Whilst in my previous reply I was concentrating on pointing out his championship credentials (at the expense of your pretty meaningless stat regarding respective performances last season in L1), the real question here is - why take issue with this signing of someone with proven skill when Hill has a long list of players who've underperformed elsewhere and rejuvenated their careers? Why Davies? Did you complain about COG, Hendo, Vincenti, etc?

As I've said, I hope any scepticism is without basis and Hill mends a player whose form has apparently dipped.

We all know he's done it in the past, but it's easy to overlook the less successful 'goalscorers' (and those in other positions) he has signed: Jon Shaw, Lewis Alessandra, Graham Cummins, Febian Brandy, Liam Dickinson, Sammi Odelusi ...

In a way, that stat worries me more: why could an ex-Championship player not command a regular starting place in a L1 side?

On the other hand, for those who distrust stats, he was Bradford's second (jointly) leading league goalscorer with those 5 goals.

I'm not sure there's any distrust of stats; it's more to do with how they are interpreted.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

On the contrary, it's not easy to overlook unsuccessful signings, I just fail to see what there is to be gained from assuming they'll be unsuccessful.

Hill's latest interview on the OS suggests Davies will provide cover or an alternative to Calvin.

He also says Cannon was indeed used at right back because Rafferty was injured but we lost something in midfield as a result.

He doesn't say whether or not Rafferty is still injured.

He wants one more player before the window shuts - someone to cover right back or central defence.

He also said he spoke to the Chairman about keeping the nucleus of the squad together until at least January. That perhaps suggests we've had enquiries about a player or two, as well as him stressing the need to get more players in.

Phil Edwards has just signed for Oxford, might have been a decent shout.

No manager has 100% success rate with transfers even Fergie signed the odd duffer.

Poll: Remain in the eu
