rewinding and writing down the lyrics to this. Found out recently that I misheard some of them but hey, hard to change it now it's burned into the brain...I said a hip, hop, the hippie, the hippie to the hip hip hop and you don't stop......OK, I'll stop.

So off to W.H.Smiths in High Wycombe, and i came away with these 2........
And Declan, who many years later holds the mantle as the worst live act i've seen, and he ruined my childhood dreams by commiting murder to this tune of his......
This was bought for me when I was 4. My Mom maintains I bugged her 'til she bought it. So in the spirit of full disclosure, here it is. (warning: it's truly dreadful).

1979 and I was 9. There were a thousand numbered editions and my local music/video/tv repair shop in West Cork wouldn't order me one, so I missed out. Thankfully the thousand sold out and they issued more (un-numbered) and I grabbed one of them.
A couple of years later I bought another one in Tralee for a tenner. A week later I had a look at it and found out that it was not only one of the numbered ones, but Number 1. So I have the first thing U2 ever put on vinyl. It's in a bank vault now.
Can I borrow it to show a mate?

Made up later on once I discovered punk/new wave and still have the full collection of original singles complete with picture covers of the Clash and The Jam.
Double A side EP - U2 New Years Day & Two Hearts Beat as One - must’ve been 1980? Had been given ABBA Arrival at Xmas before but don’t think that counts. Chatting about this with mates the other day, bunking off school to spend day rummaging through second hand record stores. Suppose it’s great to have huge library of music at your fingertips but not quite the same....

My parents were not really into music: we had an 8 track cassette player in the lounge when I was a young kid. Me and my brother saved our pocket money and bought a record player and my first double purchase was these hard rock classics:-

John Kongos 'He's going to step on you again'. Looking back that was a cool record to buy for a 10 year old. I still have it albeit a bit scratched. A rock based tune bolstered by an African trance like rhythm was and still is quite unique, probably why I liked it and still do. Happy Mondays version years later renamed Step On was shite in comparison.
There aint half been some clever bastards.

"Back Street Luv" - Curved Air - purchased in some Record Shop near Ludgate Hill whilst working during Summer School Holidays at Abbey Life. Managed to see the luscious Sonja Kristina at LSE the same year. I think they had a bit of a hit with "Vivaldi" - quite possibly still in the loft -my loft not THE Loft.
