at 13:39 22 Aug 2014

Got to admit to having a tear in my eye watching the trailer, its my club and I'm so proud to have been part of its history over the last 48 years.
You may change your car, change your house, change your job and even change your wife……..but you never change your football club. STID

Oh by the way, you NEVER change your club colours, we'll always be white.

I was not suggesting we signed Valdes, I was challenged to suggest other targets that were available. My coaching has got me far enough thanks, improving is part of coaching however at 29 years of age and playing for most of his life you would have thought he might have grasped the basics by now. At this stage of any players career its about fine tuning not teaching him how to form a "W" with your hands behind the ball in order to catch it. Lets just agree to differ, you may rate this guy: i don't lets see who's correct over the course of a season. If, as I suggest he makes numerous mistakes during the year, so be it. However, if he proves to be the next Manuel Neuer I will be delighted. And grown up enough to come on here and admit it. This post has now got to the stage where its a case of suck it and see.

Insufficient intelligence - that coming from you is absolutely hysterical!
Using the nickname commonly used by Gooners and is unanimously accepted by those who've witnessed his attempts at catching crosses does not make anyone sound pathetic. Tho only pathetic ones on this board are those who are so one-eyed that they genuinely believe any one who signs for the Swans will automatically become a better player. The retort to Lisa regarding her pro-licence was directed at her comments regarding my inability to recognise a good player, I assumed she had coaching qualifications as she seems so sure that our new custodian is a wonderful acquisition. My age and intelligence are of no significance however, for the record I am 52 years old, have countless qualifications both academic and sports related and have experience in coaching, and soccer administration. I have also been a season ticket holder since 1966/67 season and missed only a handful of home matches during those 48 seasons. Oh, and I have a goalkeeper coaching qualification.
I also have an opinion and do not worry myself if they differ to other posters. That is what makes this sport so wonderful, everyone has an opinion and in a democracy we are allowed to voice them. You attempt to insult me by questioning my age, yet are critical when I use "poor humour and insults". Pot, kettle, black spring to mind.

Fortunately I'm surrounded by people who are not afraid to enter into debate with someone who's opinion differs with theirs. They are grown ups who do not use a poor attempt at humour or insults because they have insufficient intelligence to continue with an adult conversation. We've had numerous differences of opinions over the years, including at The Vetch, as to the merits of players. Despite opinions being poles apart not one of us has ever tried one of your pathetic put downs to end a discussion.

Look, without being argumentative, what makes you think a 29 year old goalkeeper will suddenly become competent at catching crosses and commanding his area just because he's left a top 4 club and joined the Swans. With the greatest respect, he had seven seasons at Arsenal to improve and add the necessary qualities to his game to make him into a first choice regular. He didn't. He only played when the Arsenal first choice keeper was injured/suspended or when playing in a second string team in lesser domestic competitions. Once the first choice keeper was available Fabianski was back on the bench. As I've already stated IF he proves me wrong I will be the first to come on here and admit it, however, I can only judge players on their past performances and abilities. If Swans supporters are happy to entrust the goalkeeping duties to a keeper who has his fair share of errors and cock-ups, fine. I just think we should expect a bit more.

Run along? Why would I want to do that, looks like I'm beginning to convince you that Fabianski isn't good enough. Why else would you be so dismissive?

Just seen that Vorm has agreed personal terms with Spurs, so then looks like our number one is going to Fabianski. Gonna be a long hard season.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen would have been worth a try, Victor Valdes is looking for a new club and Courtois of Chelsea could have been a decent season long loan. As well as McCarthy of Reading or Ochoa who had a decent world cup. Every player has his price and we cannot speculate who would have cost what without the club trying a bid.

How can you accuse me of "blindly writing him off" when I have clearly stated that Ive seen him play for Arsenal on numerous occasions. My opinion is based on past performances and I don't understand how people believe that signing for the Swans is going to improve a players ability. I would concede that the argument that form is temporary whilst class is permanent could apply to certain individuals, however, Fabianski has played 89 matches in all competitions over seven seasons at the Gunners. The fact that he has never nailed down a starting place for more than a handful of matches surely points to a lack of class not a temporary loss of form.

So you are a supporter then because you blindly accept every signing as being better than the player he is to replace. I'm not a supporter then because I question the quality of signings. Priceless!

