Gary Jones 11:20 - Jun 22 with 10467 views | leedsdale | Just had official text through to say he is leaving the club on 30th June. The times they are a changing! EDIT: Assuming that Coleman has someone who has agreed to join as a replacement [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Gary Jones on 12:32 - Jun 22 by Toffeemanc | If Kennedy is sold and i think it could happen, then it is very likely that there won't be any of the players from the promotion season left for the start of next season as I think it is widely accepted that both Holness and Thompson don't figure in Colemans plans. |
Thompson wouldn't have been offered a deal if that was the case. Jones has been a great representative for the club over the years and maybe a new club will suit him at this stage in his career. It's probably the best move for all concerned.

The club certainly has an empty feel at the moment, losing Jones was always going to do that, but no room for sentiment, his best times were probably behind him after our first year in L1, and in the same breathe I applaud JC for having the balls to do it.

Gary Jones on 13:02 - Jun 22 with 2140 views | IOMDale | Can only agree with what's already been said. Felt as though Jonah was dragging the whole club along with him at times during his two spells. I'm certain I'll have missed a few names off here, but this gives you an idea of what positions need filling (pending a possible influx on 1st July): Lillis, Edwards Cavanagh, Bennett, Holness*, Minihan, Jordan*, Twaddle*, Edwards Kennedy, Tutte, BBM+, Watson, Thompson+ Abadaki, Donnelly, Gray, Grimes* * Don't seem to be in plans + Yet to re-sign [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Gary Jones on 11:39 - Jun 22 by leedsdale | Couldnt have worded it better myself. Even if BBM signs we need another central midfielder, a left back, a winger or two and a striker (assuming that the two Edwards' sign up) |
I guess we'll find out in the next ten days or so who JC has got lined up, so there's no need to panic just yet. But the comparison with other clubs is a little unnerving. For instance, everyone's least favourite manager Steve Evans is sounding off about the players he's shipped out and the nine new signings he's made already. And good luck to Jonah (except if he tuns out against Dale). We'll probably not see his like again.

Now Jones has gone it seem like the heart has been ripped out of the squad. As dramatic as that sounds, I think that his immense contribution to the club over the years will be remembered for a long long time. Anyway, things have changed, and for Jonah, to move on now is probably a wise decision. It will take a little time to rebuild, but I am looking forward to a strong core of players in the squad that can give us something to cheer about. Good luck Jonah and many thanks for your services to the club. Like others have said, a true Dale legend.

I would say its 99% certain we need look no further than our new right back as captain tbh!!! Shame no coaching role for Jonah but its clear JC and Bell dont rate him in plans. Good luck GJ!!!

Gary Jones on 13:39 - Jun 22 with 1959 views | SalwaDale | For us to have any chance of progress under Coleman then he has to have complete control and the chance to make his own squad. I am glad that it is Jones going rather than Coleman and I think it very possibly had to be one of them going. Jones is an absolute Dale legend and I too would be happy to name him as Rochdale's Grestest Ever Player. However, time to move on and this gives us a chance to build a new team - and we need that. I hope we see Jonah back at Spotland in some capacity one day to get the reception he deserves. Onwards and upwards. I am slowly beginning to get excited for next season but we just now need to see the new signings and a few more players shipped out prior to pre-season.

What makes everyone so sure that Jones would've accepted a coaching role even had he been offered one? Agree with whats been said about Jonah. Fantastic player and club legend, however the decision for him to leave I'm sure is best for both parties.
Gary Jones on 13:43 - Jun 22 with 1936 views | D_Alien | Thanks for all the hard work and great memories Jonah. It was your performance at Southampton - surging run to put COG in forthe first goal, and the sweetest strike to seal a stunning victory, that epitomised the transformation of Dale from perennial strugglers to over-achievers. Best of luck, except v Dale!

Gary Jones on 12:14 - Jun 22 by 100notout | But he was still under contract? Have we sold him or come to a mutual release agreement? I'm confused Oh heywoodale - where have you been this last year! - this has been his testimonial year with events held to raise money for him e.g. Chinese night |
I realise that there have been events this year for him. Was merely asking whether there was likely to be a testimonial game and given that he is now leaving, it would be an ideal way to show our appreciation and say goodbye properly.

Not calling Jonah but recent history shows that when he has been missing we have never struggled. Not saying we're stronger without him but merely that we have never looked weaker when he has been absent. Anyway, it can't possibly be as unnerving as having some Glaswegian fraudsters sniffing round the club surely?!

I'm sorry to say but yeah it is very well possible or MK Dons would not be a reality today or even have that massive smaller version of the emerites stadium we'll find out the truth if/when Rangers are voted out of the SPL P.S. Banned4ever your post is in the wrong thread

No. I do know, however, that there is a lot of mischief making going on north of the border. Sadly, your tinpot club is safe. Well, from Rangers at least...

A better question would be "Do you really think anybody on this board even gives a f%*k what goes on at Giggle lane" ?

Gary Jones on 14:44 - Jun 22 with 1652 views | kirbys | I was lucky enough to have seen Sir Reg Jenkins perform his wonderful stuff in his prime. I never thought I would witness another player to show such passion and loyalty over many seasons until Gary Jones came along. I doubt anyone cared as much about winning (or losing)as Gary and I doubt we will ever see that passion again. Worry about what comes afterwards once we have all recorded our gratitude as fans for an extraorinary servant to Rochdale F.C. Good luck Gary and look forward to your visit with Bradford when we can pay our own tribute to you as only Dale fans can.
