Will the person or persons responsible for bringing this guy to our club please take a bow. Absolutely superb performance today, capped off with a well deserved goal.

Thing that struck me was how confident he was. Again kudos for the way he has been introduced into the first team. Looks like he's loving every minute.

Really think Willock could be a player in the mold of Eze more so than Chair. Very good on the ball. Getting stronger and has great manipulation of the ball and space awareness to get out of difficult situations. Has a good football brain and can spot a pass. Really great seeing him and Chair playing together. I always think that when they play together they play like two mates. Interchanging passes and just having fun

Despite being listed right there in the staff directory Belk has been too underground for the sort of people that would routinely call for someone's head. Was kind of enjoying the possibility of it staying that way...

End of last year the job description on the site advertising for a recruitment analyst position mentioned the usual Wyscout/Scout7 tools but also specifically "experience using StatsBomb Data", which is probably industry standard at this point but still has a certain irony given their growing influence at Brentford was the point of contention that led to Warbs' departure there.

I reckon he was just looking for an excuse at that stage ;)

Agreed that Willock and Chair seem to have a synergy. I keep thinking how Amos might fit in. If things go right there seems to be exciting potential.

Willock has got better.....playing a lot more consistently than he was. Needs to be more consistent but, for sure, he has the talents. Time will tell if he is an automatic first team choice.

Although this is true, it's an Andy Belk (head of recruitment) pick, based on analysis and all that trendy sht. Same with Dickie, George Thomas and Sam Field.

That’s interesting, wasn’t aware of that, I’m all for this data analysis stuff.

It does throw up a small glitch, the possibility of doing things arse over tit. Suspect those players could easily have found themselves in League One next season as I’d imagine the stats wouldn’t have suggested Austin, Johansen and De Vijs as signings which we’d all agree has saved our season.

Regards the Patreon thing with Willock, do us a favour, if he says anything remotely iffy, just edit it out.

I think Clive meant that he's working on getting Belk for the Patreon interview?

Why would stats have not played a part with Austin, Johansen and de Wijs?

Our coach Neil Banfield worked with him at Arsenal so seems very likely that is a big factor. But sounds better for the club if they can push the narrative that we’re the new Moneyball/Brentford

Surely all the boomers would rather hear it's a bloke who circles them in the Argos catalogue.

Yesterday I thought that there were two players that the oppo had difficulty getting the ball off: Bannan and Willock.

I think the big lesson this season is don't judge too quickly. Whether it's the manager, the scouting, the players or whatever. Some of the hysteria from earlier this season would be embarrassing to those people if they read it again now.

Not all the players will be a success long term, but I think the strike rate from this season will be very high when we look back on it. Dieng (yes I know he was signed a while ago), Dickie, Willock, Field, Dykes and De Wijs are undoubtedly the real deal. Thomas has only had fleeting opportunities so can't be judged, but I liked yesterday's showing from him a lot. Jury's out on Bonne but again we have seen glimpses of quality and it's the job of the coaching staff to maximise that, but not one of the new players has made me think we are wasting our time.

Yes, Johansen and Austin have been key to our improvement, but those sort of players are needed to bring any team on, and there is no reason that we should give up on the idea that Dykes will be another Austin, or that Amos or Thomas could fill Johansen's role if needs be in the near future.

Knee jerk reactions and signings are what killed us in the Prem. We appear to have come on a long way from those days.

He deserves his place now, just, but he was very inconsistent in my book Norf. I think I have been pretty fair tbh.......always am . Continues his improvements and I will be happy.

I agree. And you can see how he's benefitted from the coaching he's had and the physical conditioning. He's much stronger and harder to push off the ball. He's also got more stamina, so that's helped improve his consistency. But his potential was obvious from the first couple of games and I think we did really well to spot it.

I just wonder how many of the current squad that we will get to keep for much longer if they keep improving. You can be sure that a number of clubs will have been looking at some of our young players this year and the likes of Willock, Dickie and Dieng will be on their radar as possible transfers. Seems like a very long time indeed since we have been in this position.

Credit to the club for identifying and developing the talent who have joined us. Now hoping that we get to see a little more of Bettache as part of the next wave of talent coming through.

Never knowingly understood

Is that the first time he’s completed 90 mins for us? He certain hasn’t done more than a handful.

Yep just checked. That’s the first time Willock has completed a full match for us. He did 88 mins a few weeks ago and 82 a while back other than that he was either subbed or a sub. He looked like he could keep playing for a week yesterday.

Which was the Norf match preview that patiently explained how recruitment has always been and continues to be from various different inputs at the club, contrary to narratives? Success has many fathers or summat.
