Why can't people just be quiet and observe the 2 minutes silence instead of clapping like seals, pathetic

I've never understood this modern penchant for breaking out in applause, as a means of honouring someone who has died. To me, it's innapropriate. A minute, or two's silence, is much more dignified, solemn, and way more apropriate for such an occassion.

I think it’s to do with people’s non existent attention spans. “So I’ve got to stand in silence for 1 minute ? Not say anything or do anything ? And I can’t scroll on my phone for a whole minute? What do I do with my hands in this time ? I know I’ll clap because I can’t bear the silence and thoughts in my own head!”

Totally agree with the original post . Was so annoyed Saturday that people just can’t follow basic instructions.

Remembrance Sunday isn't till next Sunday, so why were there two minutes silence at LR this weekend?

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

We've got 'lest we forget' "decorations" in the streets around here. Neighbours trying to out do each other with the size of the poppy in their gardens.

It's morons turning a solemn event into some sort of tacky festivity.

Probably me over-thinking it, but I can't help feeling that the root of it is another sign of the avoidance of facing death, which is rapidly becoming another taboo subject in our sensitive-flower age. People talk about 'celebrating life' rather than 'mourning', which is fine as far as it goes, but for me there's something psychologically important about acknowledging the final reality, and a short period of silence just seems more appropriate to me.

My memory is if your home game happened to land on the weekend of Remembrance Sunday you had a silence, and the last post. And that was it.

i'm probably wrong but I remember us doing it this way with last post, flowers etc before Man City in our first prem season under Warnock, before that it seemed a lot more low key. I've no issue with it and it's always emotional to see it done well but I'm just not sure when and why it changed from just a minute of the teams in the centre circle to a much grander thing

I was very confused on Saturday as guessed they were doing a minutes silence so stayed on the concourse rather than disturb people walking past them to get to my seat but then everyone started clapping so assumed it had finished.

I blame the death of Princess Diana for all this clapping nonsense. Is it really that difficult for some people to keep their mouths shut for a minute?

Yes. You have to understand that there is an absolute Westlife of cocksuckers out there generally and it is only going to be worse in a crowd of football fans. That's like condensed cocksuckery.
