Dibbling on his way to Spurs ?
at 10:24 1 Feb 2025

Absolutely correct, only we won’t need “ top flight “ players for next season.

We will however need “ proven” players.

There is a difference.

What we don’t want is any more “ prospect “ players who may or may not come good in the 27/28 season.

For pity sake what is the matter with the doughnuts at Sports Republic ?

We finally get a prospect through the academy who is worth some decent money.

Cash in and use the money to buy some proven players to get us out of next season’s Championship is the sensible thing to do.No, Sports Republic think it a good idea to muddy the deal by taking on a Spurs reject.

Is there anything they can’t cock up ?

Yes, but they are absolutely brilliant at building Fanzones and turning ticket offices into pubs.

Come on Grumps keep up, you know it makes sense.

Spot on Pat, another triumph for our player recruitment team.

I can’t remember the exact date but didn’t they then decide it was a marvellous idea to
invest a further £10 million plus wages for Ross Stewart from Sunderland ?

A player who was carrying a long injury and in any event had never kicked a ball in top flight football.

You’ve got to sell a hell of a lot of insipid beer in Fanzone plastic glasses to make up for those examples of utter and complete ineptitude.

I perhaps would take some notice of Rupert if it weren’t suggested that the “ Party “ he represents is a Private Limited Company of which Farage is the majority shareholder.

Agree with a majority of your thoughts although most certainly not in regard to Bazunu.

If he had stayed fit I very much doubt that we would have won the playoffs.

He can play distribution football with his feet but regretfully hasn’t a clue when asked to keep the ball out of his net. He joined from Portsmouth and was a poor keeper even at their level.

It was, as you full well know Pat, mentioned as a comparison and not as you suggest an alternative solution.

There’s an old expression which goes something like “ To govern is to choose “ and that’s what the incoming government ( that you say you voted for ) have done.

They have chosen to increase employers N I contributions and I’m afraid that going forward, it’s simply something that you are going to have to accept.

Much like the rest of us your only option now is to wait four odd years and express your displeasure by voting for someone else. That’s how the system works my friend.

In the meantime, as I previously suggested to you, there is next to no chance of the sky falling in or the world coming to an end caused by Reeves making a very minor tax adjustment.

We will still be able to go to the pub, eat out and waste our money following the Saints.

Joiedevivre, the suggested amount to be raised over five years by the increase in employers N I is £25 billion ie £5 billion a year.

Total annual government income in 2024 was £1.1 trillion, therefore by any sensible metric what they are about to achieve is indeed a minor tax adjustment.

Out of interest and by way of a comparison. It’s suggested that raising the basic rate of Income Tax by 1p would have increased government annual revenue by £8 billion.

Reference emigration to Sunnier Climes. I suggest most people who take this route are retired and even if they remained in the UK wouldn’t pay N I and nor would their previous employers.

Buggalugs and Pat, stop and listen to yourselves:-

Because business owners are being asked to contribute more N I in April the following will now apply with the sky falling in :-

1. Tax credits have become “ drivel “.

2. The minimum wage is too high.

3. It’s impossible to successfully run a business with the inflation rate currently at 2.7% but possible when it was 11.7%.

4. The Employment Rights Bill will be a disaster.

5. No one will be able to go to a pub or restaurant because there won’t be any.

6. Everyone will be forced to leave the country.

Get over yourselves guys, the world isn’t about to end because of the election of a new government and a relatively minor adjustment in tax policy.

So Pat:-

1) No comment on my suggestion that employers stop relying on recent governments of all political persuasions past and present to subsidise their employees wages ? Surely you can see if they paid proper wages in the first place then it would not be necessary for governments to raise taxes from us all to cover the difference?

2) Of course the minimum wage is higher than it was when first introduced. Given the increase in inflation generally since its introduction, it’s hardly likely to have stayed the same or decreased is it?

3) “April will bring a shit storm of high inflation and unemployment”. No it won’t, both may or may not increase marginally and certainly won’t be anywhere near the 11.7 % inflation under the last government or the 3 million odd unemployed obtained not that many years ago historically.

Pat, perhaps if employers paid decent wages in the first place instead of expecting successive governments to subsidise their employees wages through tax credits there wouldn’t be what you regard as a problem.

A similar argument to yours regarding supposed massive job losses was put forward by employers years ago when the minimum wage was proposed and subsequently introduced. Outcome ? there were no massive job losses.

Has any other club ever had a worse Premiership record than Saints?
at 17:53 26 Jan 2025

Yesterday the Southampton Echo report of yet another Saints defeat stated that the we have won just one game out of the last thirty six Premiership attempts, spread over two seasons.

Assuming their statistics to be correct I wonder if there has ever been a Premiership team worse than ourselves ?

Given that it’s looking extremely unlikely that we will even equal Derby’s pathetic eleven points relegation total it would indeed be a comfort to learn that at some point in time there was actually a more embarrassing team than us.

Newcastle Game Matchday Thread
at 09:57 26 Jan 2025

When it comes to V A R you are looking at the problem from the point of view of the spectator that attends a match.

It’s now purely a question of what the broadcasters who finance the whole corrupt Premiership want. They want V A R because it adds to the excitement of their armchair subscribers world wide.

The Broadcasters have no interest whatsoever in those who attend matches or wether a referee’s decision is correct or not.

Given that the Premiership and the F A have sold their soul to the highest bidder V A R is here to stay.

As in much of modern day life, the expression “ follow the money “ is the answer here.

Stop worrying saint22 because Nick has told us it’s not necessary.

Everything is fine on planet Sports Republic.

We are top of the league, win every home game and regularly sell players we bought for peanuts at a profit of multi £millions.

And please don’t forget we now have fan zones and our own pub.

The future’s bright, the future is Sports Republic.

Honestly Nick is there nothing that you won’t say to provide cover for Sports Republic’s individuals ?

I’m totally disinterested in which one of the incompetents has responsibilities for this that or the other.

Two relegations in three seasons and one win ( a lucky one at that against Everton ) this season speaks volumes as to their collective uselessness.

Not difficult to see why England haven’t won a major tournament for 59 years is it ?

England managers never play in form flair players.

Perhaps the new guy will be different but somehow I doubt it.
