Bitter taste about Sweetmore 11:20 - Apr 30 with 54449 viewsswiggy

Apparently Dave Sweetmore has been given his job back for next season despite the club announcing Eden Bearshaw as his replacement. What a sad day for the integrity of RAFC. How can you give someone a job and then give back word on the last day of the season, this leaves a very bitter taste on a day that could go down in the clubs history. Trust has been severely compromised and I'm sure this will have a negative affect on season ticket sales. I for one had been a certainty but am now thinking of not purchasing. Sad sad day for the club.

Credit to Eden for standing his ground and being so professional about it and keeping his mouth shut until the official word was given.

I think Sweetmore dropped a clanger by talking to Rochdale Online and self announcing that he was staying, that was probably the final nail in the proverbial coffin.

Glad it's sorted, all the best to Eden in the new role!

Sweetmore was entitled to say what he wanted, if he believed that to be the true position when he commented. It seems that the situation was far from clear, even to those persons involved.

They have now sorted it out to the satisfaction of them all. That's what matters.

Agree. We can all move on and get back to season tickets and the out of contract players signing up hopefully.

Good luck Eden. I'm a big fan of fans stepping up into roles at the club, it usually works well.

Also, I think the club deserves a little pat on the back. They dropped a bollock, listened to the fans, and then reversed the dropped bollock.

Not every club does that. Ceme-ender can tell us who for example.

Good news. The correct decision, thank the lord.

Fair play to all involved and I'm glad it was a mutual decision for all involved.

Although the whole issue had an element of "two bald men fighting over a comb", I doubt the outcome would have been the same but for this forum's keyboard warriors.

Very pleased for Eden and am very much looking forward to hearing him on matchdays. He's a good lad and he's earned this opportunity.

That being said, this thread turned very quickly, and unfortunately, inevitably into a witch hunt against Dave Sweetmore. The club are the ones who can be blamed for all this. They offered Dave his place back, in a dual role, not the other way round and now it's all Dave's fault? The club should have just said, "we've given the job to Eden, I'm really sorry Dave but there isn't a place for you now". That's whether they offered him a job back or he went asking for it. Same response was warranted. All so very very avoidable from minute one. Poor decision from the club that has put two people through a lot of added trouble and also tarnished the reputation of the club at the same time.

As for the people saying why all the fuss? It's only a tannoyman job, mostly from Bury fans, this is why our club is run well and yours is a complete f***ing joke. We give a toss when we feel the club has made a bad decision and will do what we can to put it right while you lot simply sit there and allow a odious little tw@ run your club into the ground from within and spend money you've not got. So kindly f*** off and mind your own business.

Also, in gaining Eden, we're losing a very valuable staff member of nearly 20 years and all people can do is slag him off. Thanks for the job you've done Dave, it's appreciated and I wish you all the very best.

On the same note, Eden, congratulations on getting your dream job and I can't wait for you to get started and hope you're doing it for years to come. Wish you all the luck in the world.

Now can we stop all this and get back to selling season tickets, analyzing kits, and wondering how the hell Donal McDermott has been offered a new deal?

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Well put chaff, contrary to what some may think on here I concur with your sentiments regarding both Dave and Eden. Good luck to Dave in his next project, and the same to Eden. The right decision has made and we move on.

Always been a big fan of Dave's sad to see him leave but not sure how a dual role would have worked.

Looking forward to Eden taking over and I'm sure he'll be great but also you can't please everyone so I'm also looking forward to the moans on here after his first match haha.

Also I hope we see Dave at the games and it'd be good press to see a picture of him putting his £50 deposit down. I think the club would be silly not to have him back putting on nights in the bar as well.

I'm glad this episode is over.

Yeah, we know, the bit about fans making a stand when they believe their club could improve to move a situation forward in a positive manner is one some really fail to grasp.

Positive manner!! Ha ha.
The top and bottom of the situation is you have had a witch hunt against a loyal employee of 17 years. Burn him alive!
Your club have probably thought, is it worth this shit for a half time announcer, give it the kid and be done with it. Then you try and dish abuse out to bury fans? Read through the posts.

Only thing I think needed now, as an outsider to the situation looking in, is for TalkingSutty to hold his hands up and apologise for the way he spoke about some of the loyal fans and posters of this board.

To speak the way he did, brandishing claims of cliques and gangs, not to mention the aggressive and abusive tone to his language, has left a cloud over things for me.

The club have, finally, done the right thing and now all that remains is for T.S to follow suit.

I understand the points you are making, that the privious tannoy man was leaving and the role was offered to new person so dale should stick to there offer. O.k . But a ten page thread with a fair amount of abuse for someone who worked at dale for a very long time, is that right in your eyes? and people not renewing there season tickets. Come on! It's laughable.and you lot are the all righteous ones.

Another one who hides behind a multitude of different usernames??

The messageboard has been used to back the Club and those who make the decisions into a corner.
Of course, they could have dealt with it better, that's pretty obvious, but I never thought I would see the day when our own fans actively went out of their way to a outside agency ( Rochdale online) to court the Club bad publicity. A line has been crossed there for me.

The Club have come forward with a statement and defused a situation of their own making, but the way some on here have hung them out to dry is disgraceful. Of course people will now re-coil in shock and horror and distance themselves from all of this , continue to ridicule anybody who makes a stand against them, but those within the Club will obviously see the full picture and they've been shafted by some of their own so called supporters on a public forum. Can you blame them if they now want to keep the fans at arms length? Erens mates will be happy now, they've had their pound of flesh, they should have kept their nose out of it.

There won't be an apology pal.

It doesn't look like the club have been backed into a corner.

From the press release: "but following a series of scheduled meetings, including today..."

It sounds like the club, Dave and Eden have been discussing this over the past few days and maybe weeks, and only today has a satisfactory conclusion been arrived at. The scheduled bit indicates this has been planned in advance (how long in advance is anyone's guess).

Reading these threads, it is clear people on both sides of the argument have been annoyed by this situation, but the club can't immediately release statements on every issue we get peeved about. Sometimes these things take time.

As has been posted by quite a few people now, the situation was resolved to the credit of various parties involved.

Please can it be left there as rehashing what others have said previously is going to achieve little but further bad feeling.
