Games Left for Bottom 10 in PL on 13:46 - Mar 21 with 19790 views | Odgaard | I Always thought that Sunderland would stay up, but what a fixtures they have! Even though they have 2-3 games in hand to other teams, they have a tough tough schedule! If they dont win against Norwich, i would say its close to game over! Norwich could easy save their season with a win this weekend! and stay safe
Games Left for Bottom 10 in PL on 17:11 - Mar 21 with 19634 views | Glyn1 | Thanks for this. I had had no idea how tough the fixtures were for Sunderland, but now I think they'll go down. If Fulham begin to play half decently then they might actually escape the drop.

Games Left for Bottom 10 in PL on 19:38 - Mar 21 with 19530 views | icecoldjack | IMO We need to be concerned about ourselves only . Wigan a few seasons back were dead and buried and had a crazy run in against all the top teams ut managed to beat and take points off nearly all of them to stay up ! If we need other teams to keep us up then we dont deserve to be there anyway, hopefully the Swans will not need that and will look after themselves, they are more than good enough !

Agree with all of that but just feel that comparing our remaining fixtures with others' offers a bit of context.

Today's game made that even harder for Fulham with a goal difference of -40, thank goodness.

I have predicted the final league table based on all of the last scheduled games to play, I've looked at each game and aired with caution ie 2-2 against Norwich, loss to Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle etc. and come up with the following... Team Pld W D L F A W D L F A Pts GD Swansea 38 6 6 7 33 29 4 5 10 20 29 41 -5 West Ham 38 7 3 9 24 28 3 6 10 15 27 39 -16 Norwich 38 8 6 5 17 15 2 3 14 14 46 39 -30 WBA. 38 4 9 6 21 25 2 6 11 17 34 33 -21. Palace 38 7 2 10 15 25 2 3 14 9 28 32 -29 Fulham 38 6 3 10 24 33 3 2 14 12 45 32 -42 Sunderl. 38 4 6 9 19 26 3 4 12 14 35 31 -28 Cardiff 38 6 5 8 22 34 1 5 13 12 35 31 -35 In my confused world... I think 41 points is a little high, but probably mid 30s is going to be enough. Even though we aren't currently picking up points, nobody is giving us a hiding, unlike the 5 teams below us. We could quite easily have won against Everton yesterday and at least deserved a point for the possession we had and chances we made. Probably the best we've played against them since we came into the PL. This will give the team confidence. Now looking forward to the remaining 8 fixtures and hope that we keep trying to play football, with a bit more defensive nous, and we should be fine. The Arsenal game on Tuesday is going to be very interesting given their result against Chelsea and they will be missing a whole midfield (which is where we are strongest). Could be a cracking match ;) I must admit that I'm finding this relegation battle much more exciting than the mid-table mediocrity that we've had at the end of the last 2 seasons ! Obviously don't want us to go down (and don't think we will) and when we stay up I think it will add some steel to the squad for next season.

Games Left for Bottom 10 in PL on 16:55 - Mar 23 with 17927 views | jacksfullaces | all helpful stuff but the reality is who we should and shouldn't win against, and wins in general have been pitiful this year, and cases can be made that we should be beating teams we have left to play, but the facts would indicate that we haven't done much so far. The one thing in our favour at the moment is goal difference and the fact we haven't taken a hiding off anyone. That is about the only positive fact I can take moving into these last 8 games. Q the Emirates.... I'm thinking our record against the mid-top teams is awful this season, almost every lower table team takes 1-2 big scalps a season in their battle for survival - kind of nullifies the fact they will be beaten now and again by those around them. Not doing that was slightly compensated by the fact we were getting points from lower half teams. Now that has dried up it is difficult to see where the points are coming from. Getting into the territory of needing a fluky win sooner rather than later or its curtains. This season is actually turning into a bit of a nightmare. Really hard to enjoy at the moment, must be great for the neutral....

I think we have to accept that this is what we should expect from a club with our limited resources. There are 7 or 8 team like us that have the capability to finish 8th, but extra fixtures in the cups and a bad run of injuries and you'll have a poor season. Over the last couple of years, Newcastle and West Brom have been pushing the top 5 and also struggling with relegation. Even if we stay up this year, this won't be our last difficult season.

Yes, fair point. I feel we just need to graft out the points to the end of the season to keep us up and then we can reflect on how we do better next year (without the additional EL games). Hope GM can settle on his best team for the next 8 fixtures and ask them to get on with it.

Games Left for Bottom 10 in PL on 12:28 - Mar 24 with 17411 views | Al_Bundy | A home win over a Norwich and a point against Villa plus a total of three points at away matches against Hull , Newcastle and Sunderland will see us safe. Alternatively , 7 points from our next three home matches alone will do it. Problem is... we're not winning matches home or away currently.
