Nice to get an update note sure this comment fills me with much confidence though:

“This exposed hundreds and hundreds of drains below. The contractor who is in charge has been doing his job for 34 years and he can’t see any reason why they haven’t been working as they should, apart from the Mixto layer not allowing the surface water to drain through."

🙈

A bit too much of the word ‘should’ in that article for me. If the rumours are correct about how much is being spent the word ‘will’ should be there instead.

Apologies in advance for trashing the thread.

From previous comments about the drains I was under the impression the issue was further under the ground.

I was always under the impression that , historically, the pitch was laid on a significant amount of ash, (either inches or feet deep) and that this meant that despite the rainfall the pitch was no more substandard than any other professional pitch over the years.

Discounting the typical mudheaps that existed until the mid-eighties in football, I thought the problems at Rochdale really began when one particular groundsman incorrectly added some fertiliser that reacted with the existing sand and formed a concrete-like film that never really went away, and any subsequent remedial action did not manage to address that outcome.

Perhaps this time it will happen.

Have to say I was surprised by the amount of drainage that was already in place, however ineffective it eventually became due to outside influences, and even more impressed that the undulations will be addressed by laser-guided diggers. This level of investment deserves a successful outcome.

Please.

Those drains have certainly been well filled with our resources over recent years!

When they were building the M62 from Milnrow to Huddersfield, the surveyors thought someone was pouring water into their rain guages as there was so much water in them. When the engineers arrived back on site after they abandoned building for the winter, they found a large section of road they built in the summer had simply slipped down the hillside.
Everyone who isnt a local underestimates the weather around here. No one can simply look at the pitch and say there is sufficient drainage without an appreciation of how much rain falls and at what rate. I just hope recent history isnt about to be repeated.

Worth listening to from around 10:35.

Mention is made of all contractors being aware of the climate situation. Also: “We have a drainage system on this pitch currently that is not fit for purpose and the two pitches that have been laid in the last few years should not have been laid on top of the existing drains”

Getting a little concerned that the work that is taking place on the drains won't be what is actually required and will be a corner cutting cost saving case of make do and mend.

If you know Healey Dell the same thing happened with a little stone railway bridge on the Rochdale to Bacup line. The builders built it only to come in one morning to see the whole bridge had slipped about 15 to 20 feet down the hillside ! The had to build a second bridge right alongside the first bridge. They are both still there.

On a really pedantic note loads of people can't get " gauge " right and they also spell " guard " wrong as well. I used to be an engineer in a previous existence and if I had a ÂŁ for every time I've seen those two spelt incorrectly on a drawing I'd be rich. Why it can't be gage and gard is a mystery to me. English is a weird language.

Can we add people who can’t tell the difference between ‘as’ and ‘has’ and ‘a’ and ‘an’ too?

One of the culprits who does it on here has had a dummy spit though so the chances of it appearing may be slightly reduced.

What actually became of him?

Obviously his arrest and court date were known published but the charges and subsequent sentence never seemed to be. Sorry to be off the initial thread.

Loads of new plastic drains in the car park!!

Doesn’t look like they have done much for 2 weeks, been having a nosey through the fences now and again. New drains have been sat in the car park for a while so imagine they are to go in next. They were clearing through some of the mounds on the car park yesterday but nothing happening on the pitch. Maybe the rain delayed the works but would be nice to get an update from the club.

I was thinking the same - that not much progress seems to have been made since the last CEO update

I hope a problem hasn't been found which might interfere with the successful completion of the work, with all the expense that's involved plus the future viability of the surface in inclement weather. I don't see how the average amount of rain we've had should affect progress to such an extent, it's not exactly unexpected
