An Ipswich fan says he's the closest thing to Kieran McKenna on the market at the moment without actually hiring McKenna. Also Tuchel gave him a lot of credit when C*****a won the Champions League so he'll always have that on him. Very Mick Beale as Rangers assitant vibes about him. Probably the exact market we're looking at https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/news/anthony-barry-tuchel-heir-chelsea-24 [Post edited 29 Nov 2022 18:14]

"The 36-year-old is also believed to be responsible for transforming the Blues into one of the Premier League's leading set-piece specialists." Could come in handy.

Who Next? on 09:09 - Nov 29 by R_from_afar | Thanks for posting, I agree with quite a lot of your individual points. Some of the fans I sit near there are incredibly entitled and look down their noses at Ainsworth, making out he's the village idiot. OK, he's not going to be writing any ground-breaking coaching manuals but he has worked wonders on a tiny budget for years, and this season, the club is close to bankruptcy (my mate knows some of the hierarchy and does volunteer work at the club, plus his girlfriend worked there until recently). I totally accept that you won't see Swansea style ball retention and long sequences of passing but I personally find that boring and unproductive, and, often, if done at the back, risky. It's all about opinions, though, I totally respect your view. The style is not attractive but I haven't seen a reliance on hoofball. They sit higher in the table than Oxford - OK, only by a point - and MK Dons, two teams whose managers people have mentioned on here. I wouldn't class the approach as defensive, I would say they are, collectively, good at defending. I have honestly found their football exciting to watch but it *is* more direct than that of the teams whose style fans purr over. Mind you, Warnock's football was pretty direct too... Ainsworth isn't my preference for the QPR job anyway, partly because I think Critchley and Evatt are better coaches and partly because fans' concerns about football style - a central theme in your post - will hang over Ainsworth's head from day one, whether justified or not, like the sword of Damacles. Let's spare him. |
Great post. You have put into words my feelings exactly - rather better than I could myself.

It is what is done in other sectors to plug a gap until recruitment process can be properly conducted.

The reality of the situation is that we don't have money for a 'big name' manager, either long or short term. We have a competitive starting XI, that is a little too reliant on two/three players, and not much quality in the squad beyond that. We'll also likely need to sell one of our more prized assets in either January or next summer, or we could be in breach of FFP again. We're just about keeping our heads above water. So, we're not exactly a super attractive proposition for any prospective manager. For all the reasons listed above, Critchley most fits the bill. He's worked on the square-root of sod all at Blackpool, made them competitive, and developed existing talent.

Best get Stainrods Elbow to conduct the interview and manage the negotiations, I’m sure he’ll get it right.

Yes saw that. Did well with the academy team last season at Man City but not great with the 1st team at Rochdale before that to be honest. Would be a huge gamble.

The female Klopp/Pep! I think she is a better tactician and in game manager than most men in the game and certainly better than anyone in this league.

An old Irish bloke who I'd never seen before or since spent the 90 minutes shouting 'You're a feckin Cork City reject' every time Barry-Murphy came near. Said nothing else all game, just that. Anyway, get him in.
