Just read the Walesonline article about the owners failing to cough up 300k up front for O'Riley and 1.2 in 4 terms. As well as pulling the plug on a deal for Ryan Longman........

Transferwindow done: A positive look to the future
at 07:57 1 Feb 2022

Well, that was an underwhelming end to our transfer deadline day.
It once more became clear that our finances are tight and players need to be sold before we can make any investment. The signing of Ogbeta does offer a glimpse of hope for the future. Just like other clubs did successfully in the past, the scouting department should look at the lower leagues for cut-price targets and hidden gems. Of course this does not guarantee a play-off place every season, and i'm afraid will have to wait a very long time before we become competitive once again, it does represent a stable business model.

Regarding our current ingoing/outgoing ratio: it seems like we are now having a very thin squad, making it likely that any injury in our first 11 will cause a sharp decline in quality.
The singing of Fisher seems a little bit unnecessary, seeing how tight for cash we actually are. As for the rest of our transfer dealings, they seem quite sensible. Some people forget that although our current squad is lacking depth. We do have a lot of players out on loan, and more importantly, they are impressing out on loan. Well Garrick and Ollie certainly have impressed and Cullen and Whittaker have shown glimps already. We lack some attacking depth, but seeing these four return next season could give us some extra options up front. Or they could be moved on a permanent basis to free up some funds to invest.

I hope we can finish this season on a relative high and lay the foundation for next season.
Still I fear the summer transfer window. I'm afraid one or two high profile players (you know who I am talking about, downes grimes piroe, and maybe Pato/Ntcham) need to be moved on in order to finance newer deals. Still I would much rather hang on to those 4 (or 3 if Pato decides to play hardball) and do with minimal investments coming summer window. Get our loanees back and some cut price additions, and we should be able to compete:)

Linked to ogbeta. Could this still happen? Let’s hope so.

Actually recommended him a few days ago.

Good talent with only 6 months on his contract left

Funny how people don’t seem to rate scott fraser. I read the same articles and got my doubts. But je performed well at MK dons.

These reactions remind me when we announced Paterson. No good record for the previous seasons, and look at how he performed the past 4 months.

I would be glad to see Scott Fraser as a replacment for Paterson. There is surely some potential, and for this season we got Wolf and Ntcham so no worries if he struggles to make an impact immediatly.

Other news, Swans reportedly turned down two bids from QPR for Paterson.
Would they match the requried fee, I hope we can still get the deal for scott fraser over the line in time.

Scott Fraser, has his issues of his own, but still a couple of years younger and avalaibe for a lesser fee than we would paterson let go for.

Alan Nixon on twitter: Manchester City. Morgan Rogers will head back from loan at Bournemouth. Lack of game time. Scramble to take him elsewhere now … worth the chase.

Could be chased be Swansea i would say:)

Fancy some Quin(o)a? Tricky winger/Attacking mid incoming
at 10:49 27 Jan 2022

Footbal insider reports that watford are set to recall Quina from Fulham and are ready to loan him out to the Swans.

Hope this goes trough. Watched some highlights and seems like a tricky and fast winger.
Not sure if he fits in high pressing style of Russel Martin but we are in need of some pace and trickery up front.

" The midfielder has struggled for game time at Craven Cottage, having made just four appearances since his move and been included in just one squad since October.

At that time, Fulham boss Marco Silva questioned the player's work rate and said that he needed to put in more of an effort in training in order to work his way back into the team, saying: “Domingos has to work harder to win back his place."

From watfordobserver article, already look like a Obafemi situation:)

Keith any info on this possible move?

Is Scott Fraser the man for Swansea City ? The player in depth
at 14:09 25 Jan 2022

Saw a fee rumoured to be around 250K. If so, bring him in, nice to have some bodies in, could be a useful squad player in the coming years.

Still bit worried about his attitude, and the fact that he has not been able to impress in this ipswich squad

Obafemi out?

Ofcourse, still i’m always afraid if someone deletes all Posts related to their club. Hope you can ask your sources for info in Obafemi.

Think he got beter everytime he was subbed on, so would be said to see him go, even if on loan.

Obafemi out?
at 19:32 22 Jan 2022

Well another painful situation looming. Apparantly Michael Obafemi was sent down the tunnel early today by one of the coaching staff after being not subbed on instead of Kyle Joseph and has now deleted all his Swans related Insta posts..

Another one out?

Really can’t use this at the moment….

Well, I can forget about Tom Lawrence;)
According to football insider QPR and Bournemouth are trying to sign him on a cheap.
Apart from their better league position they will also be able to match his rumoured 27k a week.

But as suggested here, we should take a look at their squad seeing their finanical struggles.
Milwall have already tried to sign Louis Sibley, but saw an offer of 450k rebuffed. Could the Swans try to surpass this offer and sign him? He would certainly fit in the current system, and if Paterson would be to leave, it could be a direct re-investement of these funds into a young permanent signing.

