It looked the same when I went past on Saturday so I hope it still is. He did fantastic work providing alternatives to penicillin ( or something like that).

Geniuses from Southampton on 21:40 - Mar 12 with 1076 views | Mushty | Southampton firm 'Gordon Brothers' were geniuses for their development of the first spinnaker sail, it was that good that portsea island named their most iconic structure after it. They must love us down there. "Thomas “Dutch” Diaper (1839-1902) was one of the most successful captains of the mid nineteenth century. Together with William Gordon, of Gordon Brothers, Southampton sail makers, he is credited with the development of the first spinnaker sail which made it’s debut on the NIOBE under “Dutch” Diaper’s command in June 1865" [Post edited 12 Mar 2020 21:53]

What you describe is based on application of military tactics combined with bravery. Beak fully deserved his decorations but nothing in his citations makes him a genius.
