Let's hope he is picked tonight and we give him a standing ovation

This will have been a tough period for him with all the speculation. Like the fans did for Marti at his lowest point this season, the fans sang his name and the love of the club turned things around. Let's do the same for Jimmy and hope Nourri backs it up with the sort of contract he clearly has earned and deserves.

I hope Dunne does now sign a long contract - He can still get a move (with a trigger of lets say £5M in the terms of which he will get a percentage) He will get an immediate pay rise and everyone's happy.

I like to think this was plan B which Norry and Dunne had already agreed to should Sheff Utd not meet our asking price.

If we’ve blocked a much better paid, long term contract it’s not going to be easy. IMO we give him the longer term commitment he’s supposedly been holding out for. Either way if he starts tonight a rousing reception won’t do any harm.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse

My worry is how this matter will affect Dunne.....not so sure he really wanted to leave but the 'bright lights' & money took over - money, 'the root of all evil'!!!

Be interesting to see if Dunne's injury has cleared up......and selected tonight.

Well, we will never know for sure but did his non appearance against Millwall lose us the three points ?

I hope if he plays tonight he gets a very good reception, he is still an R and we can't wipe out everything he has done for us this season.

Show him he is appreciated and he might just sign that contract.

I have a feeling that the groin thing may be real and that we won't see him until the next game.

Never knowingly right.

Can't help thinking this was all engineered.

Was increasingly apparent as time wore on, that there was to be an improved contract signed, and announced tonight, before the game.

All the hullabaloo with Sheffield United, but can't help but assume that, it was all, a lot of hot air !!!

It's been a pain in the butt, however the right outcome prevails !!!

And breathe !!!

And if his form falls off a cliff or he has a long term injury and he's not the same once he gets back then no one will buy him and we have a sub-par player for the remainder of the contract.

Thing is, lots of "iffs & buts" on both sides of the argument.

It really is a delicate balancing act, one that for a very long time has been very much in favour of the player.

So, basically, we shouldn't give any player more than a couple of years or so, because they might get injured or lose form?

As said, it's a balancing act and a difficult one at that. The club has been lambasted many times for giving out 5 year contracts where it backfired.... SWP for one, and there are plenty of others from that time, and Taylor Richards in the here and now (though 3 years is not as bad as 5 but we've still come unstiuck)

It's a massive game of risk where so many things can go wrong;

long contract> players phones it in/gets injured/loses form/doesn't give a scht and we're stuck with that player.
How many times have we seen around transfer windows people say "xxxx player is rubbish, we should sell them" - well, if they are rubbish what club is going to buy them? And if they do, it'll probably be at a loss to us.

Short contract> player becomes the new Messi and we lose him for nowt.

Easy for us to sit here and say the club should do this and do that when there is no pressure on us whatsoever regarding the outcome. Try making those decisions when your neck is on the line, I wouldn't want to!

Maybe we have extended his contract while he’s injured, we like to sign an injured player

I think it's safe to say the window's shut and he's still with us. Now I wonder how long he'll be out with that groin injury for now that we no longer need to mislead the Sheffield United medical team.

Do you really think Sheffield United’s medical team would not know whether the injury was real or not.

SWP was "only" 4 years.

What's a bigger risk?

27 year old Dunne on a 4 year contract?

Or

24 year old CB from a champ/league 1 club (that we might have to buy?) on a 3 year contract?

If he played day after he dad died, i don´t see no reason why wouldn´t he play today

Unless the groin strain is genuine or the club decides to play it out to save face.
