Saints Linked With Move For Ex Player From West Ham
at 10:48:26

I guess this depends on which players are lined up to leave the club in the coming days, on current form I wouldn't be disappointed if Edozie, Smallbone and Aribo, amongst others, were loaned or sold.
The bigger issue for me is whether we actually saw the best of JWP a couple of years or so ago, with Dibling, Lallana and the recently signed midfielders all likely to be starters I'd prefer to see Fraser back on loan I think.

Southampton Still Have Two Irons In The Fire For A Goalkeeper
at 15:04:35

If Bijlow is the all round keeper that his record suggests then he should be snapped up asap. However, I wouldn't necessarily agree that 8m a year for Ramsdale is crazy money. If Ramsdale comes on loan and keeps us clear of relegation then it doesn't seem too much to pay.

Southampton Put In BId For Feyenoord Keeper
at 18:58:40

Great news, after all of the speculation about Ramsdale etc the owners seem to have discovered a potential gem under the radar.
I'm as guilty as most supporters when signings don't materialise on demand, we all know AM's limitations, but we never know what hard work is being done behind the scenes to recruit players.
I think we can all be very hopeful that a new keeper is on the way in the near future. Phew.

Vacancy- Ball Playing Goalkeeper Wanted Apply St Mary's Stadium
at 11:32:09

Media outlets elsewhere suggesting that Wolves have offered Arsenal a loan, with option to buy, offer for Ramsdale could be an issue. However, my opinion of Ramsdale is that whilst he is a better keeper than McCarthy he is little or no better with the ball at his feet. I'm hoping that there is a deal in place to sign Sam Johnstone on the basis of his all round game.
The essential factor is that AM doesn't have the ability to play in goal, at this level, as a first choice selection.

Kyle Walker-Peters Situation Is Win Win Says Russell Martin
at 11:12:50

I'd say most supporters would prefer KWP to stay and only he knows why he wants to move to another club. In my view he could adapt to a midfield role and negate the need to overspend on O'Riley who is unproven outside of a decidedly less competitive league.
Regardless of the outcome with KWP I can't shake off my anxieties about the seeming inevitability of having McCarthy or Lumley in goal for the initial games. Whilst being fairly optimistic that the club is trying to recruit a truly competent goalkeeper failure to do so is not a viable option.

Southampton Hold Talks with Goalkeeper
at 16:20:09

I'm very much with Bowlercow on this, Sam Johnson is available for transfer and I'm struggling to understand why he wouldn't be a top priority signing. If the club preference is to sign a keeper on loan awaiting Bazunu's return to fitness then in my view the strategy is wrong.

Southampton V Lazio The Verdict
at 11:08:06

I'm hardly in a position to give advice to professional players but in McCarthy's case I'd say just hoof the ball into touch if you're under pressure. With Lis and Lumley the only other senior goalkeepers on the books it's hardly likely you're going to get dropped for not following the passing game edict.
On the other hand the club could just sign a top class 'keeper in the days ahead and put us out of our misery.

Southampton Looking To Get Players In And Out Before Season Starts
at 10:50:37

I'm sure most of us have a list of players surplus to requirements janecook, I'd certainly add a few to your list. However, as Nick has already pointed out, it's difficult to move on players in the middle of lucrative contracts.
Add into the mix players who won't move unless their existing contracts are paid up and clubs unwilling to meet player valuations and the market grinds to a halt.
Should we find ourselves sufficiently fortunate to acquire O'Riley and Carvalho, and a quality goalkeeper please, that adds to the wage bill and also the glut of non featuring players at the club. The only answer can be loan moves, almost certainly subsidised, because several current players have very little future at SFC other than meeting their contract obligations.
Wage considerations will frequently be an issue because we have signed too many players with potential rather than proven ability and if that potential doesn't meet expectation the asset becomes a liability.

Saints Back In For Liverpool Attacker First Bid Turned Down
at 11:34:20

It concerns me when Russell Martin says "I love the group of players I'm working with, they give us absolutely everything". My problem with that statement being that, quite clearly, several players have reached a peak of achievement and ongoing verbal and emotional support from the manager will not improve their performance. I believe Gareth Southgate was also over supportive of players who gave everything but were under performing at the top level, we can't afford the same mistake.
I think we all know the areas of critical weakness in the team and the manager's judgement shouldn't be clouded by loyalty or sentiment. The indications are that two or three players may still be incoming but surely they must be shoe in starters in critical areas and not additional squad members with potential?
Carvalho and O'Riley are both on the wish list, plus a top level goalkeeper, but if none of the rumoured players are signed I can't see how the drive to move up a level can be inspired by simple back patting from the manager.

