The spine is there, the rest is not working
at 11:43 23 Sep 2024

Agree that our CBs and the current CF are not the problem and agree that defensively Field is part of a strong spine. However, offensively the problem is everywhere in front of the two CBs and behind the CF.

As said on another thread, no-one DEMANDS the ball and then progresses it. Sadly, aside from Yellow Card Colback, I am yet to see anyone fulfill that role in this team.

They are also frightened to take quick goal kicks as we are not in our structure. Guess what, guys; neither is the opposition so that might be a perfect idea!

And if Frey gets injured, we'll have the spine of an earth worm.

Each post has voting buttons - an up and a down either side of the number at the bottom of each post. You can click on them to "vote" for each post. I meant to up vote yours, accidentally hit the down one instead (fat fingers, small phone!).

Hope that clears it up!

The midfield hole
at 12:08 22 Sep 2024

Cutting through much of the tactical jargon on this thread, the one point from the OP that resonated with me is that no-one comes looking, demanding the ball. Yes, Paal has started to get in those positions, but he just stands there. If he does get passed to (rarely), his instinct is to keep possession by playing a safe ball back to the CBs. Field in the same, butter least he looks for it.

Varane is showing some signs of wanting the ball, but is no better as he looks back first. Colback is the only one that shows signs of wanting to progress.

...and in front of them, I see the same. No-one demands the ball as though they have been banned from doing something other than the "sacred game plan". Too formulaic, too predictable.

We need to do something different and better.

Something is not quite working at the moment. Could be the new boys bedding in could be that we don't have someone who can hold on to the ball (even if it is for too long according to the LFW forum). Take away the safe side to side YAWN inducing passing and we'll have THE worst %pass completion in the league a) because we are static in front of JCS and Cook when they have the ball and b) as someone else posted on this thread, weren't take risks until we are one down.

Hoping Marti finds a solution quick, because it looks to me that we have become predictable and without dynamic, adaptable players we'll needs plan B..

Anderson
at 11:40 22 Sep 2024

C'mon, matey, that is just peak social media. No-one is suggesting that we get the guillotine meme out here, they are just questioning how bad Anderson was yesterday (he really was btw) and how poor he has been this season (he has by the way).

Not suggesting that he gets run out of the club, not suggesting Marti gets sacked, just highlighting that maybe he should get dropped. We are so poor without Chair (still), but in his absence Saito - Dembele - Smyth surely?

Bad.

Passive. Only Saito wants to run at them. Anderson shot. Midfield non existent. Utterly awful ref who has lost his cards. They should have 4 yellows by now. Not one given. You watch; the first foul we commit it'll be a yellow or even a red.

Do not deserve to be level after that first half; will take that all day long. Smyth for Anderson, Dembele central Smyth giving them an actual threat to worry about.

Frey's finish was excellent though.

Marti on the Millwall game
at 19:17 20 Sep 2024

I think JCS will be on the bench, but hoping for Chaie to be with him is a little too much hope. Can't wait to see him and Dembele.

Would rather Saito than Lloyd, but suspect Marti will go with Alfie.

Anderson simply must improve as he has been pretty shocking so far this season, but I suspect he'll start. Unlike many on here I like the look of Madsen and would like to see him ahead of Lucas at the moment...

The inability to hold possession for any length of time or number if passes.

The inability to create any clear cut chances.

The inability to shackle their main (only?) creative outlet.

The two Danes.

The inability to break the press due to having an ineffective midfield.

The inability to make the ball stick up top - Weds did a job on Frey reminding us that we can be easy to defend against.

....but all that said, WE GOT A POINT AWAY FROMM HOME,so not a disaster.

We WERE awful though (just my opinion though...).

Let's hope that is the case and that the days of the innocuous calf strain leading to 12 weeks out is a thing of the past.

We are definitely weaker without JCS in this team maybe even more so without Steve Cook?

What do people actually think they should get as a punishment?

Big Fine - so bloody what; the people with the deep pockets criticised for "spending too much" won't actually give two hoots about a "big" fine smaller than the one metered out to QPR 6 or so years ago.

Relegation - REALLY? Why would that be fair on any of the lower leagues as that would be one less promotion spot up for grabs. In any case, you can GUARANTEE that they will compensate for the "loss" of City by letting one team in the Prem stay up and only relegate two. They won't put any embargo on City, so for one season only, THE most expensive team ever assembled will, most likely break all sorts or records.

European Ban? Well, if they are breaking the PL rules as opposed to the UEFA ones, that won't work.

Transfer Embargo? Well, they tried to impose one of those on Scum and it never stuck - loopholes galore meaning that they'll be able to buy all the kids with potential up.

Points deductions? Well, whoopee f-in-do; they'll miss out on the title for one season only.

Force them to get that team with Jamie Pollock out of retirement and play them for one season?

Mandate an Oasis gig at half time for a whole season?

Liquidate the club?

Anything else?

We all know that the rules are there to protect them all. Liverpool spent their way out of Div 2 all those years ago and Man U under Fergie spent far more than any other team, but these rules weren't in place then, so these "empires" have all been built on overspending.

It is just bowlocks...

Gotta love undeserved points. Especially there against that lot after last season when they deserved NOTHING over 90 mins yet managed to get three points somehow.

To a man we were rank awful out there today. Special call out to the Danes, who might well have just not been there. Clive said on his Patreon that Dembele was due a bad game; hopefully that is it. Frey went from a 9/10 to a 3/10 in consecutive games. Field and Colback showed why we needed dynamic midfielders like (allegedly) Madsen and Varane.

Nardi MoTM on a 7/10 from me; Dunne and Heverton 6/10s but that's it. Cook defended well but his distribution was rank. Paal wasn't as bad as he has been, but does someone want to talk me through how he missed the header before Windass' third big miss?

If that is what happens without JCS, time to worry. What are the odds we'll not hear why he and Morrison were not around today?

Exactly this.

They don't tell us transfer details, they won't let Clive interview Marti, they are unlikely to want to answer Qs about the stadium move, low water pressure, how close we are to P&S and whether Project Big Ben is working.

...and that is fine by me as long as they look after the club and keep progressing.

Sometimes too much information / openness. There is a balance...

I guess its something to do with cashflow, but you may have gathered I am no expert!

The other reason is that it would open things up to corruption. Buying club helps selling club by agreeing to cover part of the buy out by giving the incoming player a huge signing on fee; effectively a transfer fee... That sort of thing...

Come on, Nico - if anyone is going to say something DEFINITIVE on this thread, it has to be you, right?

I'm with Padula's in that my understanding is that whilst players can be paid off during the window and technically I guess they can be picked up by other clubs, BUT the Football League would not allow them to be registered by another club to play in any competition. So, whilst legally, they cannot stop any company from employing anyone who is eligible for that job, they CAN stop them playing in their compeition.

Is that right?

In other words, if Hayden was under contract to Newcastle when the window shuts and then gets released by mutual consent, then he can get offered a contract by a new club, but cannot be registered until the January Transfer Window.

Leave it, mate, walk away, walk away! If they don't want to get it, then let them not get it. I think that you were very, very clear.

No-one can claim to be a "free agent" if they were released outside of a transfer window.

Just make sure you explain to them last season was an anomaly. It's always cold in Blackburn and we always lose 2-0 to a last minute goal (or it always seems to be the case).

We'll never sell out there, so you'll be able to pick a spot away from the "lads"; you'll probably see a few people in a similar situation to say hello to!
