Who, of the squad would you want to keep going into next season in (most probably, now) L2. Coleman needs to overhaul this squad, and put his stamp on it, make it his, end of the day these players aren't good enough, no fight, no interest a lot of them, of the squad id only keep:

Jordan (18 month contract, unless he gets paid off)
Thompson (maybe)
Jones
Kennedy (be very lucky to keep him though)
BBM
Lucas
JLAA
Widdowson

The likes of Tutte/Adams/Grimes will be on the phones to their agents now looking for a move, we need a fresh start, the bulk of these arent up to it.

Very difficult to say. JC needs to know which players are fully behind him. Those that are can stay, those that aren't can go. The reason we did so well under Hill was that everyone bought into his beliefs, and if they didn't they were moved on very quickly. I'm sure Coleman will get the same.

Adams is suited to Dale. And I think he probably realises it.

Jones and Jordan have deals, both should be squad players next season. Obviously they'll keep their shirt if they come in and do well.

Grimes and Tutte have been discussed at length. If they stay we have to try and get something out of them and see if potential equals saleable assets.

Kennedy: hasn't he got a year left? Offer him another one now on improved terms. Again, he's suited to Dale. As well as he's played recently, he'll never meet the expectations of a big club. If he' enjoys his football and we continue to do right by him, he could make hundreds of appearances at Dale.

Keep Widdowson and sign Darby and we've two decent fullbacks. Give Kev 1 a deal, Kev 2 will be a regular at Burnley. Lucas as a reserve keeper is worth another year too. JLAA has done well enough to get a deal too.

Get rid of BBM, Holden, Twaddle, Thompson, Holness (sadly).

I hope the players don't read this. Whilst it is still mathematically possible to stay up I want every player to do their best. Not sure discussing their demise when we are in this predicament will help. Just my view

The players MUST know their own status within the Club already without the fans own view on the matter.....

The ones who are frozen out know their days here are numbered....let's face it we still have a bit of dross within our ranks.

The players i'd keep for our promotion chase next year would have to be:

Grimes
Tutte
JK
Jones
Adams
JLAA
Widdowson
Darby(if possible)
Amankwaah
Holden
Kurucz (same as darby)
Thompson (has just scraped in with recent form, suggesting he could be coming of age)

there we have the start of a squad which with the right additions would push for promotion in league two and hold its weight in league one.

After last night, the only player I would try and keep is Jason Kennedy. The rest of them are simply not good enough...

Where's Fred?

i don't believe retaining as little players as possible is the right thing to do, sweetcorn is on the right lines IMO thats if tutte grimes adams etc want to stay

we still haven't replaced COG successfully, what makes people think the club would be able to afford 10/12 new additions in the summer.

with the budgets automatically being lowered with an impeding season in league 2

I've had a look at the list I have of players contracts and here who I think is out of contract this summer:

Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro
Kevin Amankwaah
Brian Barry-Murphy
Matty Edwards
Simon Hackney
Dean Holden
David Lucas
Joe Thompson
Joe Widdowson

I think I'd offer new contracts to JLAA, Kev Amankwaah, Dean Holden, David Lucas (as goalkeeping coach and back up keeper) and Joe Widdowson.

I'd release BBM, Edwards, Hackney (unless he comes in soon as really performs), and definitely Joey T.

If Marc Twaddle isn't up to getting in the side then we need to come to some arrangement to release him from his contract. Why pay someone about a grand and not play him? I have Marcus Holness as being contracted having signed a new deal last January, otherwise he'd be first on my released list.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

I really hope we release thompson simply so he can go away to a new club, with a fresh start with some new fans, who may appreciate him. maybe then he'll realise his talent and all the ones on here, will have egg on their faces.

I think that Thompson will go to Barnsley. I would be looking at releasing everyone apart from Kev and possibly Widdowson, although I would not offer him a great wage as he has been a bit dodgy recently. We need to build a new team with a bit of pace and a squad with more forward players.

I am concerned that Kennedy will be sold as he will be on a decent wage and is too good for League 2 and that we will be carrying Jones on £2,000 a week as a poorly supported League 2 club (if we get relegated, obviously). I assume that in the contracts relegation equals a wage reduction of a certain percentage?

But, he's been with us for seven seasons now and is still not deemed good enough to start on a regular basis. He's predominantly used as a winger, yet can't get in the eleven now ahead of Adams and JLAA. This has been the case all the time he's been here. He's never been a regular starter and hasn't progressed as a footballer much in the past three years.