I don't have to justify my ability to spot talent to you my friend. As you rate this guy so highly you must hold a pro-licence or be scouting for a club at the very least. Who mentioned a goal keeper that can't get in a Premier league team not being good enough for us? Earlier in this topic three names were mentioned as examples of goal keepers that we could have considered.
From your comment about Arsenals second choice keeper being good enough for the Swans, surely you would set your sights higher than reserve team football from which to recruit. Or perhaps it was the fact that he was free that makes him such a wonderful acquisition. I will try and make this simple for you, I don't rate Fabianski having seen him play numerous matches for Arsenal. I think that the Swans could have done far better than this guy, even though we might have had to pay for someone. Thats my opinion! now its down to HIM to prove me wrong. If you want to start a debate on how to spot a good footballer or a second rate player, start by slagging off the Arsenal manager and coaches who decided that Szczesny was a much better option than Fabianski. This opinion based on 32 Premier League appearances over seven years.

at 21:54 20 Jul 2014

To be honest £10m for Ben is a very poor return. Even though Shaw went for three times as much I don't think we could have expected that of Ben. However, he is an experienced Premier League defender with European games under his belt. He has three Premiership goals to his name and is in double figures for Welsh caps. Many of these qualities cannot be attributed to Shaw. I think a fee of around £18m would have been right for such a talented youngster who is also British.
I will be gutted if Vorm goes though as my opinion of his replacement is clear on many other posts on this message board. We will have lost 50% of our defence from the last couple of seasons and the replacements, in my opinion, are inferior.
Gylfi turned his back on this club once before for the lure of the money at Spurs, why now are we welcoming him with open arms when he was really a flop in London. If, as rumoured, there is £5m cash as well I hope that Monk uses it solely for strengthening the defence as Tiendalli and Richards are very poor cover for our full backs.

Strong at long passing, thats going to be a massive positive for a team that plays out from the back. If you are no good at saving long shots and have poor reflexes you really shouldn't be playing in goals. Its MY opinion guys!
Yes he has signed for my team but that does not automatically make him one of my favoured players. If, as a supporter, you must love anyone who wears the shirt there would be no need for message boards. When I first saw Bony last season I thought he looked slow, cumbersome and his first touch was awful, but, credit to him he worked hard and proved to be a decent striker. I hope this keeper works out ok, but I'm sceptical. He hasn't been top drawer otherwise he would have been Arsenals first choice. Just accept that other people aren't one eyed Jacks. "He's a Jack now so he must be brilliant and you must back him" is just so juvenile. Like I said, prove me wrong with clean sheets and I will happily state on here that I was wrong. Anyone out there willing to admit they were wrong if he flops?

My opinion of Fabianski has been arrived at by watching his performances, do you believe that the Swans shirt will automatically make him a good keeper? If that was the case everyone we sign would become another Messi or Ronaldo. The reality of the situation is that every player, immaterial of their club, will be judged on past performances/statistics etc. If Fabianski turns out to be a decent keeper and keeps numerous clean sheets next season, I will be the first to hold up my hands and say I was wrong. However, on past performances my opinion is that he will not prove to be one of the better keepers in the history of our club.
The nickname Flappyhandski was first used by Arsenal supporters due to his tendency to flap at crosses, even one of the player stats web sites has him down as very weak at crosses. I find it amusing that the continued use of it seems to offend posters, while nicknames for other players is widely accepted.

As already stated, been a supporter for 48 years and am entitled to my opinion. A forum is a place where people are allowed to make a statement and encourage discussion. A fan supports the club not just individual players and believe me I've seen some really poor players wearing the shirt since I began attending matches in the 1966/67 season. You obviously find it difficult to differentiate between people who have a genuine concern over the success (or lack of it) next season with those who want to slag off individuals on a personal level. I do not have any personal grievance with Fabianski as a person, Ive never met him and I'm sure he is a nice young man. I am only dubious of his ability to represent the club to a level that is required. Now if you think that makes me less of a fan than you, thats your problem, not mine. I will be at every home game this coming season as well as a few away matches including some of the friendly fixtures.
I am not prepared to agree with everyone else's opinion of players and their abilities just to be seen as "a true supporter." Going to Rochdale on a cold, dark wet Tuesday evening to watch us lose 2-0 makes us true supporters, having been to 83 football league grounds following the Swans over the years means I've earned my tag as a true supporter. Oh, by the way, I still don't rate Fabianski!

I didn't say that Marshall was the one we should have gone with, I used him as en example of keepers who would fall within our budget. Personally I would have preferred McCarthy from Reading.
