fantastic read, and in your defence, excuse the pun, i don't think gordon banks would have saved that penalty......lot of style and panache that kid had.
When's Ainsworth gonna at least try play football as certain posters have been saying all summer he isn't a hoofball merchant and we're worrying for no reason 🙄

Lovely description of the journey. Pity about the football that followed.

I find it pretty sad that only 1 QPR player came over to chat with the few fans who went to pretty extraordinary measures to get there . At least give away the new jerseys and take a few photos its not like they were getting stampeded . Not sure what is going to happen this season but its not starting out great but that report was brilliant as per usual

Yeah, it was a pretty poor show all round - Chris willock, whose body language was dreadful, saw that they were putting the bench in front of us (5 qpr fans in a sea of 500 Slavia ones) and looked mortified at the thought. There was also Dykes, Dozzell and JCS in front of us and not one as much as acknowledged us let alone give us time or day.
After the game they all departed immediately down the tunnel and then decamped to the balcony above to chat amongst themselves whilst the Slavia players hung around for a good hour chatting to all and sundry. They knew we were down there too, as a) we were all in hoops and b) Paul Morrissey saw and waved to us.
afterwards as we were walking up the road back into town Kelman chatted to us again for a good 10 minutes, appreciated our support, told us about their week. I explained to him that when things are a bit shit the small things like acknowledging fans matter and he was genuinely touched at how much it meant to us to say hello. I’d like to think that this message (that we also passed onto Paul Morrissey) will translate to a better showing from the players vs Steyr, but I’m not holding my hopes…

I mean on the positive side Kelman seems like a genuinely nice kid. Tried to steal my beer at the start of the game
But, yeh, their faces when they saw where he was putting that PE bench was priceless. Come on lads, come and sit over here with us

I followed Rangers to Sweden one summer and ended up writing a similar article in AKUTR's.
It's galling, tbh. For the club it's free and good publicity. From the players it's a bit of acknowledgement to loyal fans for their support.

Kelmans probably got a smile on his face after spending a season at Orient, I imagine this sullen bunch of players will break the poor sod down soon enough.
Takes me back to 1970, the club used to have open days and the players couldn’t have been a nicer friendlier bunch. Frank Saul, Mick Leach, Dave Clement, Ron Hunt, Parkes, Gerry, very communicative with kids and adults. Good day out.
Back then there was a greater connection, players not earning a huge amount more than the fans who worshipped them probably a lot to do with that.
Rodney was the one who probably gave us a taste of what would come. Friendly enough and had pictures taken, still got them, but you could sense a difference even between him and the other players, let alone the fans. Not his fault but his pedestal was his ability. He got out of there in his Lotus long before the day ended.
I think the pedestal today is money, we know they’re not worth it, they know we’re thinking they’re not worth it and I’d hazard a guess they know they’re not worth it. Somehow, they need to get past this and let their guard down.

Just goes to show what these vastly overpaid players think of us.
You'd like to imagine our last good team would've been different. In a squad of Clint Hill, Shaun Derry, Jamie Mackie you feel some would have moseyed over and at least acknowledged the fans when there are so few, at such a ballache of a game to get to
QPR - "shit but local"

Must admit it seems very un-Ainsworth as well. Would've thought he'd be all for fan interaction.
The year of the Richard Langley hat trick at Blackpool. we found ourselves in the same hotel as the squad on the Saturday morning. My lad wanted to grab a couple of autographs - a hotel jobsworth tried to shoo him away, Olly noticed, gave the jobsworth a mouthful, then took us into the private room where they were having their pre-match meal, and took my son round every table to introduce him to the whole squad.
I was pessimistic regarding the season before I'd read that, now I'm convinced this is gonna be a bigger car crash than last season.
The one hope I had was that GA would galvanise some sort of us against the world mentality into the squad, but it sounds like they're still the same precious little flowers as the last 8/9 months.
Did you try to talk Radek Cerny out of retirement Clive?
Thanks for the first report from Austria. Hopefully the train journey made the day worthwhile, but I can't imagine they had a buffet bar to restock supplies!

Very disappointing, I can only hope that somebody shows Ainsworth these comments, they all have access to the Internet, I'm sure he would be disappointed as he knows how important it is to create a good relationship with the fans. Maybe the attitude of the ones on the bench was that after last season they experienced and saw a lot of criticism from social media, what they don't realise is that the people who travel all that distance are hard core supporters who love the club and not the Internet trolls giving it large from behind their keyboard.

Yeh I suspect there's probably a fair bit of apprehension there.

Sadly, if they do put a bit of effort in it will only be because they were told to. Not really surprised given last season, this just further reinforces thoughts on their characters.

They’re probably on a 7 or 8 grand a week . To use an Adrian mole term . They likely consider us the to be the hoi pilloi. They should wind their necks in a bit . They have a lot to prove after last years shitshow. A bit of respect wouldn’t go amiss.

My hope at least is that GA will bring in players to sort out the dressing room as this is were it needs to be resolved. If we look back at the 2011 team it was stacked full of leaders. Hill, Derry, Kenny, Gorkss etc..
Until that is sorted there is no chance of moving on.

For someone who was went to Sorrento in 06. I personally don’t remember the players engaging with the supporters at all. In fact the only person that spent some time talking to us candidly was Paladini. Said some interesting stuff about Danny Shittu. What I do recall was that the squad was split into individuals and groups/cliques. Some, like Shimmin, were just left to themselves. While new boy Nick Ward was allows into the senior players group. I didn’t get any sense of togetherness out there and this was the case on the pitch that season.

England doesn't have the same fan culture. If the Slavia players didn't hang around, they would likely be in trouble with the ultra groups and so on.
