... and he's better on the left side, but that belongs to Chair now.

A bit of perspective please!
at 17:47 12 Jan 2025

Except in older fans minds the FA Cup clearly doesn't have the rep it once did. As a 76 year-old, I wish that it did, but I'm afraid that bird has flown. Younger fans, players and — especially — overseas coaches don't see it that way, especially in the top two divisions. It's very sad, but I don't think it's going to change.

At the risk of stating the obvious football is a team game. That's the context. Mistakes/catastrophes happen but digging out individuals serves no purpose. Yesterday we had a defence, and back-up keeper, who'd never played together as a unit. The visibility was appalling which certainly didn't help. We also have injuries to key players back there so Marti had to make some tough choices. Did he get it wrong? Perhaps, but that'll happen sometimes and, frankly, I'm not sure I'd have risked Dunne, Fox or Nardi yesterday either given the volatility of the Championship.

Of course if we win we'll immediately be fretting about stretching ourselves too thin if we go on a Cup run.

"We’ve been conditioned to expect it. Like Pavlov’s dog, if Pavlov had booted it in the bollocks every time a plastic ball with ‘32’ written on it was drawn out of a little velvet bag."

It's on Sportsnet at 5:00pm Pacific Time (not sure of other regions) here in Canada.

I guess I won't be around here tomorrow as I'd rather not know the score beforehand.

Also human interactions with cows are likely to be more numerous than their interactions with sharks. (Though I don't have the stats to prove it!)

He's no secret. I'm sure his manager/agent fields inquiries all the time. But, I'm also pretty sure, he's no Michael "Mick" Beale. I'm guessing he'll want to improve his resumé with us in the next three years. That would ideally mean promotion, or playoffs, if he wants to take a serious step up in his career.

A nitpicker replies:

Arguably Division 1 of the Southern League was at least equal in quality to Div 2 of the Football League pre WW1. We finished 9th that year, a point behind West Ham and Brighton. Brum, OTOH, were sandwiched between Grimsby and Huddersfield tied for 14th in the FL's second division.

He has every skill except pace and movement off the ball. There's just no room on MC's QPR for players who lack those qualities, and sadly he does. Too bad. He can place a ball on a sixpence from one side of the pitch to the other. Unfortunately that's not enough.

I wonder what's happened to Lucas Andersen too. Age? Injuries? ...?

New Year transfer window rumours

I certainly wouldn't write Larkeche off, but we require someone else too and Fox isn't it, though he can do the job defensively. We need a LB with enough speed and passing ability to feed and support Chair.

On TV it looked probable the lino didn't see it. He was kinda bent over looking along the line, and Smyth's head was turned back and toward the point of impact.

Today we looked as if we have real depth in personnel, maybe for the first time this season. All the subs fit in well, none seemed as if they were just there to kill off the match. At this point in the season it's very encouraging, and — dare I say it — bodes well.
