Huw Jenkins to Reflect on Garry Monk's time in charge on 19:44 - Apr 29 by exiledclaseboy | Some would also view us as one of the "weak" Premier League teams and our own run of form this season hasn't exactly been what you'd call "good". Still surprises me how blasé some seem to be about the teams we should be "expecting" to beat at this level. And that applies regardless of who the manager is. Delusions of grandeur and big time charlie syndrome abound. |
And conveniently forgetting the fact that we've also given Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton a good game and got a point at Arsenal
Huw Jenkins to Reflect on Garry Monk's time in charge on 20:59 - Apr 29 with 1724 views | ItchySphincter | Spurs apparently looking at De Boer now that VanGaal is bound for Manure. Wonder if Koeman is still pimping himself out? Don't think Garry is the overwhelming fans' choice but goes without saying he would have our support if he was put in.

Don't think he's unanimously the board's choice either. Monk's done a decent job in difficult circumstances but I'd still see his appointment on a permanent basis as an unnecessarily risky move.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Well I should hope so as we're mathematically safe on 39. Anyhoo, I'm not sure how can decide either way without knowing what the options are. Monk might be the best or at least most suitable candidate. The only way I'll criticise his appointment is if we don't even see what options we have.

Wait until the summer rolls on if Monk gets the job permanently. There'll be professional carpers reversing their positions all over the place.

Any new manager no matter how experienced is also a risk unless you're looking at a handful of names at the top. I think we could do with a bit of continuity now

If he is appointed and it doesn't work out then getting a new man half way will be even more of a problem and even riskier. Nobody really wants to come in mid term with someone else's team and who would be available. A difficult decision all round. At least now there is some time to find a candidate before pre-season. I can't see GM wanting to be a number 2 and will want his input which the new guy won't necessarily want. The only way it could work is if GM was part of the selection process for the new man, someone he could work with, with a view he would take over in a couple of years. The whole club must move forward and can't stand still if we want to compete in this league ...... not an easy one.

No it's not an easy decision for any of the parties involved. But after reading all of this thread, to me,yours was the most sensible. And when a decision is made, none of our opinions will be worth a light anyway.

Mercy be and they said Laudrup had not ambition. You did see the form of WBA when we played them - abysmal didn't come close. If we cannot beat teams in such dire form and relegation fodder then who would we ever expect to take points from? We must at least have some objectives and expectations however humble. Glad at least the pundits have more confidence in the quality of our team.

It's easy to pick one game and make a case. For example: Did you see the form of Cardiff when we played them away? 1 win in 8 games before we played them (against Fulham) and another 5 games after until they won again. Abysmal. So what's your excuse for that one?

He has a huge advantage in that he s come up from the ranks and been with the club many years, players, fan s and the board like him and trust him. He won t bugger off to another club after one season whatever the result...there is stability there. Would hate some foreign manager like Pochetino at Southampton to come in. He can't even speak English..how the feck does that work on the day btw? Do as I suggest Huw and all will be well.... [Post edited 30 Apr 2014 10:35]

based on what? What contacts do you know he has to bring in players? He's been involved in this club for so long he will be relying on our own scouting system which has so far not produce much quality. Rodgers and ML mainly signed players they either knew or had their own ppl bring in. Rodgers brought in Gylfi, Borini and Sinclair from previous experience ML brought in players he had previously worked with Monk does not have that network to recruit like this. He will in time but without a better scouting system we will be looking at championship recruiting i feel

I have a feeling that Drizzy is highlighting something another poster got wrong about Pochettino when Southampton appointed him. Am I right Drizzy?
