Mykola Kukharevych : International man of mystery ! A real Pro Star … Friday, 12th Apr 2024 08:00 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes Swansea City striker Mykola Kukharevych (correct spelling) has hardly been tested this season. Announced as injured when he wasn’t on various occasions, and despite making the bench for Wednesday nights game he didn’t get his customary one minute appearance. The fault for his non selection lays at the feet of the current head coach, and the other two previous incumbents - although Michael Duff played him more. Alan Sheehan for eleven minutes and Luke Williams for twenty seven. Unfortunately Luke comes across as evasive when questioned about the player, and that immediately creates suspicion. How a two million pound signing cannot be good enough for selection to at least display how bad he is, or how good, has to be this seasons major player mystery. However, the Vorontsov lighthouse has been flashing and it’s most certainly a distress signal. More on that as we progress this season. Here’s a thought, there have been numerous times he could have played for the Swans U21 side, despite being twenty two. Surely that would have benefitted him, and most certainly would prevent the constant questions ? If it’s a case of Mykola isn’t good enough then why hasn’t he been selected as a starter all season ? At least then the ‘paying’ public would see first hand. Yes, there have been two occasions where he has been injured, the last one a mystery when he was announced as injured two days before the Cardiff City home game. Then he is immediately off on international duty with the Ukrainian Olympic Squad and plays seventy minutes. The next three games which were awful for the Swans, Sheffield Wednesday away, QPR at home and then Middlesbrough he wasn’t even selected. Three games in which Swansea scored one goal and displayed the very worst of the mindset of a professional footballer, who believes he is sailing towards the end of the season. Continual missed opportunities and the downright inability to put the ball in the net still didn’t meet with Luke Williams approval to at least try Mykola. He couldn’t anyway, he wasn’t in those three squads. And he wasn’t injured. The head coach persisted with one goal in twenty Jerry Yates, who bar one goal against Ipswich this year last scored in the away fixture at Rotherham in mid September. If there has ever been a selection issue to be pondered on from this season it’s the non inclusion of Mykola and the inclusion of Jerry Yates. There has to be more to this. We have two other features regarding this issue over the campaign. It’s not as if this hasn’t been challenged by this website before. And it’s not just this website that has been asking questions. One just after his goal at Millwall - One more recently when the Swans were looking for goals. The Swans have four games left this season, Liam Cullen has done enough to earn a new contract, mind you there is an option. Jerry Yates has had ample opportunity to impress, and to be honest Jamal Lowe won’t be signing in the summer as his desired salary is way beyond the Swans financial capability. We have a Ukrainian U23 Olympic player in the squad, surely now it’s time to unleash him for longer than a minute ?
