I understand all the criticism as regards to no goal threat . Frey isn’t going to create too much himself but he isn’t that type of player . He is it seems a good penalty area finisher but not great as the chance Tuesday and at Plymouth showed . I would suggest the lack of goal threat lays elsewhere rather than solely at Freys feet . So with that in mind , the player ratings for Tuesday on this site have blown my mind . Frey the lowest with 4.7?? Lower than Paal. Take the chance created by Paal for Frey out of the equation although I understand it must play a part, but was Frey that bad ??? On the contrary, I thought we missed Frey’s presence immediately once he was substituted. |

You mean like ‘pivot’ and ‘double pivot’? I keep reading ‘Cruyffian’. ‘CDM’? “He’s a six….no he’s an eight “??? Hate it . What is any of it? I mean it’s a rhetorical question but god. All total FIFA boll*cks ….said the footballing dinosaur 🤣 |

“ they say don’t fall in love with loan players , but when they look like that, it is tricky” Made me literally laugh out loud on the tube . 🤣 |

Great report Clive . I stormed to bed with the right arseache shortly after the full time whistle like a big man child . Pathetic really , but I just couldn’t see us not getting anything at all . Still got the hump a bit |

Apologies, I Didn’t explain myself very well. I didn’t mean Saito was naive in those incidents . I mean, for example we don’t have an Ashley Barnes or Barry Bannon , off the top of my head , constantly in the refs ear . Constantly telling the ref what those players want him to hear . After the first challenge on Saito we should have been in the ref’s ear telling him to watch (we might have but I didn’t see us doing it ) out for what they were doing .After the second assault in the middle of the park we should have surrounded the ref . I can’t recall anyone even looking interested in talking to the referee . Might be wrong . But that’s just an example . Still not explaining totally what I mean . We play a lot of teams wiser and smarter with the dark arts than we are basically . The elbows on Lloyd and Saito in recent weeks were there for all to see , bit the peole that matter didn’t see them and went unpunished . |

Did say on another thread that ref had nothing to do with us losing . |

Very true . The last couple of weeks must have been very stressful too. Genuinely hope he’s ok |

Apologies , just mentioned this in another thread , but yes it was a little peculiar. Never seen him do that before either |

Was going to mention the 3 Saito incidents off the ball . The third one , was a nasty elbow very similar to what Lloyd got at Millwall. Once again right in the eyeline of the linesman ..nothing. I knew after that how this match was going to go . I think we have been victim to a lot of that this season but we have to be wiser to it all . We are very very naive and have been for a few seasons now . |

They have been but Blackburn being the outlier. Chairs deliveries in that game were very good |

Yes agree with a lot of that too. Just to clarify , I wasn’t suggesting Field should now try and change how he plays or indeed the coaching staff try and change him . He does a lot of things very well, reliable , always available and never lets you down , but going forward into the future, I think we will need someone more competent on the ball. Not sure that’s quite yet though . I do agree with you about Varane. He has shown enough to be a really good player at this level but he a still has some way to go and lot of it is experience and using his loaf. There was one moment last night around the 85 minute ( I’m guessing ) that he was our furthest man forward pressing on his own ! They played around him and run straight into the hole in midfield where he should have been . Crazy at that stage of the game, so he has a fair bit to learn about in game management etc. But as you say , I think he has the ability . His skill and run on the wing at Watford for example is another case in point . Hopefully he will learn and grow and improve in the next 6 months to a year , which I think he already has done . Just now needs to receive the ball and for it to be natural to bloody move forward!! [Post edited 12 Feb 17:28]

A lot to agree with with here . I like Sam Field a lot and at times he is very important to what we do so I’m not suggesting dropping him in the immediate future but he is painfully poor on the ball, looking like a fish out of water at times and hoping for someone , anyone to make contact so he can go over to get a free kick . If we have any ambition then we do need to slowly start finding replacements who can do Fields job and receive the ball on the turn and make crisp passes instead of panicking which is what Field does a lot of the time . Varane does one side of Fields game very well and Morgan does the other but neither are the finished article yet . Both a small step in the right direction though . If we continue moving in the right direction I do think Cifuentes will have to make a decision in the near future. None of the 3 you have mentioned have been what you would call ‘poor’ . Far from it actually but I understand your point . For me Jimmy is good enough to be in a team pushing for promotion . I thought he’s last few games at right centre back were pretty good too . Developed a weird twitch last though . That was a bit strange . Anyone else notice that ? 😄 [Post edited 12 Feb 12:42]

That’s what OldPedro is saying , another ref that seemed to want to keep the home fans happy . That includes a lot of refs at LR this season. But as I’ve said before there seems to be a refereeing directive this season to ‘make the game as easy as possible’ for yourself . That usually means keeping the home team happy. Ref did nothing majorly wrong but gave us very little. He ain’t the reason we lost though of course . I thought we did ok in general but the subs weakened us and I know players were tiring but Yang , for example was a big risk at 0-0. He did ok with the ball but he is so inexperienced at this level. We just look a little disjointed in the last 20 and yet we still had opportunities to go and win the game . Fuming we lost that especially to ‘him’ |

Oh god he we go again . Zzzz Are we really going to start the ‘resting players to finish 16th’ argument again? Let’s at least wait until the first week of January 2026 , for the love of god . Well done to Plymouth and Liverpool showed either a huge disrespect or didn’t care . Curtis Jones on the bench not used ??? Not sure he really gave it full beans or respect . Cheerio then Arnie. |