The young fullback Ebolse, mentioned in this thread would also certainly fill the gap we currently have in the fullback/wingback position.

The only other player I would consider is jason knight, another young midfielder we could use in a more attacking position.

Hope our clubscouts are reading this, because I think a move for louie Sibley would be a wise investment on a cut price deal:)))))

Paterson's price?
at 16:07 20 Jan 2022

Agree mate. Every story has two sides. His recent performances certainly gave reason to increase his wages. And if our club was in a different financial situation we would maybe have given him a pay raise. But taking into account that we picked him up after his future was up in the air, i think he could be satisfied with the extension as it was, with possibly contract negotiations in the summer.

From Russel martins press conference it certainly seemed like his agents have influenced him in his decision to go on “strike”.

I hope he can return and show the fan base that he once again is commited to the club. But even of he returns i’m afraid he will go in the summer.

As for the rumoured price. 500k is peanuts for a team like WBA, who will bring him in as a backup player. So seems likely that he will move on this transfer window.

The odds on Scott Twine? If we can't cough up 1.5 mil for O'Riley we surely can't afford Scott Twine:)
Scully would be nice but Keith recently suggested he might be off to Preston I believe.

Regarding the whole Paterson situation. I would actually like him to stay, just so we have some creativity left in case of injuries to Ntcham or Wolf. Still, If he stays this january, he will most certainly be out in the summer transfer window, as the relationship with our fans already seems to be ruined

Paterson's price?
at 14:42 20 Jan 2022

Martin revealed that the owners stance is quite straight forward.
Clubs keen?
The owners have made their stance really clear. If he’s still our player in two weeks I'll be really happy.
Owners' stance?
Everyone has a price. We gave Pato a chance in the summer and extended his contract to give him more security. That’s where we’re at.

So that leaves the question, what is his price you think? Still 1.5 year to go on his current contract.

(Such a shame that O'riley is now moving to Celtic, Paterson funds could maybe be the key factor for meetign the release clause)

Tom Lawrence?
Seeing Derby's financial struggles and their recent sale of Shinnie for a mere 30K. Swans could jump on this opportunity to make Lawrence a permanent signing, instead of Mcatee on loan. Would be a cut price deal.

State of current transfer window. Which squad issue to be adressed and how?19/01
at 14:53 19 Jan 2022

A things stand, this window can be regarded as a reality check for many.
At the start of january I was expecting at least two or three permanent signings, desired by Russell Martin. It currently looks like only Fisher well head in on a permanent deal. As O'Riley (definitely off, and heading to celtic) and Darling deal are almost 100 percent off.
I think the owners should have backed the club in a 1.5 mill bid for O'Riley. An investment that was likely to pay off. But reading many report that we are skint, and unless paterson and fulton go for a substantial fee, I can't see us getting any more permanent deals over the line. Therefor I think the following is more likely to happen:

IN:
Hannes Wolff :(CAM)(Loan) Getting Hannes Wolf in can be regarded as a big scoop, although the jury remains out on his ability since his injury apparently.
CB (Loan) Hopefully we can add a replacement for Rhys Williams to the squad. Doesn't need to be permanent. As I rather see, Brandon Cooper and Cabango develop alongside Manning and/or Naughton. (Darling would have been nice but seeing our tight financial situation I would focus on a LWB/LB)
Leftback/Leftwingback (Permanent): Altough Manning can operate on the leftback position. I would like to see us go for a young leftwingback on a permanent deal.
I'm suggesting Nathanael Ogbeta from Shrewsbury. Maybe Keith can advise his contact to take a look at this leftwingback who is great going forward.
Striker (Loan): I guess we may need a more physical forward to support Piroe.
Obafemi is progressing everytime I see him get on the pitch. But my feeling is that he is more suited to the role of winger/attacking mid. instead of a pinchhitter.
Out:
Paterson: Was shocked when I read the news about his contract dispute. Seems set to depart. Well can only hope we receive some cash we can reinvest into the squad.
Fulton: Only saw rumours about a loan deal so far. really hoping to see him go on a permanent deal. Frees up funds for addings players to the squad.
Dhanda: Likely on a free and with a sell on clause like byers?

Short conclusion on window so far:
Seeing Bidwell go was quite sad. Always a decent player who gave his best.
Releasing all these players was supposedly done to generate funds for deals.
But current reports suggests that we may not see many permanent deals getting done.
Relying on loans is nice when we are battling for promotion but for our current position and this being a "rebuild" season I would much rather see some permanent deals, even if these players are of less quality, but can improve.

On a positive note, almost all our players out on loan, seem to be doing a great job. Next season our squad could well be stocked with much more matured players. just don't hope we sell Piroe or Downes in the summer to cover our operations and new transfer deals.
