24th Feb - I am happy to stick with Big Jim (for now) and see how the next few weeks play out.
Lose on Saturday with NO shots that the keeper has to save and I might change my mind on Sunday 02nd March.
I am sure Big Jim will know its a results business.. More than anything clear the minds of the players.. reset and go on Saturday knowing its win or bust.
Two wins in the next 6 days puts us back on the rails at least.
Score 2+ goals a game and have a strong no nonsense pairing at centre half.
Pace on the wings helps..
Plus a direction of travel that is predominately forward... and positive.
Get the ball quickly into channels with willing runners who can cross a ball into forwards who are hungry to pop the ball into the net.
Stockport / Wrexham and Chesterfield all had a we will outscore you mentality and it showed on the pitch and it showed in the league table after 46 games.
Ripping the seat from the toilet in the first instance causing damage that now the club will have to pay to repair.
Unless the person woke up this morning and in embarrassment has returned to the Shay to apologise and refit / clear up his damage. Thing is they would not have the guts or the realisation what they did to go and do this.
I saw one insipid soft header (Mitchell) on target second half straight into the keepers arms.
No other keeper save. It was either..
1. Shots blazed over the bar (by impressive distance)
Or
2. Shots hitting defenders legs.
Part of the problem is we are tortoise like in transition allowing opponents to easily get back and defend deep in numbers.
Halifax keeper had not one meaningful save to make all night. Do the players reflect and actually work on hitting the ball with purpose between the goals on target as yet another game slips by.
Jim is going nowhere and that’s a worry after the borefest of yesterday.
To cautious and sooooo slow in the build up from the back. Yesterday both East and Gilmour holding hands close to the edge of our own box.
Waller and Hogan (take your pick) both guilty of the ultra safe short ball when TAR was 35 yards further advanced, in space and would have been a more positive ball forward.
When we do some nice stuff we don’t shoot.
When we fizz the ball across the goal line it’s aimless as we never have a forward anticipating the tap in opportunity.
Give the players 3 days off I say - reconvene Wednesday morning for some soul searching. Train hard Weds and Thursday and travel south On Friday. We need to freshen this up and quickly as much more will test the patience of the hardiest of Dale fan. Bloody awful yesterday. Jim and the players all need to step up and offer so much more.
Dale not much better. If they can up the tempo and be more direct (and shoot more!!) we should still win this easy enough. Dale have been slow ponderous and too negative first half..
Lacking in a leader on the pitch it’s a terrible watch so far.
I actually thought we should have beaten Forest Green home and away.
Common theme is that we out footballed Forest Green over 4 halves of football and didnt score one goal. One for the analyst that one.
180 minutes could easily have had 6 points and our overall haul was 1 point and we scored NO goals.
Watch the Oldham highlights immediately followed by Forest Green home and away. Thats 270 minutes of nice and pretty but ineffective football.
Shooting is wasteful (High or wide or both) or powder puff. Simply put we just don't look hungry enough when we get on the bigger stage and our finishing reflects that.
The drill the forwards do in the warm up every pre-match is a waste of time if they will not shoot on target when they get a chance in the actual match.
Just watched the highlights and its shows clearly that we are not ruthless enough.
Mitchell 4th minute pulls the ball wide off target.
Good work by Dale a few mins later, ball fizzed across goal, nobody on hand to stub a toe on it.
The great run from Okeke.. skied over.
More good work in the half but no shots that actually got passed any defenders legs. Really committed defending admittedly.
Second half the only shot on target that the keeper had to "save" was Allarakhia and that was from an acute angle, TBF Tarryn did well on another day maybe it goes in.
Mitchell header flys wide again not on target.
Terrible night at the office - Cant wait to see how the players respond on Saturday now but more errant wasteful shooting will not win us many football games.
Too slow in the build up and shots not off quickly enough, that must be the reason so many efforts last night hit the legs of defenders.
Mitchell and Rodney could do worse than watch the 90 minutes together and honestly assess there own performances v Fondop who was excellent for Oldham.
Dale started great and Mitchell has a glorious chance and doesn't even hit the target? Then lots of neat creating passing / running off the ball for the opening 7 minutes (SEVEN) after that it was 83 minutes or so of Oldham being better than Dale in the running / shooting / battling / tackling / defending aspects of the game.
Big Jim got it badly wrong, the players just seemed to stop believing and that's unacceptable.
Less said about the subs and the timing of the subs the better. Buyabu looked like a rabbit in headlights on the left hand side. The whole side looked miles off last night.. they need to come out of the traps right from the off Saturday thank goodness we get a chance in 4 days to put that horror show behind us.
