Odds on to become our new manager. Underwhelming choice or the right man for the job?

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Why? He's got a good record with youth and developing players with Wycombe.

Not saying he's for me, but I defo think he's been typecast unfairly.

Yeah. I've got the impression Ainsworth is pretty flexible and given the players he would play a style of similar to that we play now.

Perhaps and maybe his Wycombe playing style is determined by the players he has at his disposal but it's a risky move IMO and it's a no from me.

It's not necessarily a negative to adapt your approach to what you have available, Warbs might have got better results if he took this approach towards the end of last season.

It does make it hard to plan player recruitment though, if we deviate from a preferred style of play and for example played a long ball, direct game and had decent results. Do we hire for our preferred style of play and change it or do you improve the efficiency of the team we do have?

When Beale got hired Les/ Lee etc all spoke about the DNA and style of playing being continuous ( also the whole poi t of a DoF structure) so to go Ainsworth would be a remarkable about face…

Can’t see it but the spin would be interesting

this whole style of play thing will be talking about in his interview. They've made such a big thing about the style of play over recent years would be crazy to think thats not mentioned in the process. No manager is coming into this squad and pumping it long to Dykes when you have Willock, Chair etc

Should be said Critchleys Blackpool team were quite direct at times as well playing a 4-4-2

Sky Bet shennanigans, publish an unfounded rumour, get a few last minute bets on Ainsworth to limit the losses on Critchley.

or the club saw the reaction to Critchley which wasn't great so leak this about Ainsworth and quickly see how well received Critchley is tomorrow

I can't see it being Ainsworth but Warnock was labelled long ball when he came in as well but he didn't do too badly mixing the passing style with more direct football.

Or Critchley’s dragging his heels over whether to take the job, salary etc and the club are giving him a nudge by leaking the Ainsworth story.

Indeed - as NW memorably once said:

This.

Not sure that GA is the answer right now but he has done a fine job at Wycombe and the club style will certainly be discussed with any interviewee.

I agree with this. Eze had a successful loan at Wycombe and, as another example, Ainsworth took the pacy 5 feet 9 striker Scott Kashket as a 20 year old and got good results with him.

In any case, surely managers/coaches can learn and change. Holloway did, even Pulis did, his style at Palace was very different to previously.

Gareth would not be my first choice, I would prefer Critchley, but I will get behind him one hundred per cent if it's him. In any case, it seems almost inevitable that he is going to get a go one day.

Oh and while we are on the subject of styles, the very best teams can play a mix of styles. If you can only play one, you can become predictable and teams can set up to nullify your plans. I've seen Real Madrid teams which can pass comfortably, for long periods, but which can suddenly change tactics and get the ball into the danger zone with just a pass or two.

OK, perhaps it might be unrealistic to expect our next manager to get us up to that level, but if we aim for the stars...

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

On this aspect, I think GA would be better suited to being manager of a side that loses Willock, or any combination of players that gets us out the shit financially as Clive reported.

If what Clive reported isn’t as bad as it seems, and we do indeed have a good chance of keeping these players then it has to be NC who takes them onto the promised land IMO.

Who knows anyway. Good luck to them both. It might be a name we’ve not even discussed.

I forgot about this!

How did Eze flourish at a side that reputedly plays long balls over the midfield?

Sky don't own SkyBet

Doesn't stop them spreading rumours to the right places to ensure more income from nothing.

No, but that applies to any bookie on any of the the thousands events they offer odds on.

Each bookie would need a small army to manipulate the markets that way and in any case they never take any sizeable money on these markets, so that's a much better, economic and business savvy way of managing this and any other market.

For info the same company - Flutter Entertainment - own Paddy Power, BetFair and SkyBet.

I don't have a problem with Ainsworth at all.
Has achieved incredible things at Wycombe which, let's face it, should really be in the National League or League 2 at best. Has proved a safe pair of hands with young players, notably Eze and, most importantly of all, he's not a snake who would walk out the first opportunity and spend all his time trying to get other jobs.

Critchley has one big thing in his favour and that is he costs nothing in compensation.

Yes, but if Gaz cost £300k in compensation but accepted £5k a week less, over a three yearr contract he works out nearly half a million cheaper!

He'd probably be cheaper to let go if things don't work out as well.

Made up figures but the compensation is not the only financial factor.

Neil Critchley on 11:57 - Dec 10 with 2910 viewsAntti_Heinola

Main reason i don’t want Gaz near the club is because if/when it goes wrong some of his biggest cheerleaders on here now would destroy him with malice. No thanks, would rather he remained loved by all.

Bare bones.

I would have Ainsworth all day long , done wonders at Wycombe and would love the job here
Some QPR fans need a word with themselves if they truly think he would go all Dave /Mike Bassett on the team
When he was caretaker manager for those couple of spells he wasn’t smashing it in to the channels
Imo he made us hard to beat and we played some decent stuff, he was also coach here when LDC got the giggsmd would have learned a hell of lot , the fella has 10 years experience and would be ideal but because he dresses like Francis Rossi some on here would rather this other trendy bloke who has worked with Stevie G and done his “badges”
Baffling

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

You know that post has actually won me over.

Especially (no idea) if we have someone mulling an offer over - get the Wild Thing in stat!

Is attractive football not possible on a budget?
Is Ainsworth a frustrated Dave Sexton who's forced to play long ball because of his pesky budget?

Not sure I buy that line of thinking.
