Southampton In Negotiations With Club For Manager Release
Tuesday, 17th Dec 2024 11:46

According to media sources, Saints are in ongoing talks with the club of their top target to replace Russell Martin, but will this please the Southampton supporters who are desperate for a high profile appointment.

footballleagueworld.co.uk are claiming that Southampton are in contact with Sheffield Wednesday and are continuing negotiations regarding his release clause.

They state their source is German journalist Florian Plettenburg who posts on X as Plettigoal.

He had this to say

"Danny #Röhl is one of the leading candidates at Southampton to replace the recently dismissed Russell Martin ✔️

"Concrete talks with #SaintsFC are ongoing, but no formal negotiations have taken place yet.

"35y/o Röhl is currently under contract with Sheffield Wednesday, where he is performing exceptionally well. Recently, he was also a candidate for Leicester City to replace Steve Cooper."

The issue seems to be the amount of compensation paid to the Yorkshire club, Rohl signed and extension to his contract back in May and although at the time the actual term was not confirmed, it is believed to run to the summer of 2027.

Superb appointment if so. Look what he has done for Sheff Wednesday. He was thought by many as the brains behind the Hassenhuttl partnership (and look at how Hassenhuttl suffered, when Rohl left for Bayern). I for one, would love this man as a Saints manager.

Agree with SC; he was indeed the brains and it’s no surprise we tailed off after he left. This would be an excellent appointment for now and future, giving him time to make his mark and bring us back up if needs be. It is delusional to think we will get Potter or anyone of that ilk.

A good manager. From what I've seen and heard of him he's an improvement. Though cannot agree with the idea that he was the brains behind Ralph. We were better after sausage Rohl left and this myth needs to be debunked. Keep in mind though he did only have half a season with us.

2018/19 With Rohl: 39 Points

July, 2019: Rohl leaves

2019/20 season: 52 Points

2020/21 season: 43 Points

2 negative posts before it's anywhere near a done deal I pity whoever gets it with a fan base like ours
I would welcome Rohl He has a good track record as an assistant to Ralph,in the Bundesliga and at international level Niether he or anyone else has a chance to save us this year so let him build a squad and team ready for 25/26

I think this would be a decent appointment.
Inherited Sheffield Wednesday in a terrible state and has made them into a decent team. I work in Sheffield and their fans rate him.

Whoever we get fans need to be realistic about what can be achieved. The best thing that any manager could achieve this year is making us more competitive and more tactically flexible. They are not keeping us in the premier league - If they somehow manage to do that then name the stadium after them

Brilliant if true. My mind tells me results fell away when he left for Bayern Munich but reading above that isn’t the case. HOWEVER what did happen was that Ralf was never the same…if you remember he looked lost in the technical area - Rohl left a big hole for Ralf and I don’t think he ever filled it. Sitting behind the dugout it was really obvious.

So +1 Danny Rohl for me - who the heck else is going to come and mean something to fans. Just pay the compensation and get the deal done.

Ralph seems to be doing ok without him. I was hoping we employ a manager that knows how to keep us in the prem with so many games left to instead of them employing someone for next season in the championshiip , our board is haven’t a clue

I can’t believe we are looking at next season! 22 games left, 9 points from safety, history means absolutely nothing.. Sick of this defeatist attitude which has no place in any sporting team unless you are happy to accept failure. We can still bloody stay up! There are at least 3 teams who are worse than us based on our games against them. This isn’t over yet, there isn’t any sign of a fat lady.
Rohl is not the worst idea, he at least has shown he has some qualities with how he has turned Wednesday around. If Potter isn’t interested, I’d go for Rohl. I like how he comes across and that is actually a good indicator for success.
Hjulmand might be good but has no track record in club management to speak of.
