23rd April, St George’s Day
at 08:04 24 Apr 2020

England created the modern world (17C on) as we know it in many ways good and bad. Essentially trade on a scale never seen before. Nation of shopkeepers said Napoleon, meaning all business and no philosophy underpinning. He was wrong on that.

It's very easy to celebrate a nation's flag day when you're the underdog, never had a chance and all that bollocks. If you are English, there is lots to consider and reflect on, and feel glad about without hoisting the St G flag.

St. George's Day was never ever a thing in the first place. We live in the weird arrangement that is the UK/Great Britain/Great Britain and NI where England has dominated and infantalised Scotland, Wales and Ireland for near a thousand years. Oh, and then the Empire. Which was triffic btw.

Given all that, I ask the Q, when asked in KL, Cape Town, Santiago or LA where are you from, what do you say?

If you feel the need to wave any silly flag and think that's worthwhile then go for it. As a patriot in my own way, we English smacked the ball way out of the park in so many ways, and hopefully have learned from it.

I wanna hug you fella. Any knot can be loosened.

Have watched football all my life and really, you got the wrong end of the stick. You really have. It's not like you say it is. I mean really. We can all not be in the profession we should be and you are one. C'mon, try something else.

Bingo! 12000 miles away and gets it.

Put any money we have in the pitch. Make it the best. Then the stands. I'm such a sucker for wanting the town to look nice. The Matheson story we can do again and again given the will.

Yeah, whatever, we will stay up this year, and in other years we might well have gone down, and straight to non-league. Let's grasp the opportunity.

You're a dream Kiwi. I love you.

Fitz et al, c'mon lads, c'mon, football is an escape, or was. A daft way to earn a living and and more so to talk about. Wake up!! The Prem has gone, but there is fun in this yet ffs!

Who said it was 'random'? Random? The very last thing. Care and planning and huge doses of luck make success.

If it so awful to watch then do not go. You are not obliged you know. F**k it. Do something else.

C'mon fella. Whoever suggested structure or stability wasn't required? Structure is exactly what is required. That is what a great manager establishes. Infects the board too, as is natural. Look at Klopp, and indeed Hill in our own small way. BBM, and I don't know the guy, seems to have the beginnings of an understanding about the holistic approach. Ferguson got the whole thing from Day One at Utd.

So much talk of what to do with our millions accrued from cup runs and transfers. If there is any spare, I say spend it on the pitch. You can't even start without a playing surface.

Your words. (You have a way with 'em btw.) Read 'em again back to yourself. Slowly.

Dunno. Ask Klopp. Or Busby. Pick 11 stand up guys and be one yourself. That's your lot in sport. It's the analysis that kills.

No. No, I don't. I think you draw parallels, as if it were an academic drawing, between one essentially unknowable and another. Sport not like that.

Goddamit Shun, you're right! We're all being taken for that ride. Football is freaking tedious, esp. as all we talk about is money, cost of players, wages of managers, contracts, real estate and all that. The Prem is awful, CL the same, L1 just a minor cousin and the patronising media coverage like eating your own knees. Why the hell do we bother?

Next year in L1, yes I think we'll be there, is gonna be tougher than ever. Enjoy it lads, c'mon!!! Four decades in the basement before that and lots of fellow travellers have hit the dust.

I have zero idea if BBM REALLY knows what he is doing, or Bottomly for that matter. Neither do you. Let's keep our peepers open, do what we can and enjoy the ride! UP THE DALE!
