I trust my GP because i have no medical qualifications, if he tells me to have the vaccinations, whether that be for covid or flu then i take his advice. I wouldn't have the audacity to tell him he is wrong. I find it bizarre that people with zero medical or scientific background feel as though they can pontificate about such specialist subjects, not just that, they really think they know better than some of the most qualified people in the world. Anyway, it's been debated to death and going off topic.
Whilst i support the points you're making in general, the thing to remember about GPs (as with all doctors) is that they're human beings
GP Practices are run as businesses, and there are financial incentives involved. So for instance, where research shows that a certain demographic (e.g. the over-60s) might benefit from taking statins (which help prevent heart disease in certain groups), Practices are provided with financial incentives to prescribe statins to X percentage of their patients within that demographic
I'm as fit as the proverbial butcher's dog for my age, but when i went for a routine checkup that people in that demographic are entitled to, my GP asked if i'd consider taking a statin. I turned down his "offer" since there are also side effects that some people will experience, and i absolutely don't need unnecessary medication. The only reason for seeking to prescribe them was so the Practice might reach its target which triggers the financial incentive
So it's not that being human beings, they sometimes make mistakes as we all do, but they're also prone to less than noble motivations, as we all sometimes are too
If you saw how thoroughly any new drug is tested before it's released it would blow your mind. Any drug is tested in 4 phases. The Covid vaccine was no different. The only difference is it was performed at incredible speed, due to a combination of factors - a global urgency; immense funding; and profits not being considered paramount importance. This is not something the British government could simply cover up. It's regulated by powers beyond them.
And the MHRA get most of their funding from the Pharma Companies....
"Is the MHRA funded by pharmaceutical companies"? (the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority)
"We do receive funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as other sources outside government such as WHO. This funding mainly supports work to strengthen regulatory systems in other countries. The majority of our income comes from the pharmaceutical industry through fees".
And then there is the FDA in the US "The Food and Drug Administration has moved from an entirely taxpayer-funded entity to one increasingly funded by user fees paid by manufacturers that are being regulated. Today, close to 45% of its budget comes from these user fees that companies pay when they apply for approval of a medical device or drug"
Maybe these bodies find it difficult to say no when their salaries are effectively paid by Pharma?

People respond to incentives, including GPs. It's not just the payments for hitting targets, GPs are also scared of being struck off if they publicly break ranks.

Its impact on transmission was measured though and was found to be significant, for the original wild type virus. Thus declined (and was eventually eliminated) as more variants appeared, however.

Whilst I’d agree, at least we can all read up on the facts surrounding Covid etc.
Every country in the world was forced to endure it, Italy, Germany, USA etc . Just like our brave NHS workers who were also forced to endure it. It's not something that needs underplaying. The hospitals resembled war zones in the beginning, nobody knew what they were dealing with, or the best way of treating it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? There was a worldwide shortage of PPE in the beginning. Nurses were terrified of going to work, especially those who had to look after the relentless turnover of patients on the covid wards. I know because my wife was one of those nurses, over 30 years in the job and visibly upset and frightened before she went out to do the night shift and face a unknown virus that was killing thousands of people every day. Every nurse on her ward was frightened, especially those young in service. It upset me too, it's not nice seeing your wife like that. The numbers needed publicising because the clowns amongst us wouldn't listen and always know better than the medical experts and virologist. The thousands of NHS staff who worked through those darkest of days deserve a medal, many lost their life's fulfilling their duty.

Just seems our energies need to be elsewhere at the moment. Plus both sides on a COVID debate will never agree so it's all just wasted energy typing. I learnt this about discussing politics a while back it's just a waste of time putting any energy into it as both sides won't budge. Any news from the EGM yet?

For some it's a welcome discussion away from the absolute shit show that's surrounded the club for what seems like forever, probably the wrong time to be bored but I'll be totally honest I'm bored to tears with all the goings on in the background.
