Had Momentum not blown it when Ed Miliband was crowned leader and not his brother then I honestly believe they would've won power and probably still be there.

That new Shadow Cabinet does not have a single election winner in it, presuming Yvette Cooper is left out today in the second set of announcements.


Bazza and Lazy, not really wanting to see this going round in circles, thats been the problem with the LP for too long, I accept that we have always had some very leftish members and MPs but our aim across the party should always be to help in every way possible those hardest hit, and make life fairer for all of our society, wether pauper or millionaire ( the honest ones)

Yes go after those wealthy crooks hard that infest the UK, making out they are some great benifit to all, but be smarter than they are, shut every loophole they use to avoid paying staff decent wages and avoid taxes like its a plague but they are not wealthy because they are stupid.

There will be other 'Cummins' in the background waiting to fill his role and the LP has to make sure they use the media outside of our Tory infested press to make sure fair points can be made.

Though we have some difference in how that can be achieved from the LP, our aims are within touching distance, by all means keep the leader and MP's earning their wages on their toes but lets at least give them a chance, Corbyn was, unfortunately he was not good enough and I think he had a fair chance, one thing every LP leader has to put up with is a very biased press, not quite reached the USA levels on our airwaves yet but it is something going back generations the LP has to try and overcome.

The real 'heroes' of our society are now finally being recognised but it has take this truly awful virus to get across to many just how important our NHS and every worker working still in whatever 'front line' service that is needed to try and keep what we have come to expect, so so tough and yet they are risking their lives for the benifit of all.

When we come out of Coronavirus Labour have got an opportunity but they’ll probably blow it.

If the Tories tell us it’s another bout of prolonged austerity and more tax rises to pay for this (we are paying more tax now than we’ve ever done) I don’t think the public will stand for it.

If a party stands for greater self sufficiency, invest heavily in its own manufacturing and stop importing cheap Chinese products (yes, that’s all of us) and treat that State as a pariah, it’ll transform the country and where elections will be won.

Not being a member of a political party should not be held against him for a period when he was head of the CPS. I would imagine when you get a job like that you have to renounce political affiliations so that you are seen as impartial - certainly Judges have to sever any political links when they are appointed.

I would say he is on the traditional soft left of the labour party but time will tell. It would be refreshing to have the government held to account by the opposition in a forensic manner. I am sure you will not agree but it felt like a load of incompetents playing at it these last few years.

We need to squash the idea that the Labour Party is full of experienced election winners that are being cruelly denied by Momentum and the 'Hard Left' or anyone else. Labour's votes have been on a steady decline in most of it's heartlands since 1997, with the exception of a blip in 2017. I don't think this has anything to do with any faction. It's more to do with our Parliamentary system, Media, and demographics of the country.

Your friend works for the Judiciary and SKS worked for the Civil Service. Very different roles and obligations. There was nothing to stop SKS being a Labour member while in the CPS.

I looked up the CPS code of conduct and political affiliation is discouraged - you need permission from a manager to engage in any political endeavour so very likely the contract for a director would require them to not be a member of a party. The civil service crosses over with but is a different case from the justice system where impartiality is key. You are keen to make a point though so I will leave it there.

The various tax increases proposed by Labour in 2017 and 2019 were both lower than anytime under Thatcher.

It's an interesting comparison. We do spend 7 percent of gdp on the NHS today, compared to 4 percent in the late 70 s. I guess the treatments are a lot more expensive nowadays, and with the ageing population demand is only heading one way regardless of coronavirus. It would be interesting to know how all the stealth taxes compare nowadays compared to then.
