Saints In Pursuit Of Gambian Defender Sunday, 23rd Aug 2020 09:27 If reports are to be believed Saints have made a bid for Omar Colley of Sampdoria, which would suggest that the revolving transfer door could well be in full motion in the next week or so. Various media sources have reported that Saints have made a £16 million bid for 6ft 3 central defender Omar Colley currently at Sampdoria as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to strengthen the centre of his defence. The arrival of Colley or indeed one of the other central defenders that have been linked with the club would surely signal the departure of Jannik Vestergaard and it could be that if Chelsea sign Ben Stillwell from Leicester City for £40 million, then the Foxes would use some of that money to purchase Vestergaard. Colley has been at Sampdoria for two seasons and prior to that he was with Genk in Belgium for a similar period. The media are saying Saints are vying with Burnley and Newcastle to sign Colley but are ahead in the race having put in a bid of £16 million. The only question mark over the accuracy of this, is the fact that Colley will turn 28 in October and from that viewpoint these days Saints rarely sign players over the age of 26, however sometimes they do break that mould.
