Anybody reccomened any good autobiographies or football books? Read Michael Calvin’s “living on the volcano” not so long ago and some pretty interesting stories from managers that you wouldn’t normally hear about.

If you can get a copy, ‘my favourite year’ is a brilliant journey into yesteryear. The Bristol City one still makes me laugh heartily. There’s also a chapter on the Swans third division promotion season under tosh.

Nothing to do with football but I’ve been busy recommending this to people in work who have been going away and looking for something to read. One of the best novels I’ve read decades...

Speaking of Russia, you could try "The Unwomanly Face of War" by Svetlana Alexievich, a selection of interviews with WW2 female Soviet veterans, which I'm half way through at the moment.

Particularly recommend the harrowing section entitled "Of Death and Astonishment in the Face of Death".

Seems incredible that many of these girls were 16 - 20 year olds.

On the other hand, it's not exactly beach reading material.

Beartown (and Us against Them) by Fredrik Backman. Absolutely brilliant.

About to dive into Gnomon by Nick Harkaway which looks right up my street.

I second this, great book

It is excellent-originally produced by "When Saturday Comes'

If still available 'Morbo' and "Tor' their histories of Spanish and German football are fascinating.

I enjoy the Danny Baker books-funny and sad and find Stuart Maconie's books about music (Cider with Roadies) and the UK a good read. Also David Hepworth's 'Uncommon People' if you are into music.

Finally, and more obscure is Robert Forster's 'Grant and I" which traces the history of the Australian Indie band 'The Go Betweens'. A brilliant book but helps if you know a little about this great band

It you're into music, the books by the late great Deke Leonard about the Welsh group Man, who celebrate their 50th anniversary this year are a brilliant read ...They're also a great insight into Welsh music

Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics: The legend of Man - a rock 'n'roll band

Maybe I Should've Stayed In Bed?: The Flip Side Of The Rock'n'Roll Dream

Maximum Darkness: Man On The Road To Nowhere

Tony Adams and Paul Lake are the best autobiographies I’ve read. Mainly because they aren’t solely about football.

Up Pomphei is a nice, feel good factor kind of a book. It won’t have you riveted, but it’s very light poolside reading.

It is. Antony Beevor is a brilliant popular historian. His latest book on Arnhem is excellent too.

Not as many as I hoped for, apparently mick wouldn’t let him spill all the beans. The stuff they did back in the 70’s....

If you want a light-hearted, funny read then I recommend 'A good ride' by Irvine Welsh.

If you're going on a particularly long holiday then Steven Erikson's series "Malazan book of the fallen" will keep you occupied for a while starting with "Gardens of the Moon"
