We don’t break quickly enough when we beat the press.. It’s not they style of play as such but the speed at which we play. We have one capable CDM and when he’s injured we are screwed. Aribo and Smallbone are not the answer. Up front we is the same. Archer Diaz Paul are not premier league players.. In a nutshell our recruitment has been terrible. The players RM wanted are playing and doing well elsewhere. We ended up with last minute alternatives. I’m not sure that is Martins fault.. No manager can keep us up - we have the weakest squad in the league by some distance.. We may as well start the preparation for next season and at least try and reach 12 points for obvious reasons..
Both our goal and the Cameron Archer chance came because we didn’t just lump It under pressure.. We played .. Every time we lumped it we lost it and were immediately under pressure.. Our fans need to understand the football we play and why we do it. Risk and reward.. The reward on Saturday was the winning goal which started in our own penalty area..
To play Tall Paul from the start means we would need to start lumping the ball early and we are simply not going to do that and nor should we.. He is not good enough to change the way we play. Bringing him on as an emergency with 15/20 to go is ok but the problem is we are not utilising his strengths whatever they are because I’ve not seen too many… We scored 2 goals from crosses last home game so to say we don’t put the ball in the box is not accurate. There are a lot of cliches and misconceptions about the way we play.. It’s hardly any different to Pochetino and similar to most teams . I just don’t think we have the quality in the final 3rd. So do We abandon it and go full scale Allardyce? I personally don’t want to see that..
Nick to be fair he hasn’t had much abuse at games only on social Media. But I think the Leicester game it turned and toxicity is settling in. I think we have an entitled fan base with unrealistic expectations. 17th was always going to be a massive success and probably unachievable. Forest fans knew what they were and supported through thick and thin.. Back at the dell we were the same - not any more it seems..
He’s telling the media and the supporters that the players are behind him and it’s about time we got behind him too. Forest were abysmal in their first season back. There fans had a decision to make.. Ridicule and get on their backs or try and make the city ground a fortress.. They did the latter and stayed up due to some great home results.. Our pathetic support have made their mind up too including many who should Know a lot better.
We simply don’t have the fans to play this system. A basic grasp of football is required and sadly all We have is archaic dinasours who think David Moyes and his ilk are our saviour 🤷♂️
Jack Stephen’s played because THB has been the poorest of our three centre backs this season without question. Changing to a 4 one had to miss out and Jack has been better than THB. Personally I’d have dropped them both and played Bella Kotchap but that’s another argument.. In his short time on the pitch THB was responsible for the 3rd goal playing UTD onside. Given that you have written a whole article on how Stephen’s did the same for the 1st goal I’m surprised you didn’t mention it ? Maybe it’s becUse you are not balanced and have an agenda against the team captain?
I think it’s more likely Ryan’s demands for leaving Newcastle early that are holding up the deal. And they quite reasonably don’t feel they should pay him anythjng..
I imagine Fraser himself is trying to get money out of Newcastle for the final year of his contract. Maybe to compensate for the difference in wages. I think Fraser himself needs to think long and hard whether playing football at this stage of his carreer is more important than money. Ther is a reason why he is not particularly liked at AFCB and the Mags and it would appear his selfishness to put himself before the needs of the clubs and dare I say a bit of Greed has cost him dozens of games in his carreer and may cost him a few more.
It was a back 3 with wing backs and I agree that is the best way to accommodate all three of our excellent centre backs. We played that way because we had to stop Leeds strengths of counter attacking and for the 2nd game in a row against them they subbed off their ineffective forwards due to our game plan. Genius from RM and two fingers to those who casually throw around the “we haven’t got a plan B card”.. This was a 50/50 game and as I chatted to some Leeds fans on the way to the ground I said it would be down to which manager excelled on the day. With the ball there wasn’t much in it. Without it we were streets ahead miles better.. Probably the most drained I have ever felt at the end of a game.. Possibly the biggest game in our entire history and I felt that weight from start to finish.. What a day our second best day at Wembley by far 😇
When you think of the traditional best supported home clubs they have their own end. They don’t park themselves next to the away fans so they can hurl Abuse or have “banter”.. Can you imagine Liverpool supporters deserting the kop so they can hurl abuse at away fans every game.. Think Dortmund or the new Tottenham stadium.. This is a great move by the club - I fear our support is simply Too small time to take advantage…
It’s a difficult one. On the one hand there is the question of momentum and integrity to the league. On the other hand an injury to a key player would be disastrous.. Not sure which way I would go tbh
Lots of personal opinions and very few facts. Clearly suggesting that RM should be replaced , Jack Stephen’s is to blame for all our problems and if we hadn’t dropped Bernard Manning we would be 146 games unbeaten in all Competitions. Time for some reasonable adult thinking and planning for what is still a great opportunity to be promoted. Dividing the fan base is not going to help.
No verdict of this game is complete without mentioning Flyn Downes. The real man of the match. When Aribo tired and had to come off Downes was still Making vital tackles in the 96th minute. Our best player by far and heaven help us if he is injured for the play offs..
Bit disappointed with the 2nd half as we gave them far too many opportunities to fire free kicks and long throws onto our penalty spot. Like Swansea we did not finish the game with a 3rd goal and it was uncomfortable viewing. Stuart Armstrong's race was run after an hour after which he became their best player constantly losing the ball and misplacing passes. When Brooks came on I was sure it would be for Stuart and was amazed to see Fraser taken off instead. Might be a bit churlish but when we are so much on top we need the 3rd goal otherwise we will get punished one day as Plymouth so nearly did at St Marys..
I went to the cup Game at Millmoor when our GK SPERRING🤔 punched Mark Wright in the face coming for a cross Breaking his jaw.. Have I got that right memory fades as you get older🤔
One bad injury and the move and money is gone forever. That’s why they move so early.. Imagine if Shaw had suffered that broken leg at Southampton. He may never have made the big time. In theory I agree with Nick but in reality if you are out injured for a year do you want to be earning £10k a week or a £100k
