Saints In Line For Real Madrid Winger
Monday, 6th Jul 2015 22:55

Saints could solve their wide man problems by taking a Real Madrid youngster on loan for the season according to reports coming out of Spain.

Saints along with Middlesbrough have enquired about taking Marco Asensio on loan, the 19 year old is highly rated at Real Madrid but they have not yet decided whether he is quite ready to make the breakthrough in their first team squad just yet.

The 19 year old was signed from Real Mallorca last season and immediately loaned back, now Real have to decide whether to do the same this coming season rather than have him stagnate on the fringes of their first team.

This could be to Saints benefit and add to their attacking options an exciting talent, yes it is on loan, but Saints supporters have to come to terms with the fact that on the continent loan deals are seen as a good way of plugging a gap and Ronald Koeman being a progressive manager is not afraid to use the system.

Middlesbrough are also linked and they will hope that their manger Aitor Karanka's links with Real Madrid may help them along with the fact that Ascension would probably get more game time at Boron than at Saints.

Hopefully we can fight off Borough or any other interested Championship teams. Maybe even put a clause in to ensure mass confusion at the end of the loan period.

Slightly worried about our growing foreign contingent, we need more home grown. Unless RK intends to use a few more from our academy?

Would the player get any game time here? In my view we should not sign players on loan unless we have a good chance of signing them permanently as per Ryan Bertrand. Otherwise we end up consolidating a good team only to see it wrecked again at season's end when the players go back to their clubs or like Alderweireld and Lovren use us as a showroom and springboard for their talent.

I agree also with Zambucco and worry about the future of our Academy youngsters. One hand saying we nurture our talent and provide opportunity for them to step up, the other saying in effect they are not good enough.

Probably no point looking for an option as we do not seem to understand how to make them work.

Zambucco - totally agree. It now seems automatic to look across the North Sea or English Channel. Not good long term for the club, the game or for the future of English football at all levels.
