What do we need? 05:37 - Oct 3 with 10487 viewsstainrods_elbow

4 players, I'd suggest.

A goalkeeper. (How I miss my Smithies!)

A tall (or alternatively small) ball-playing central defender. Are Danny Maddix and/or Paul Parker still in the building?

A midfield, Sean Derry-esque enforcer.

A better than Hugill Hugill (who I fear is looking less and less like an upgrade on Matt Smith, boys and girls).

(I make that a spine. We need to grow a bit of it.)

I shall ask Santa, as Mr Hoos doesn't quite warm the cockles in this domain.

That is all.

Goalkeeper - Lumley after an intensive weight training programme may cut it. Kelly wrong choice versus Morrison + Flint + Warnock last night

Centre Half - McKenna seems to play well against Morelos who is a handful - we need a Centre Half who knows how to defend, 2nd was poor last night, 3rd was worse, Centre Halves had to pick up men on edge and not retreat and Mark space

Midfield - Ball could be our enforcer, hampered by changing formation to compensate our Achilles, our Centre Halves

Centre Forward _ Hughill needs service - Shodipo is a fair better option than. BOS as not consistently looking at his feet, can look up and pick out a player rather than smashing every crosss

Warburton knows what he needs as seen by pursuit of McKenna.

Patience

And acceptance of results like last night

We're pretty good everywhere apart from at both business ends at the moment I reckon. That's a shame as it's where results are made!!!

I enjoy watching us play which is something I've not said for about five years.
We'll beat teams you'd expect us to beat, lose to teams you'd expect us to lose to and have games that could go either way against clubs of similar status to us.
Ergo....... mid table.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Spot on LB

What we actually need is a sense of perspective, plus a dose of realism.

We, along with 7 other clubs, are within 3 points of WBA in 3rd, we've just completely changed our squad and are playing some of the best football we have seen for a number of seasons.

What we don't need or can afford, are yet more players or to panic after a couple of poor results in a 46 game season.

Who would have thought when that 3rd goal went in v Luton, that the next 4 hours of football would mean no goals for and 7 against but as someone once said 'Football eh? Bloody Hell!'

On to the next one - beat Blackburn and we can all calm down again!

Another one of those posters we don't hear a thing from during a four match winning run but is suddenly back pedalling the need for a completely new spine to the side and another dig at the CEO after two defeats.

Starting to be a few digging out Hugill. I think it’s totally wrong. He’s a great mix of mobile and physical but he’s feeding of scraps in the last two games.

We can’t keep buying keepers. One of the three we have needs to make the spot theirs.

For me the issue lies in the poor decision making of our young creative three. Eze, Chair and BOS all have talent, Eze bags of talent, but at the moment they’re making the wrong decision at the vital last moment. If they can improve their use of the ball in the final third we’ll score lots more goals.

We need a top quality centre-back. Physical and fast.

And probably someone better than Scowen to play box to box centre mid

Eze was absolute different level last night despite Cardiff picking out as danger and man-marking / following all over the pitch.

Issuing lies in poor decision making of our Centre Halves, caught out by short corner they ball-watch and try to play offside instead of being touch-tight, for 3rd instead of picking up attackers they backed off into space.

We are not far away. Even losing 3-0 we looked pretty good and this is another promotion contender who hasn't lost home. Sounds ridiculous but anyone who went to Brentford away last year will realise how far we have come and the difference in performance, even if both games have the same score line.

We need a centre half and Warburton knows that hence him trying to sign Mckenna but other than that no real issues with the squad. Hugil's form has dropped but he'll come good again

I was referring to our past form against them, one of those clubs we seem unable to beat.

11/10? Haha. The bookies obviously don't know our history with them and not having beaten them at home since 1993...

Shodipo, forgotten all about him. What injury has he got now?

What do we need? on 12:57 - Oct 3 with 5587 viewsJordanFoster

What a crazy post.

Lumley and Kelly are more than able for a club our size in the Championship.

Yoann Barbet is arguably the best ball playing defender in the league, but like many other players in this league if he could defender like Kompany and play like he does he wouldn't be in this league.

One of Scowen, Ball and Cameron are more than capable of playing that role.

Hugill is 10x the player of Smith and has completely no service.

To say the spine needs replacing after a loss against one of this years promoted teams and a typucal Neil Warnock side we completely outplayed seems harsh.

or maybe the bookies know that QPR v Blackburn games in the past have **** all to do with Saturday.

Past form between teams if not recent, involving mainly same players, style of play and management means nothing and given the frequency of turnover and changes to all 3 of those, that means it is hardly ever relevant.

Yes, I get all that but as a betting man (as I presume you are) knowing the past match history you would surely not back us to beat Blackburn at home? Bad runs have to end sometime but I know I certainly wouldn't. As I said though on Antti's knee jerks thread, I would be bloody ecstatic if we did though as they are one of the teams that it boils my piss that we can't beat (Preston another).

No - I really don't take ancient past form between teams into account and nor do or should the bookies.

I'm not betting and I'm not doing a forecast but as I said last year, I think on here, before we beat Forest, it is time our hoodoo with them ended. Same goes for Blackburn! Barbet back in the side and go for them early, like we did with Luton, and say a prayer that we don't go behind.

It may be harsh but to say that Barbet is arguably the best ball playing defender in the league is fanciful at best and ignores the fact that Championship defenders need to know how to defend first and foremost. Ball playing ability is a bonus and should not trump defensive skills. If he could defend like Kompany but didn't possess the skill to pass through the lines then he would still be in this league.

We need me to go on holiday more often. Whilst I was away we beat Wednesday, Luton and Millwall. Since I got home we've lost twice. Therefore, if anybody would like to fund a vacation for Mr and Mrs Misery, please feel free to offer me the contents of your bank account.

Loyal fans.

Loyalty is a completely different commodity to blind love. It's perfectly acceptable and possible to support your team and identify areas for improvement at the same time. What I don't buy is the notion that QPR fans should know their place and that anyone who craves improvement should support another team.

What I will accept, however, is a call for patience. Whilst there are obvious areas for improvement there are challenges that mean that it can't and won't happen overnight. The key thing is that the club seems to be moving in the right direction hence why the reaction to last night's defeat was, on the whole, pragmatic.

Think of these threads as a discussion around future strategy rather than a demand for immediate change.
