Been awful. Hauled off at half time at Arsenal and again yesterday. Offers nothing and these changes are a waste of a substitution that we have at our disposal later in the game. Isn't it time that the management stopped picking him. He has no guts for a fight, as seen a couple of seasons back at Sunderland.

I was genuinely gobsmacked to see him in the team today, partly due to form and partly due to the negative formation the manager selected. Against the worst team in the league and all

Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

My thoughts exactly.

After being subbed at HT against Arsenal, was very surprised to see Ki even in the squad let alone starting. Bizarre lineup too, Siggy looked like he didn't know where he was playing first half but was completely transformed second half.

I can't work out why he's gone from quality to dross in one season but he just gets overrun in midfield. Average up to December but just woeful since. Join a growing list of players in a big clear out this Summer.

I expected us to go 4 3 3 yesterday, with Cork and Fer in midfield, Gylfi in the false number 10, then Barrow, Gomis / Paloschi and Montero
Would also have taken a hell of a lot of pressure off Rangel and Kingsley
Sorry, I know Guidolin has to do a job, but that was too negative for me

Ki needs to be in a side which is dominating and on teh front foot. He just aint a defensively minded player. He likes teh ball at his feet so he can pass it around and run with it. Hes never going to be any good at keeping shape and putting his foot in. The way we have set up, particularly this season does not suit him at all.

Hopeless - if he was "saving himself" to play for S Korea, he's a bloody disgrace.
Bye bye Ki

Every time I read the Sunderland forum match thread for our games the same thing is said. Good player but not someone you want in a scrap.(I alluded to this as most Sunderland fans seem to rate him) He has shown glimpses of promise over the years. Hes been garbage lately though.

His job is different this season. He's gone from playing with Shelvey (where he would be the more defensive of the pairing, joining in attack occasionally), to playing with Leon or Cork or both (where the onus is on him to attack). He's having to close down higher, make early attacking runs etc. and it's not his natural game.

It's no great shock that he's struggled to refind his old form, especially when you add in the mess on the left yesterday where no one knew who was supposed to pick up who (Ash yelling at him after he did a good job closing down Gylfi's man on the wing, leaving a man free that Ash himself should have picked up tbh).

I thought he was alright in the first half yesterday. Looked a bit of a headless chicken but put a shift in and did more on the ball than Fer I thought, certainly no worse than 5 or 6 others. Not a harsh substitution though because things had to change and unlike Gylfi/Leon etc. he's a fragile lad who wilts under the kind of abuse the team were getting from the stands.

He's also always poor in the second half of seasons. Injuries and Asia Cup absences covered up that fact last season. He was lucky to win POTY as there was more consistent performers over 38 games (Fabianski).

Agree our formation doesn't suit him so puzzled why we still pick him. Also agree he's never been a great tackler but last few months he just hasn't bothered trying.

His wife's been seriously ill. He's not an automaton. It's bound to creep into his professional life.
The guy is class, just not this season. I think that getting rid would be a big mistake.

Like Gomis he gets unfairly accused of never trying when it has really just been most games.

Midfield was a structural mess yesterday. When Leon came on he actually held his position (Cork had been closing down right up the pitch) and made everyone else's job so much easier.

In the nearly four years he's been here we've had one good season out of him.

Whilst he's obviously got ability we have to be asking ourselves if that's a good enough ratio to keep him around come the summer shakedown. Personally I'd like to see us try and do better.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

We need pace and energy in midfield - a player like Kante. Even Gueye made our midfield look pedestrian yesterday.

The formation doesn't help him, he's not really needed alongside both Cork and Fer. Think he'd do a lot better in a 4-2-3-1 where the centre of midfield is less crowded, and there's more attacking options for him to feed.

He would do a lot better playing for someone else, full stop.
There are much better mid field players as identified above.

He's clearly got ability, he showed that last season, to get rid of someone with his class at this stage would be rash and very reactionary.

Ki is clearly our quickest midfielder, though. Twice as fast in the sprint as Cork, and Leon's little legs can only carry him so fast.

Ayew is surprisingly slow given his rep in France. Even Ash outpaces him.

Kante is exceptional physically, he makes every other midfielder in the league look lethargic. Unfair standard to aspire to.

Ki is a good player but for some reason this season he's not played to the best of his ability.

May be he's not happy with being in South Wales or there are other issues outside of the game which is affecting his game, either way he's not had a great season.

Stats:
1 goal
1 assist
20 appearances
6 subs
0.8 Shots per game
0.7 ariels won
92% pass completion
Biggest weakness is tackling
