Just Looked Up... on 19:06 - Mar 2 with 3213 views | SuddenLad | The important thing is that it's still in our own hands and as long as that is the case, we have very chance of doing what is necessary. Once we start to actually depend on results elsewhere, it's a lottery, no matter what we do.

Just Looked Up... on 19:12 - Mar 2 with 3170 views | richfoad32 | This time we haven't got the luxury of 2 or 3 games in hand on the teams around us though, we also had the feel good factor of the cup run to lift the general mood of the place. If we're to have any chance of escaping this time, the next two home games really are must win (and yes, I know they're not mathematically 'must win' in the truest sense, before the pedantic brigade jump on me).

What do you mean by its in pur own hands? We need other teams to lose at least two more games than we do to stay up according to my calculations. Last season we had games in hand and a reasonable goal difference.

Its in our own hands because our next 2 home games are 2 teams just above us who we can still catch. We also play Bristol Rovers and Gillingham. After not winning those games it is out of our own hands.

I hope you mean "If we don't win those games". Unless you know something we don't!

We're more than 3 points (including GD) away from them teams though and can only pick up 3 points in any game (obviously) If we beat both of those teams but they won the rest of their games (hypothetically) then we couldn't catch them regardless, therefore it isn't in our own hands we still need to better their results even after beating them.

They cant win the rest of their games - they play each other too! Gillingham v Oxford (next weekend) Gillingham v Bristol (the Tuesday we play Oxford) Walsall v Oxford Gillingham v Shrewsbury Shrewsbury v Walsall (final game) Its still in our own hands - but looking very unlikely unless we have some sort of freak revival of form, we need 16 points from 11 games. "We need 16 points from 11 games". Maybe. Everybody seems to have this notion that if we get to 50 points it's job done. It could quite easily require more. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Just Looked Up... on 09:10 - Mar 3 with 2267 views | Cedar_Room | Big difference to last season is our defence. We have a goal difference of -32. We have conceded 74 goals (average more than two a game) which is more than any other club across all 4 divisions. This is not just about picking up some form and grinding out some results. We are three quarters of the way through the season. This is no false position we are in. Our defence is atrocious and overall our squad of players is not good enough. The situation is vastly different to last season. We simply have to accept the inevitable now. We will be playing in League Two next season and we can have no arguments about that. The only question now is will be do a bury or an Oldham next season - in the past I’d have been confident we’d be right up there fighting for promotion straight away but now I’m not so sure.

The only teams from them permutations is Gillingham and Walsall and we're still relying on them to lose games. They dont play each other so theoretically still could win all those games. Therefore its not in our hands still.

Last time I looked Walsall,Oxford, Gillingham and Shrewsbury were all outside the relegation zone - and they play each other? So they cant all win!

There is a glimmer of hope starting with Shrewsbury on Saturday. We somehow need 5 wins quickly - no point looking too far ahead to the Oxford game (not sure when we won back to back home league games)? It is looking desperate but teams have turned desperate situations around before - even Dale back in the old 4th division. I wont give up hope until there is no hope.
