The Solution Is Clear For Russell Martin If He Is To Stay In His Job
at 14:47:13

Bowlercow, remember him ?

Of course I do, he was the physical 6 feet 2 inch centre forward who before exposure to The Premiership had scored a hat full of goals for us with both feet and his head. In addition he could hold a ball up and put other players in. A proper footballer’s footballer who also took a mean penalty.

To summarise , everything that our current crop of forwards unfortunately aren’t.

The Solution Is Clear For Russell Martin If He Is To Stay In His Job
at 13:47:12

You can’t play tippy tappy and expect to win football matches unless pressure is taken off defenders by the forwards scoring goals.

Currently our forwards are simply not good enough to play tippy tappy. Armstrong, Diaz and Archer have only scored 14 Premiership goals between them during their entire careers.

If we keep the same forwards and don’t change our style of play we will be relegated, probably by Christmas at the latest.

My opinion is that if Martin wishes to keep his job he will indeed adopt a more flexible approach.

What I’m not to sure of is does he actually wish to keep his current job ?

Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict
at 13:27:30

Firstly Nick, thanks for a good balanced report.

To your great credit, you have in the past remained positive even when others ( myself included ) commented negatively. This time however I sense that even your patience is running out.

For what it’s worth, in my view our problem this season is split between the method of play and our lack of a proven Premiership goal scorer. Diaz, Archer and Armstrong have previously scored only 14 top flight goals between them and they are not exactly starting out on their careers are they ?

Man City could play tippy football with our forwards and they would be mid table at the very best.

Successful possession based football requires goal scoring chances to be taken. On Saturday both Aribo and Armstrong missed good chances that would have altered the course of the game.

I can’t help but think that the money we have spent in the last window would have been better used in improving the forward line rather than buying endless numbers of midfield players and a goalkeeper.

Conclusion ? We haven’t got good enough forwards to play tippy tappy thus our method of play must change and change quickly.

Will change happen ? Not according to our esteem leader, leaving all of us in for some very miserable times to come at St Mary’s and around the country this season I suspect..

Amazing Nick, you are never backwards at coming forward in condemnation when others have a go at individual Saints players but with Stephens it’s no holds barred for you.

It’s an almost pathological dislike much akin to when you were saying the same about Yoshida.

James Ward Prowse Appears To Have Snubbed A Return ToSouthampton
at 15:00:30

Silly Boy. Chasing money doesn’t always give you what you want.

If he had stayed with us in The Championship as captain for just the one season, he would be playing in The Premiership and on his way to being a Club Legend.

Instead he will probably finish his career at Forest, win nothing and just be a foot note in the history of S F C.

Justin Bijlow Fails Southampton Medical

Well done Sports Republic’s so called management team. Another master class in how not to negotiate the transfer market.

On the same day as Bournemouth are in the process of securing a loan deal for a 29 year old Chelsea keeper who was with Real Madrid last season.

Genuine question. Is there anybody at St Mary’s who has the slightest clue as to how to run and manage a successful Premiership Football Club ? Because at the present every indication appears to be to the contrary.

Southampton V Nottingham Forest The Verdict.

“ It must have been disheartening for the players on the pitch to see the fans leaving in droves, just when they needed them”.

Perhaps they would have remained if they had a centre forward to watch ?

Southampton Sign Portuguese Midfielder
at 09:48:29

Morning ItchenNorth.

Let’s all hope that you are correct and both these “ centre forwards” come good.

If my research is correct Diaz and Archer have scored 10 Premiership goals between them. Diaz at age 25 and Archer at 22. Hardly pulling up trees I think you will agree but it is what it is I suppose.

Reference a keeper, once again I hope you are correct. We will know in ten days time but the omens at present are hardly auspicious and the clock ticks relentlessly.

Southampton Sign Portuguese Midfielder

Every man and his dog can see we need a keeper and a centre forward but no, we spend £15 million pounds ( money we are constantly told the club doesn’t have ) on a twenty year old midfielder with no English league experience whatsoever.

Exactly what planet are our owners, the board and management team on at the moment?

Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict

Don’t worry everyone, this week we will sort out our Premiership goal keeping and goal scoring problems by purchasing yet another midfielder to play in Turkey.

Makes sense to the owners and management and that’s all that matters.

Southampton At Newcastle United The Preview
at 12:30:38

Good summary Nick.

Surely today’s result can’t be worse than when under Ralph we managed to lose 2-1 with Newcastle reduced to nine men at the final whistle ?

Even to this day I can’t comprehend why we allowed Ralph to continue for so long. Home and Away 9-0 defeats, a cup semi final where we didn’t manage one attempt on goal and the longest run of consecutive defeats in the Club’s whole history. Yet we gave him another season which ended in relegation. Total ineptitude by those in charge at board level in my opinion.

How To Open A Fanzone And Keep The Beer Queues Short - The Southampton Way
at 13:19:46

Since we have returned to the supposed Premiership promised land :-

1. My season ticket price was increased by 72%. I relocated to a cheaper area but with a poorer view.

2. Charged £10 for a physical season ticket that I have obtained for “ free” every other season.

3. Turfed out of my car park near Stadium ( Cemex ) previously used by me due to my mobility problems. An alternative at Ocean Village has been suggested but with just 14 days to the opening home game I’ve received no post or email confirmation from the Club whatsoever.

The Club have stopped squeezing the last juice of the Lemon and are now crushing the pips.

Fortunately I don’t partake of alcohol and at the frankly ridiculous price of £6.20 a pint I’m delighted I won’t need to.

Charlie Austin Signs For AFC Totton
at 21:47:35

His late winning goal ( shown above ) against that moaning old bugger Wenger’s Arsenal was my absolute favourite.

Not as good as stuffing them 4-0 on Boxing Day however. In the post match interview he moaned endlessly about the first goal being offside and Shane Long intentionally tripping one of his defenders for the second or third. Truth to tell, Arsenal weren’t at the races from the get go.

Southampton Set To Smash Scottish Transfer Record For Celtic Star
at 11:24:11

Why do we want to spend on a midfielder when Goal scoring wise:-

When he last played in The Premiership Adam Armstrong found it difficult to hit a barn door with a banjo.

Che Adams has departed.

Ross Stewart appears injury prone and is a complete unknown.

The wee man not even training with us.

Shouldn’t we be looking to invest in at least one additional forward, although please not Danny Ings.

Saints Set To Agree Deal With Keeper
at 13:27:59

Mccarthy for all his perceived faults is a far better proper goalkeeper than Bazunu will ever be.

Agreed he struggled with tippy tappy but I’m convinced that Bazunu’s unfortunate injury leading to McCarthy taking his place, is the reason that we are playing in The Premiership next season.

Frankly, he deserves a new contract for his end of season contribution alone.