If he wasn't a Rochdale lad and hadn't come up through the ranks, he'd have been released by now like we've seen with the likes of Adam Rundle and Kallum Higginbotham among others.

He's not a young prospect anymore, he's nearly in his mid twenties and needs to progress a lot more than he is doing.

as much as id like to see Joe progress i dont think hes anywhere near championship quality ...hes barely a decent league 2 player...no consistency ,too easily loses in a challenge, languid, inactive too much rather than pro active seems to freewheel too often.

its his main attribute, his aerial ability, and should be playing up top if anywhere, was a great looping header.

To be fair, he was a fairly regular starter on the wing during the hillcroft tenure, i'd go as far as saying he started the most games than any other winger under Hill. Although i agree he has been quite poor up until now, when he's been given a fairly new role, i have seen enough from him in the last few games to know he has the club at heart and will run for the cause as long as he's on the pitch, so in my eyes, he's good enough to keep, even if only for a squad player.

Has enough ability to be a good player, just needs some encouragement which isn't going to happen here at rochdale and i wouldn't blame him for leaving.

Naturally it depends on which division we are in, the problems as we look at it now are creating and scoring goals and that's been obvious all season (except v bury)

I think there will be interest in Grimes over the summer we may have to accept he will move on and we wont be able to keep hold of Darby.

If you think Lucas is going to accept a contract staying as number two in league two on a number 2s wage, you must be mad!! Budget slashes, our number two will be on a cut wage.

Hackney should be kept if he can prove his fitness, he can certainly do a job in league 2!!! JLAA, Widdowson, Holden must stay.

I'd keep him too. I can't think of many players who are happy as a squad player and can come in and do a job every so often (which he certainly will be able to do in L2).

Was thinking about this during the Sheff Wed game, and it made me realise how poor our current crop of contracted players are at the club.

Realistically, there is only JK that is good enough to seriously attract any attention outside of L2, I really hope he stays.

If players aren't out of contract this summer, it's pointless debating whether they should be here. Going off Chaff's list I'd say:

Kevin Amankwaah - 6 Month Deal, not seen enough yet to fully form an opinion.
Brian Barry-Murphy - Release. Too slow and weak in the tackle, plus we cannot play a 5 man midfield next season if we want to challenge for promotion with 2 x 34+ Midfielders, probably on a good wage which I don't think he deserves.
Matty Edwards - If another permanent keeper is signed, release.
Simon Hackney - Release. Very dissapointing the lad has collected a wage for a year and not made one appearance. Not his fault but its upsetting all the same. Cannot afford to have this again on what will be a severely reduced budget.
Dean Holden - 12 Month contract, decent L2 player.
David Lucas - Coaching role and keep as sub keeper.
Joe Thompson - Release. I like the lad and can't fault his effort. However, hasn't got the confidence on the field to live up to any potential he may (or may not) have. As has been alluded to, no longer a 'Hot Prospect' - just a below average footballer. Think we will see him get 12 months at Stanley / Morecambe and then dissappear from league football - sorry.
Joe Widdowson - 2 Years, solid left back.
Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro - Undecided. Undoubted pace and effort, but he simply cannot finish. No composure in front of goal, seems to opt for a blast instead of a deft finish at every opportunity. Does change games as an impact player. Budget dependent on a contract offer.

And that is the key point when we look at it all, MONEY. With lower funds from the FL, and no Bury / Oldham / Sheff U / Sheff W / Hudds / Preston to prop up our attendance figures, there will be significantly lower turnover at RAFC next season. We've already seen apathy from our own supporters this season (I think there were only 2000 daleys at home v Sheff Weds), if we start next season poorly we could be back to the days of sub-2000 crowds. Dependent on how much flexibility we have built into our wage expenditure, this lack of gate income is enough to strangle the cashflow at a club like ours.

Bad times, I just hope the only bad news at Spotland in the next 12 months (if any) is on the pitch.

we should definately ry and get amankwah signed up. he is a solid player and is more a natural right back than centre back and would do well as a replacement for darby.

widdowson should be signed up.

hackney should be given another year to prove his worth.

everyone else should go so we can start fresh and lighten the wage budget for players coleman wants.

I would only retain widdowson and JLAA from out of contact player, Kev a 6 month deal and Hackney a month to month deal to prove his fitness. Of frozen out players I still think Bob will come good under JC, Joey might be worth a punt up front rather than wing, I recon about 6-7 signings in close season depending if any contract players go
