Refilling the trough

He posted that when he's fully aware that quite a few on here would like a vote on abolishing the Senedd.

Personally, at a time when Welsh essential services are short of money, short of resources and failing by most measures, giving politicians who haven't even got full powers over Wales such a pay packet seems crazy to me. You wouldn't give a regional manager a bigger pay packet than the CEO.

Do you really think that the leader of a country of less than 3.5 million in a devolved government that hasn't even got full powers deserves more money than the PM of the entire UK?

The seond bit, completely irrelevant and not mentioned by the OP

The third bit, whataboutery.

Now the last bit, I remember independent bodies recommending pay rises before, when Westminster got 11% and the Senedd 18% the politicians said they couldn't turn it down yet when independent bodies suggested pay rises for the police, NHS and teachers the governments said they couldn't afford it and made reduced offers. It's one rule for the politico's and a different rule for the rest of us.

It's a simple question, Kilky, do you think the Welsh FM deserves a bigger pay packet than the UKPM?

Trump

he's starting to behave like Putin, sees another country that has something he wants, justifies what he says, what's next?

The EU has said they won't allow it to happen so that's NATO gone for a start. That meams Europe and the USA become alienated, just what Putin wants.

If Trump does the unthinkable and takes Greenland by force he'll probably have started something very hard to stop, there'll be trade wars, closing of borders to USA citizens, tit for tat decisions...

Trump has to to take a step back and smell the coffee.

Oldham grooming gangs: Government blocks national inquiry
at 18:45 8 Jan 2025

The people at the top all protect each other, it's all corrupt. Police in some areas were told what was happening, reports were made, parents voiced concerns and still nothing was done.

It's not a local thing and it needs a national answer but the people at the top are reluctant to be called racists.

The scales have well and truly tilted in the wrong direction, Question is will Reeves sit tight and hope things improve or will they take "emergency" measures to try and rebalance the scales.

When have I EVER said the UK is the best in the world? Something else to add to the long list of things you fail to comprehend but if I haven't said something, then II haven't said it and so claiming I believe it or eill be amazed it's not true is just total BS.

2+2...get your head around that first and when you have the correct answer (hint, it's not 5) we can try again.

What if the people who make these decisions have decided not to offer a deal?

The other players you mentioned, needing them to step up and do well is still a long way from them being capable of doing so. There could be a good reason why they aren't getting first team matches?

We don't just need players with potential, we need players to make the grade, to fulfill their potential. That's th hard part, as you keep reminding us with Gyorkeres, some good players get released and some donkeys get contracts because (just like in every walk of life) people are fallible and make mistakes.

Many, many years back the Swans released a player called Georgio Chinaglia, does anybody know what happened to him? John Charles was down the Vetch, with Mel and a few other notables of that era and we never offered him a contract, at 17 Leeds spotted him gave him a trial and the rest is history. Mistakes happen. Those two are really big mistakes though...

Is Peart Harris available to buy,?
at 15:48 8 Jan 2025

Stats can be misleading. Stats driven buys have another statistical twist, their stats look good but they don't always succeed.

MPH has looked largely underwhelming. As said above, his stats make him look comparable to Franco yet Franco is a much better player, much more important to us.

I'm not saying MPH definitely won't turn into a decent player, Brentford have been good at finding attacking players, but he could be that slow burner and lets face it, we cannot afford to sign too many slow burners when our squad is in almost desperate need of 3 or 4 good players right now.
Slow burners mostly belong in the U21's, when the make it to the first team it's because they are ready or blooming nearly ready.

Cullen, as it turns out, wasn't a slow burner, he's not a great striker and the positional change has been his making.
Maybe playing MPH as a CAM would help, but that's Cullens place now.

For me, MPH isn't what we need right now, not with Cullens breakthrough. There are more important positions to strengthen.

As far as I'm concerned all 3 can be moved on. Allen has become a passenger, Naughton, age has caught up and Pederson...

Between the 3 of them there's enough wages for 4 or 5 tidy signings.

I think it'll tale longer than 2 terms, such is the mess the tories left us in.

We spend billions just on the interest on the debt. That's why not increasing the debt (or the interest ) is important now.

Personally, I can afford to pay a bit more in tax. Obviously I can't speak for others and none of us like paying tax. The rax system needs anoher overhaul, they need to do away with the loopholes the rich benefit from, they need to ensure corporation tax is paid in the UK on profits earned in this country. These tax havens, thenROI, Luxembourg, I've slated them in the past but then I saw this,

England is considered the epicenter of the world's tax haven systems. Foundations and trusts are typical tax haven vehicles foreigners use to offer a protective tax-free or tax-reduced wrapper around assets. The country is particularly popular with foreign billionaires who benefit from a lack of income or capital gains taxes on investments held outside of the country.
2

London is Europe's tax haven capital for non-British individuals. The city's well-established banking systems are trusted and used by foreigners from nearly every country in the world. Small and large companies benefited from a relatively low 19% corporate tax up to 2022. That rate increases to 25% in 2023.
3

British territories are also popular tax havens, including the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands. Neither overseas territory charges corporate taxes or capital gains taxes. Individuals aren't taxed in the British Virgin Islands unless they are employed in the territory while the Cayman Islands don't charge any individual income taxes. Neither territory has a withholding tax.

So Westminster needs to do something about foundations and trusts that hides billions in assets away from the tax man. Or would that drive rich people away?

Well it seems as if there is more interest in learning Spanish or German or other European languages.

You spout off mate, with all the blather we are guilty of on here (myself included) it'll do us good sometimes to have an opinion from someone who actually has to work inside the system.

It's a sign of the times I was in school too. I had to do Latin and when that stopped they considered I was too behind so no point in doing Welsh.

I don't want the language to die but if there is enough interest it will survive without a leg up.

Schools in Wales are badly in need of funding, we struggle to recruit teachers, building are falling apart, isn't that more worthy of a leg up and that's before we egt to the NHS and saving peoples lives.

Well you're right, mostly. It will take a long time to put right. The big question is, can this Labour government do it, are they up to it?

Reeves may be borrowing less but with the interest on the debt going up, are we actually paying more and is that the direct result of her budget?

People rightly slated Truss but isn't Reeves costing the country just as much money over the long term, possibly even more.

I'm coming to think we should just do an Iceland, say to hell with it and default. I'm fed up of rising taxes for no gain, fed up of the rich getting richer of our backs.

The Romans built longer roads in more difficult conditions some of which are still in use today ( well I think part of the Via Appia is anyway) and will this road still be there in 2000 years?

Anything government organised in this country (UK or devolved) is doomed to be badly designed, badly implemented and quite possibly already out of date when it's finished.
