Illy did just fine. Maybe not reaching his highest standards of recent times but he's still one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Last night they were doubling up on him every time, sometimes with a third nearby as a backup. Saito didn't get that treatment so was able to be more of an impact. We should have taken better advantage of Illy pulling defenders towards him than we did.
At the end of November, Blackburn were in 6th place with 28 points and we were 23rd with 14. 10 matches later they are now in 5th with 42 points and we are 12th with 35.
Somehow this squad has halved the points gap. If the points trajectory continues then yes it is a promotion squad.
It’s been done by others before but never by us and I can’t imagine it happening but it’s more fun to consider it than continue worrying about being dead and buried.
As you say though, we will now fail to win any of the next 6 matches.
Was pretty pointless with fog like that but from the little I could see we played ok for periods but we gave the ball away casually so many times and always in bad areas leaving Walsh exposed. I don’t think he did much more than pick the ball out of his net but he wasn’t left much chance.
