False number nine 23:13 - Oct 24 with 5812 views | Logman | There's no point in playing Celar up top on his own on Saturday. When the ball gets booted up to him if we ever get out he will be out-muscled and out-paced and it will not stick. Then, if we can create any chances, again he is not going to beat the centre backs. We might be better off with a false number nine ten yards deeper to link with Chair, Smyth and Dembele and try to thread one of them through. Who could play in that position ? My choice would be Kolli but maybe Andersen or even Madsen could give it a go ? [Post edited 24 Oct 23:16]

False number nine on 13:46 - Oct 25 by stainrods_elbow | What are his options, though? The man looked haunted and half-resigned, post-Coventry. And his statement today on the Offish that he has 'full belief' in his players reads like a manager and club trying to feel better about itself, even if the usual suspects may ask what I expect him to say. If that were true, however, he wouldn't have (rightly) dropped Madsen, for instance. (And people often say the opposite of what they mean in my psychological experience - especially propagandists like soccer coaches.) In the words of Basil Fawlty, it's hard to see beyond our team getting anything other than a damn good thrashing in Lancashire. We fluked the spawniest of all victories there under Ainsworth, but lighting can't strike twice - can it? A gritty 0-0 would probably please us all immensely, but I don't see it happening. His options are limited of course but we have players with pace and now we have a few players who like to get forward quickly. We are going to be defending a lot but should be looking to catch them on the break. It would be nice to think that we could take advantace of the few set pieces that come our way.

False number nine on 10:16 - Oct 25 by qprninja | Have we ever beaten a Scott Parker side? He's not even that good. So annoying. |
No we haven't. In fact the tailor's dummy has annoyingly got a 100% record against us over five games, three with Fulham and two with Bournemouth. [Post edited 25 Oct 20:28]

False number nine on 15:51 - Oct 25 with 1593 views | dannyblue | It’s a tricky one but you have to show belief in celar. I think we could do with chair in a midfield three. He can receive in tight spaces, he can carry it, and he can keep possession. Get tight and narrow, and have celar run channels on the counter to bring smyth and Saito in Celar Saito field chair smyth Varane Fox JCS Cook Dunne Nardi

False number nine on 08:50 - Oct 25 by BrianMcCarthy | Agree. Plus, if we were to go to a False 10 set-up we'd have to have either lots of time to practice it or we'd have to have an exceptionally talented and/or intelligent player in that role. Celar has a run of games now. I'd imagine we'll concentrate on that. |
It’s a strange one. As the only striker we are obliged to play him, but most on here, me included, believe we would have a better chance opting for someone else and changing tactics. I personally would go for Anderson. When on form he is mobile and links well with others. A proper footballer. Celar just doesn’t look up to it, but we need to play him more before throwing the baby out with the bathwater….unfortunately.

False number nine on 20:00 - Oct 25 with 1377 views | joe90 | I would like to remind people that at present, we are struggling with the basics. Switching to a false 9 will require our players to do things they can’t. What we need is support for Celar in and around the box. He can’t play as lone striker. [Post edited 25 Oct 20:16]

By the power of Greyskull a new he-man will emerge onto the turf moor and the spirit of Steiner will inspire our anti- hero. 1-4. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Therefore full Mourinho mode of Celar Chair Varane Field Dembele Saito JCS Cook Dunne Smyth Naardi Surely it is not beyond the wit of our manager to play this one "Park the bus mode" They are reputed to be professional footballers.

False number nine on 13:47 - Oct 25 by Northernr | Celar looks like a pretty false nine to me atm tbf. |
In our last two home games I couldn't split Celar and Frey, Frey's first touch in the 1st Half but was very poor in the air and disappeared in the 2nd Half, Celar held the ball up well in the 1st Half, made some good layoffs with his chest to set up attacking moves, and likewise disappeared in the 2nd Half, possibly both due to how we lose our shape in the 2nd Half of games as we chase an equaliser, Not really getting how right now one is being touted as the 2nd Alf Inge Haaland and the other the 2nd coming of Conor Washington. Playing as a lone striker in the Championship might be the hardest job in football, particularly with a midfield without a forward passer and Chair taking his custo.ary 5 touches, I'm still hopeful Celar can adjust to this league and our unique supporting cast.

Alf Inge would do right now let alone Erling.

Frey disappeared against Portsmouth & had a very poor touch in the first half? I think you will find that you one of the very few on with these views. Personally, I thought Frey was by far our best & most constructive player in the match, with his through ball to Chair in the second half being our pass of the season.

False number nine on 12:38 - Oct 25 by E15Hoop | Step forward Mr. Kevin Betsy - this is your time to shine.. You'd hope that our famed Individual Program Player Coach (or whatever his official longwinded title is) will have been working around the club to bring Celar up-to-speed, seeing as the striker role should be Betsy's specialist subject. |
Surely there is the word Performance in his title? Perhaps ‘individual program performance player coach’ or is it ‘individual performance program player coach’? or perhaps even ‘individual program player performance coach’? I think we should be told

False number nine on 12:33 - Oct 26 with 740 views | DavieQPR | Maybe three in central midfield, with two of them being more more defensive minded and Chair being more attacking. Also the wingers playing narrower allowing them to run either side.
False number nine on 12:53 - Oct 26 with 703 views | bosh67 | It's worth noting that for all the sticks and stones thrown at our existing forwards that Dykes and Armstrong have achieved 2 goals between them in combined 16 games this season. Both scored by Armstrong.
