January Transfer Thread 13:27 - Dec 23 with 33530 views | KeithHaynes | Done some asking and Oli McBurnie is most certainly up for a loan back to the UK this window. I’ve been told four Championship clubs are interested. This will all fall on the fee’s involved plus he is on in the region of €36,000 a week. Big numbers but we know how these things can be negotiated. Do we have the money ? Yes. P&S will need to be positive and only the club really know where we are with that at this moment in time, It won’t be massively healthy. Oli has played fourteen games for Las Palmas this season with no return. He has never been a prolific striker, but could he settle into Luke’s team ?

January Transfer Thread on 09:44 - Jan 7 by RichardO | He had the makings of a good player when he came here, maybe Martin had too many centrebacks eventually with Woods, Cabango and Darling but at the end of the day none of them are naturally happy on the left side, if anybody out of the three were it was Woods, Darling ends up being in a quandary as to what is needed on the left at time especially alongside Tymon, alongside Naughton in the left fullback ppsition he knew one hundred percent that he needed to cover for Naughton's lack of pace so was very quick out to the left to close the through ball down with Tymon he doesn't make the decision to come across early enough at times but I'm nit picking and we would miss him. No doubtinng his commitment and trying to freeze him out with no viable alternative seems stupid, phase him out but at the moment we do not have that option. [Post edited 7 Jan 11:08]

IMO there is no reason to freeze out one of our best players, it's just plain stupid. If he was not playing well or not trying its another matter, but Darling is fully committed and gives 100% in every game.

I think it’s only Resolven suggesting this to be fair. It’s ludicrous

& won’t happen - unfortunately this is the reality of modern football it has little to do with what’s happened in the past. Two of the biggest clubs in the land have key players in exactly the same situation & are not freezing out Salah, TAA, KDB, VVD etc. Personally I still think we have a decent shot at retaining him but suspect it will depend firstly on us & how the second half of the season goes - if we were to finish top 9/10 & looked a decent proposition for next season - and secondly who actually comes in for him. Clearly if it’s an EPL or top 3/4 Championship side with deeper pockets we might struggle but don’t see a mid/lower division side being of much appeal even if it is a few quid more.

January Transfer Thread on 08:09 - Jan 7 by jackrmee | I never see the point in freezing players out. It’s normal for some players to want/need to move on from us. Especially when we pay pittance. Many players are still fully committed to putting in 100% at all times. These players, like Darling, should be allowed to do what makes them and their families happy, and we should support them with that. IF Darling wants to leave, it’s not his fault. The guy is happy here, with his family. He has just got too good for our wage structure, which is nothing to do with him. |
If he’s happy and getting what he is now, then why move at all. Family happiness is paramount ,or should be. If he went to Leeds, or Birmingham, his family might not be happy . Swansea area is light years away from both those cities and in a good way . Hell, when he retires ,he could even retrain for another job in life . Sadly, footballers are all about chasing the dough ,no matter what . It’s a matter of pride,it seems . The more they earn ,the better they feel . Rashford is earning shedloads for doing nowt but he is really happy in his soul ? Possibly not

It’s just a stupid notion. Even if he was frozen out, clubs would still want him on a free in the summer. We had the exact same scenario with Manning and a similar one with Piroe (one year left but valuable). They both gave 100% until their last game.

I still think they should trigger them early instead of getting in the bad feeling position of triggering them late. Better still sort out a new contract for them both. |
Think a discussion to let them know that we would like to trigger the extension as part of that discussion review the contracts, maybe better to do after January xfr business sorted, if that is done early then hold the discussions earlier.

You pick your team as the clubs needs dictates which is usually pick your best team, trying to keep him at the moment is the best option. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Low will go without doubt but where, who knows? I don’t quite get why Plymouth are in the hunt though. They’ve just made a club transfer record fee and are undoubtedly paying Rooney off. Where’s the money coming from???

It's being reported that Wayne Rooney left Plymouth by mutual consent, and isn't seeking any payment for the rest of his contract off them, if that's true, fair play to him

Well over an aggregate they can lose 41.5M over three years I understand. The new figures agreed a few months ago. This is why the Swans are very close to the threshold. Depends on what their (Stoke City) previous two years revealed. Looks like they are in the cart though. The question has to be is the 21M invested recently in to the Swans. Is that seen as not affecting FFP ? If it doesn’t the Swans are in the clear to invest in new players. If not then don’t expect any player investment other than very low (scuse the pun)

Unfortunately & as I understand it current P & S rules exclude all of the £21M investor/ownership support - if/ when the EFL moves to a squad cost system there may be an element of ownership support included.
