Wrong game for him to play in today , looked really slow and lightweight. We missed the Ginger Ninja methinks.

He just seems to be slow of thought this season . His decision making especially with time on the ball seems way off .

Prime example, he was well in and only had to put a ball through to Frey , but dithered and got dispossessed. Marti should not have played him today.

I wondered that as well. Might be a dip in confidence?

I hope it's just that. He's only 30 so hoping it's not a physical issue.

I think I might be in a small minority here but I don’t see anything in him
He has no pace, poor fitness, hardly scores
The sooner chair comes back into this team the better

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

looks low in confidence and crowd started getting on his back but you also had 4 players on the field all wanting to operate in the same space. Never hides though. Goal goes in first half might have been a different story

I would say just a poor game from him today, not sure that him and Dembele fit together. Think he might still be recovering from the injury up at Sheff Utd, but no excuses he was well off it. Dembele also out of sorts as well. Frey was very good today seemed to be working his socks off all game, getting goals as well.

For what it's worth (a bag of stale crisps and a bottle of flat Lucozade) I get the impression that we have too many players attempting to play the same few positions. Andersen, Dembélé, Madsen, and Lloyd, though different styles, each take up the same attacking midfield spaces, with Saito and Smyth cutting in from the wings. When Chair returns he'll be in there too. Some confusion should be expected, at least in the short term. As I keep saying, ten league games before we wheel out Mme Guillotine I reckon.

The warning signs were there in the pre season game against Spurs. Yes I know it was against a premier league side, but he looked so off the pace. If he's not carrying a knock then it looks like his legs have gone.

He's only just turned 30 - and has played, what, less than 300 games?

If his legs have gone, he's getting older too quickly!

I don't think he is playing very well so far this season but he did get into some good positions in the box yesterday, and could have scored twice if it wasn't for some sliding blocks by Millwall defenders.

C'mon, matey, that is just peak social media. No-one is suggesting that we get the guillotine meme out here, they are just questioning how bad Anderson was yesterday (he really was btw) and how poor he has been this season (he has by the way).

Not suggesting that he gets run out of the club, not suggesting Marti gets sacked, just highlighting that maybe he should get dropped. We are so poor without Chair (still), but in his absence Saito - Dembele - Smyth surely?

Can we go out yet?

I’d be stunned if he starts at Blackburn . He and Madsen are way too stationary for the same team at the moment .
Madsen looks better to me as 6 in alongside Field as he is certainly more comfortable on the ball.
Still don’t think Madsen has adapted to the pace of the Championship yet and that might be why he is being played further forward .

It's wrong to use yesterdays game as the single stick to beat him with - I actually feel he's been poor for an extended period, ie whole of this season and quite a few games last season as well.

Forget his age look more at the number of 90 mins he's completed.
Sadly he's not up to a 50 game season at this level as odd moments of class and superb deliveries here and there don't airbrush out the rest of what's needed.

The few times he's got near to opposition players this season he's simply bounced off of them, no physical presence and the energy levels seem to be getting lower and lower each week.

I cannot deny he was a decent part of our turnaround last season but on the evidence currently to hand he's one I'd be moving on in January as sadly he looks like he'd only be effective late in the season after prolonged rest and other teams form / physique dipping.

Having him and Madsen in the same team should never happen again.
It was akin to having two static sides of Danish bacon on the pitch and weakened us considerably.

Sad to say it but there you go

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Obviously a big Cifuentes favourite and it's causing a couple of issues.
1 - Dembele is a different beast at 10 to what he is on the wing, but apparently Andersen has to play 10 and so Dembele is wide where he's been far less effective.
2 - Andersen and Madsen seem to be trying to do the same thing to me, in the same places, and the same passing lanes.

It's a difficult one to work out.

You kind of want a narrow 3 playing behind Frey at the moment with

Madsen (right side) Dembele (middle) and Saito (left side) but that's unbalanced because Madsen isn't the quickest?

But what happens when chair returns? I agree that Dembele needs to play down the middle.

I like Anderson but when you have an ideal match play idea to play the ball quickly through the line so you have pace running at the opposition (not happening at the moment) then it isn't clear where either Madsen or Anderson sit, unless they play alongside one of Colback or Field as a much deeper playmaker?

It's a good and a bad headache to have.

Never knowingly right.

All of this kind of makes a mockery of the argument surrounding the selection against Palace.

I’m not even sure Marti knows our best eleven or formation and the side looks and feels unbalanced and lightweight, not to mention players getting selected that are not in form.

I do worry that our attacking midfielders and ball players are too lightweight for this league. Dembele, Smyth, Saito and Anderson get flattened constantly and really look to be struggling. Madsen looks useful, but the hurly burly of this league is a bit of a culture shock to him and his style is similar to Anderson.

Marti has his work cut out and needs to return to the pragmatism that served him well last season.

The team selection for Blackburn needs to reflect the challenge it represents.

I agree.

1) This is obvious, but who plays RW then? Andersen or Smyth. One is not quick enough the other is poor at crossing. I would go with Smyth as I think with Dembele then can do a lot of 1-2's which would really open up the opp defence.

2) Yet Madsen filled in for Colback, he was okay there. But I think Varane was better coming on, not much in it between the two though. But yeah Madsen plays that 10 as Andersen does.

Are Andersen and Cobacks' contracts up at the end of the season? I think they are. And in the second season, they got an auto bump up if we stayed in the Champ (as we did) to get them to come in, I believe. Therefore, letting them go for Madsen and Varane seems to be the long-term plan.

zzzzzzzzzz

Surely you could see the difference he made last season. He was the missing link IMO.
He's had a bad start but he has a good footballing brain. I just think he doesn't have the options open to him which makes him look slow and laboured. Needs some of the forward players / full backs making runs. Same applies with Dembele who now seems to lose the ball more often than not. Need Madsen / Field / Paal to commit more to forward runs instead of safe side to side dross that we've been playing. I think Andersen will be alot better (like most of the other players) when we get Chair back and some stability in the team. Too many changes every week IMO.
