Admission before I start - I didn’t want Holloway back. All badge-bashing and no tactics. I would like to see Holloway doing a few things to go with the evident spirit he has created in the camp. We have the badge bashing. First he needs a tactician alongside him, not another badge-basher. He gets the tactics wrong too many times. Sorry Bircham, you can be assistant badge-basher. We need a proper coach. Remember when we have Schteve here with Redknapp - we looked classy and the defence was superb. Second, find a route for the talent that lurks just behind the bench. I’ve seen the ‘senior’ U23’s destroy a few teams this year at a canter, but we have too many of them and not enough trust to bring them into the team. The decent coach (first point) might sort that. So: Holloway to stay, decent coach in. Gives us continuity, and we might get a bit more streetwise. |

Derek Richardson in goal Took over from Phil Parkes Just reflect on that for a moment Marc Nygaard gets a shout - ran the whole length of the pitch with his shirt off to shout at the ref and get sent off |

Loanees all seemed to have a fairly crap weekend, but maybe one or two gems in there - think Comley could be pushing next season. He and Furlong should be back with last 5 games to go and used as subs. Petrasso, El Khayati, Washington, Luongo, Kpekawa, Robinson, Gladwin are all (probably) here for next season so should be featuring. Can see Doughty doing the same as Ehmer, enjoying first team football a rung down and staying with it. Not sure about the likes of Manning - due a loan next season? |

Its the last wasted decade of mis-management at all levels of the club coming home to roost. At some point it all had to grind down into the most abject mediocrity, and we're here. Youth development, salary structures, long-term plan, facilities, coaching, fitness - its all in there. Football club management 101 stuff, ignored. Look - we're not getting turned over week in week out, we're actually not far away from upper mid table anonymity. Its not like the darkest days, slipping limp into League One. We'll shift one or two and add one or two in this window and survive. Its just so galling that once again its a massive clear-out and replacement job over the Summer (and jeez we've wasted some Summers too). JFH is the right man, we've just got to hang on for this season. There are some simple fixes, we just need to avoid the bad habits of old. A big if. But at least we've ditched the ridiculous objective of getting into the play-offs that perpetuated them for the majority of this season. It took over a decade to get into this mess, it will take over a decade to get out of it. Long haul. No point in getting depressed about it now. |

Like I said further up the thread Clive, the owners have created a culture of instant gratification amongst many of our supporters. Giving wads of dosh to a succession of managers has made us salivate at the prospect of every transfer window - clear out the last lot that didn't work, get in a new lot that have to work immediately - or next window, they're out. The Polter barracking is the unfortunate consequence. Right now, we should be cheering every ounce of confidence into him. He's a bloody hero. This window it wouldn't bother me if we bought no-one but just trimmed the squad down best we can- and said to Polter, you're the new Number 9. Go and do your best. |

I think he could be very good. Needs a stable supply, which is a whole other debate, but he puts himself about, and yesterday looked like one of the few who cared. Could - played for the rest of the season - turn out to be a damn good buy. Too many people following this club have the same need for instant gratification as the owners. It's become infectious. He needs encouragement and some good coaching (LF and JFH should be able to teach him a thing or two) - not a continual barracking for not being Charlie Austin. |

Upper-mid table With some youth team players breaking through some talent spotted in the lower leagues, a manager we're likley to see here in three years' time, some signs of progress with the youth structure and the right football philosophy at every level of the club. Seemingly an insane view of ther world. |

Only candidate for me - not sacked for cocking it up or being a loon (totally insane removal at Brentford), knows Championship, plays football the right way, identifies emerging talent, brings on younger players - give him a five year contract and leave him alone to get on with it |

Saw them at Southampton Uni in 1983 - awesome - and several times over five years after that |
