The reviled (by me) Arsenal tactic, now being widely copied, is turning corners into American Football. It makes it very difficult for goalkeepers to come and claim the cross, as they are essentially being fouled (you're not allowed to back into a player if you are nowhere near the ball). Referees are losing control. But they can't keep an eye on everything. As for all the shirt-pulling... Truth is if you don't have a player who can consistently hang the ball just under the bar (we don't) you are missing out. It was the most telling difference between the sides last night. |  | | |  |

Referees have been royally shafted by the latest "interpretation" of the rule here which is essentially you can do as you like as long as it's mutual and the referee has a bit of a word with you before the corner is taken. A farce, as it was always going to be. |  | | |

The "everyone standing on the goal line" one last night was new to me - but then I don't watch much Prem football.
Either Nardi got lucky earlier but it felt like that last corner was a concerted effort to get in his way.
Of course it also helps if corner takers can hit a decent dead ball with pace and depth (and not hit the first man every time...). And inswinging corners always far more dangerous than outswinging ones.
We train throughout the week apparently, so no reason why we can't adapt and improve our corner taking. |  |

Well we stumbled across the "stick it on Jimmy's head" gambit and that worked for a bit but of course teams are wise to that now - hence the WWE/heavy petting side show last night (reckon they could have pulled a gun on Jimmy and the ref would have been fine with it).
So er yeah maybe we need another plan - there was the one corner last night first half which Colback spaffed wide from the edge of the area, seemed to work well but don't know if planned or not!  | |

Said last night on the thread at half time they were the championship answer to Aresenal.
Think the powers to be have to visit this, because with all the holding, shirt pulling etc, one day it is going to explode, and have a royal punch up like ice hockey, or worse a serious injury.
We can change the goal kick rule so why not change the corner rule, perhaps limit the amount of players allowed in the six yard box, or make the obstruction of a keeper policed more. | | | |

Not a popular sentiment on here but in a way I have some regard for the refs and the lawmakers. Whatever they do, there are people who will cheat and use any stratagem to win a match.

There was one occasion where Jimmy was basically rugby-tackled and the ref did nothing. That was before the whole push/shove incident which ended up with Jimmy stuck in the net with 3 Cov players over him |  |
