Enjoyable game amidst the storm, and one that had some genuinely quality passages of play from both sides, but also amateurish play at times too. Done had his best game by far since returning, and unsurprisingly it was as he was playing centrally up front. Inman, Henderson, Camps and McGahey all played well, but my MOM was McNulty.
I'd include in the amateurish category giving away two unnecessary free kicks on the edge of our box in the last few minutes, but overall we seemed to play with more confidence and looked very much a L1 side with everything to play for

A proper football match, played as well as possible by both teams given the conditions, and a welcome three points in the bag
The simple expedient of Done & Andrew swapping roles gave us some much-needed impetus and somehow we just looked improved all over the pitch. McGahey back to his best and my MoM, although no quibble with Andrew being named and everyone put in a shift. We had some defending to do at times and Done was pegged back in the second half, a couple of scrambles in the box fell our way for a change and I was back in "cheer" mode, both with our early winner (might've gone in anyway from Inman?) and at the final whistle
The angle of the camera on I-follow ( The one in the away end) was perfect to see Inman's effort. Looked as if it would have just gone wide so good job Done was there

Not good really......, fans offering only negative comments....... get behind the team when we win draw and lose ffs!!!!
Still waiting for the usual moaners to appear with their congratulations on a hard-fought victory. Perhaps they're at the charity event? We all await their contributions with interest...

Sorry but no. It was poor. When its not i'll say so. A win doesnt mask the shortcomings
Might help us understand where you're coming from if you listed the shortcomings?
We're not challenging for a place in the Champions League, clearly, and we've all been critical at times this season - with good reason - but today I thought we put a lot of things right
Bristol Rovers are a decent L1 outfit, and we beat them, deservedly

I wasn't impressed, it was a dull game, and we were lucky. I'm glad we won, but it didn't thrill me but I don't know anything about football

The shortcomings have been well-documented and discussed on here all week.
One thing fans asked for today was a battling performance that would go some way to removing the misery of Tuesday from about 9.15pm onwards.
We got that, with three points to boot.
Yes, it wasn't brilliant and there were spells of better play on Tuesday, but sometimes the result is more important than the performance, particularly in the way it might breed more confidence for next week.
Let's at least celebrate that for the weekend rather than conducting further post-mortems.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

There were some really good passages of play which looked to move the ball forwards and up the pitch quickly - something we all know is when we are at our best. We got it wide to overlapping players and the crosses were put across the box.
There were definite signs that we can see the route forward through the issues which, to be fair, were identified in the previous two games at times. The difference today was that shift in personnel and the impact it had.
The last three games have been far from perfect yet we are undefeated and have gained five points. Today saw more belief from the players, that alone was a significant improvement on the previous two games. If we carry on like this, maybe losing more than we win yet illustrating that we know what we are good at, then as supporters we should be happy. This could be a transitional season and there's nothing wrong with that.

Aye you are probably right, I just didn't come away feeling enthused! Still not going to Plymouth 😂

A desperately needed win is a desperately needed win! Maybe it will give the obviously nervous players that much needed boost to go on and play better. Certainly no need for any negative posts tonight.

I give you slow build up play, misplaced passes, poor goalkeeping. But it's not a negative, despite this we won. Hopefully a turning point, but I'm still to be entertained this season, aside from your football master classes obviously

It's a universal law, the better the result/ performance, the duller the messageboard!

Maybe take the horrendous weather conditions into consideration?

Fine effort from all our lot today in real blustery conditions.......just what we needed. It was good to see that there was real intent today....and although we were under pressure the effort did n't drop and we saw the game out,........just.
Decent referee too,oh and no one has mentioned the rendering of "Liquidator" to send us home happy and soaked to the skin!
More please Mr Hill.

Liquidator has always been associated with Chelsea hasn’t it? (And Bury obvs...)
It was never going to be an inspirational football them to death performance given the conditions and the lack of confidence throughout. The message following Tuesday would have been to defend better as a team and I think we managed that with them all playing a part.
For all the condemnations of the side, we remain a side capable of picking up points and despite the what might have been, 5 points from the past three games isn’t the worst return in the world. We are clearly not without our flaws but yesterday we did the job we were asked to do.

Best win of the season so far that for me. After the "cod and cobbler" collapses we got the monkey of "taking a lead and holding onto it" off our backs and banked a much needed 3 pts in the process.
First half of the first half was like watching us in the purple patch last year, but then the rain came in and the Gas started chucking the kitchen sink at us (the free kick we had in the final third towards the end of the game was very telling when they left 2 strikers on the 1/2 way line forcing us to leave three back to cover).
The work rate was terrific and even though we tired (that pitch must have been like a sponge even though it held up well), we also hung on.
Interesting formation adaptations with CC playing in front of the back 4 (to save his legs a bit?) and MJdub playing forward. Good to see Doney buzzing in and out of the back four like a wasp and bagging a confidence building goal ..... hopefully the first of many.
On the concerns side, we are still giving away too much possession too easily at times, gifting opponents opportunities. Our defending can also be very hairy with both JB and Jim having brainfart moments, but they both played well otherwise. Against better teams we will probably be punished more for such transgressions, but we weren't, we won and we have a bit of breathing space to fix it.
All in all a very enjoyable match in atrocious conditions for the most part and the only thing that matters is a home win. We need to make that a habit again and make teams dread coming to the COA again.

"Interesting formation adaptations with CC playing in front of the back 4 (to save his legs a bit?) and MJdub playing forward." I actually really like this decision, Campsy can deliver some excellent balls when not under pressure so the deep playmaker position works well for him. As for MJ, he seems really suited to that centre midfield position, pressing the opposition but also tracking back to help in defence, thought he had an excellent work rate considering the fact that he was knackered.

MJW is a bit like a turbo deisel - accelerates up to speed then covers the ground surprisingly quickly
2 matches now with the new Camps / Hendo positions seems to be working & Matty Done (as many on here predicted) looked so much more comfortable & effective playing centrally. Harrison was back on form, his pace helps snuff out danger. For me MJW is still struggling to work out the new forward midfield role but unsurprisingly (he's a defender by trade) was most effective facing the ball under the Rovers 2nd half onslaught. No question about giving their all, the whole team had to dig deep - Done & Inman/Williams were often defending behind their respective FBs for the last 15 mins. All in all I thought Rovers were the better side for much of the game which makes grinding out the 1-0 victory so important - the clean sheet probably does more for confidence than winning by the odd goal ( tho it was nail-biting stuff to watch!)