Southampton Agree Terms For Striker Deal Imminent
at 10:58:52

I think this could be a very astute signing if it comes to fruition. I've read comments elsewhere about Saints lack of ambition and unwillingness to spend big on players, as though the money spent on Sulemana, Onuachu etc hadn't already limited the funds available.
In this case I'm delighted to see investment in a potential match winner with a decent goal scoring record. Brereton-Diaz for me every time, compared to the likes of Broja for three times the outlay and proven inability to hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
I'd also be surprised if the Ryan Fraser transfer saga wasn't now totally on the back burner.

West Brom Striker On Southampton Radar
at 14:05:39

I presume that this is an attempt by the owners to prove without doubt that you can't buy a Ferrari with Fiat money?
Sadly we also seem to have paid other clubs for Ferraris not realising that they were selling Fiats. Any clubs out there interested in our range of pre owned, low mileage, Fiats? The squad does seem bloated with players who aren't going to be much involved this year.

Southampton Announce New Shirt Sponsors
at 18:41:25

Too much to hope that the new shirt sponsor would have a more ethical background and not be associated with the social harm attached to the gambling industry.
I know that virtually every potential sponsor is likely to have some problems with any number of ethical issues but I certainly don't want to buy a shirt with a Rollbit logo.

Russell Martin Has To Target Three Crucial Experienced Signings
at 11:20:54

We've still got the strange situation where Mateusz Lis is playing for Goztepe, I believe he has played 31 games, conceded 18 goals and kept 20 clean sheets.
Whilst it's difficult to make comparisons between different leagues those are the sort of goalkeeping stats our incumbents can only dream of, never mind signing Jason Steele from Brighton.
It was said some while ago that he had work permit problems, if that is unresolvable there seems no point in keeping him on the books.
I thought Downes signing was going to be quick and easy but seems to be anything but at present. Adams doesn't appear to be going anywhere too quickly but I guess he's no longer on the wage bill. Ross Stewart is either going to get fit to play regularly or be a complete write off. I'd like to be optimistic but sadly I can't see him coping with the pace of the game at top level, equally so Danny Ings who surely can't play a full game given his age and fitness issues.
We've also got Mara who has talent but shows no sign of getting to the next level required.
Early days but there's an awful lot of transfer activity required before the season kicks off.

Southampton Said To Have Agreed Terms With Brazilian Defender
at 11:50:43

RM surely won't consider Jack Stephens as a viable left back at the top level? He did a decent job when needed in that position but he'd be toast without constant support from the likes of Fraser dropping back to cover. Even though Ryan Manning has always given 100% we all know his limitations.
Charlie Taylor looks to be an astute signing with loads of experience however, even if now fit, Juan Larios is going to potentially need a season out on loan to rebuild his game.
Apart from the stuff available via Google etc it's impossible to know if Welington is a shoo in to the team but I'm not surprised that we're looking at another left back even if Taylor is a starter next season.

West Ham United Linked With Southampton Defender
at 12:16:05

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment of what you're saying AmericanSaint surely there is a bigger picture, as has already been posted?
Having limited resources we can't afford to offer bucket loads of money to KWP without causing problems in the dressing room, there has to be a wage structure. KWP may feel that he has more chance of returning to the England squad with WHU, now that Walker is due for replacement. He may also have have a verbal agreement to seek a new club in return for not pushing for a move last summer? Who knows, I don't.
In respect of Downes, regardless of his PL experience, we know exactly what we're getting. I haven't seen any aspect of his game that raises alarm bells concerning stepping up a level. Ings contract runs until 2025, is he likely to take a pay cut or run down his lucrative wages sitting on the bench? My feeling is he'll stay put because there's no reason to move, unless WHU want to subsidise a free transfer.
I'm with Bowlercow on this, if there's a replacement lined up and KWP is unsettled let him go.

Southampton And Tottenham Negotiating Player Plus Cash Swap Deal
at 11:21:23

I'm sure many supporters will disagree but for me this looks like a good deal all round. Alcaraz has loads of talent but isn't disciplined or mature enough to alter his game to suit RM's style of play. Whilst his flair and exuberance are a pleasure to watch it is also frustrating to see him lose possession in key areas.
Rodon offers almost the opposite in being a mature, steady influence less likely to give away possession. If we want to win games then Rodon is a better player to have in the squad.

I'm delighted to see scant negativity on the posts concerning AL signing up for the season ahead. In my view worth every penny, considering the experience, motivation and coaching he can offer both new signings and the emerging young players.
As has been said already, he may not play too many games but his influence is going to be priceless.
