| News Comment | Willock completes Rangers' Rotherham revival - Report at 13:35:44
I turned to my sons after about eight minutes and said this is the worst start to a game that I can remember. I've been going since the mid'70s! Thankfully the finish was a lot better than the start : ) |
| News Comment | Everything but the goal - Report at 10:32:44
The report really captures my big takeaway from the game. It was great to feel the support for the team from beginning to end. I think our expectations have been lowered to the extent that a whole-hearted effort and an attempt to try and play some decent football is enough at the moment. The marked difference in player attitude was summed up for me by watching Dozzel sprinting for all he was worth to track back and break up an attack in the 92nd minute. He's not perfect, but to be balanced, Ainsworth has certainly done a great job in turning around the temperament of the team. I thought we were the better side overall, and I travelled home pretty happy with what I'd seen. |
| News Comment | Martin Allen's screamer sets up New Year's Eve party at The Dell - History at 22:49:04
That game in 88 is one I remember very well. Freezing cold day, an away end with more fencing than Colditz and a wonderful game. Was never a 4-1 game, which made it all the more enjoyable. Me and a mate came alongside the team bus on the way back to London, giving it large with scarves out the windows and celebrating a great awayday. |
| News Comment | Well, it is that time of year — Report at 20:58:21
I commented last week that the Preston performance had drained the last little bit of hope from me. But now I detect a small candle flickering in the darkness... Let's hope it takes more than a gentle draught to extinguish it. Anyone got a balaclava and unmarked van with a willingness to kidnap Gyokeres for the weekend? |
| News Comment | The point of it all - Preview at 09:43:02
Great preview. In amongst all of the depressive messages from Lee and Les this week, I have one ray of hope. There are teams that have been decisive, developed a plan, applied patience and succeeded over the past few years. It is possible. The pre-requisites in my previous sentence are, however, crucial! |
| News Comment | How do you like them? Report at 09:06:31
I am going to be honest, I pay for Patreon each month but rarely get a chance to listen in. The reason I keep paying? The sheer quality (and underpinning effort) that goes into these match reports and previews. I feel very lucky that Clive is an R. Win, lose or draw I am astonished at what you produce. I used to occasionally write match reports for the old QPRNet site, so have an idea quite how much hard work goes into watching, recording and writing this stuff. Thank you! A joyful read. |
| News Comment | Dude, where’s my football team? Report at 16:55:23
I don't really have much to say about the demise of the team. It's all laid out so articulately in the report. Strange that I feel sad, rather than angry about it. Perhaps I appreciate we have been over-performing and now it's reality punching us in the guts? My main thoughts relate to all of the timewasting, faking and manipulation of the rules. It is killing Championship football. When teams start messing about when 1-0 up in the 25th minute (Preston) it really has come to something! I had hoped that this insidious nonsense had got to a point where even the EFL or FA would have felt the need to do something about it. But, no. Instead we now get new permissions to stand in front of the ball to prevent free-kicks being taken and freedoms to boot the ball away when you feel like it. Previously bookable actions, now tolerated as 'part of the game'. It is making matches boring and frustrating. It kills entertainment and is contrary to the 'spirit of the game' (if such a thing exists even more). It's cheating and nothing more. The cherry on the cake for me is that we have to answer an FA charge for improper conduct for what looked like a fairly innocuous moan at a referee about a penalty decision. Whilst, in a previous match we watch a player limp off the pitch, then return to it and clutch his head so there can be a concussion substitution. A rule brought in to (rightly) protect player health is overtly abused on camera and the bloke and team get away scot-free. A game I loved for a long time is beginning to sicken me a bit. |
