So if we do not win on Saturday, does that mean we then cannot realistically survive anymore? (even though we could be within only 1 point of safety with a draw, or in the same position as before the match should we lose...with 5 games left)
If the answer is no - then it is not a ''must win''. It is very feasible that we do not win this match and still survive, it is not a must win.
A match of vital importance? yes. A must win? no.

Another loss or shyte performance will knock confidence even further, so a "must win"?
Yes, of course. We should be aiming to win every game. Who do we think we are thinking we can afford to lose games?

Everyone who has watched football for more than five minutes knows that the term "must win game" does not literally mean must win.
It refers to a game where the consequences of not winning on morale and momentum (lack of) are such that failure to win this game will be more acute than the statistical failure to get three points.
Pedants need not respond. We all know it's not literally a must win game.
So the question ''is this a must win?'' wasn't asking if we must win, it was ''is this an important game?''
If so, then why ask? Of course it is an important game. But it isn't a must win no matter how you look at it.
I am afraid pedant or not, I will destroy this awful meaningless and overused football saying just like ''legend'', ''last man!'' and ''stealing a living''.

Just to labour the point further, if it isn't a "must win", what's the point taking to the pitch?
Phrases like this can affect the mentality of the players. We don't have any time to think any differently as in the next couple of games, if we don't get results, our PL future may well be sealed, if not mathematically, in the players hearts and minds.

It isn't a must win. Not even close. Everybody can afford to lose games. If you don't think we will lose between now and the end of the season then you are nuts... or a genius and you should get down the bookies.
We WILL almost certainly lose before the end of the season that is just mathematical probability. This is probably why everyone goes into meltdown after a loss, far too much focus on individual matches.
We are 2 points behind the place we need to get to. There are 6 games left, we will lose, Hull will probably lose, we just need to get 2 more points than them at the end of it. We can lose the next 5 and still stay up.

To try and win.
Making the factual point that it is not a must win game, doesn't mean we should try and lose or don't think we will. It is the realisation that we can lose this game should the worst happen and we still will be within a shout of our goal, possibly (and fairly likely) that we will be no further away from safety than we are now, a 1 match swing.
Footballers aren't dogs where you shout a command or phrase and they are fully invested in it without thought. Tell them its a ''must win'', and they will still know that it isn't really.
Lose this game and will everybody give up? No, they will be claiming the next game is ''must win'' and the next and the next, until it finally actually is.... of course meaning that the ones before weren't (just like every ''must win'' game since Xmas hasn't been). May seem petty but it is a personal bug bear.

We must win it......
Aye be nice like innit, if it's not too much trouble.

Lets go out and play on the front foot, with Cork missing that can have a positive rather than negative effect provided Mr Clement selects a team with offensive players.

Pity we haven't got Charlie Adam, I think that he's really offensive.

Carry on Mr Pedantic
Nothing pedantic about it. We are 2 points behind with 6 (yes SIX) games left FFS.
Tomorrow is nothing like a must win game. It does a disservice to games such as THAT Hull game and needlessly compounds the sense of panic if we dont win - when in reality we can fail to win and still quite likely be in a better position than we find ourselves in now.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

The sweet sound of realisation.
No it's a sign of tedium you call it as you like, I'm calling it a must a win, to give us a bit of confidence, because after the last three away games it's something we desperately need

Call it what you want. I am just saying it clearly is nowhere near a must win.
It is a massive, massive game. One of the biggest of the season - but we all know if we draw this and get a point closer to safety then that would be more than acceptable with five to play. I don't think there is any need to put any unnecessary pressure on us when it isn't even close to being reality anyway.
We have a squad full of guys that lack the bottle for a dog fight, nothing Clement can do to install courage, Hull players will get stuck in and fight for every ball, that`s going to be the difference in the end.

Well let's hope Hull don't put any more pressure on us tomorrow then, because it could then be five behind with five to play
