NFR - peer pressure, your worst ever music buys 09:54 - Mar 27 with 3424 viewsjonahwhereru

Let’s if this flys or dies.

I was bored enough to look through my albums yesterday and came across an album I only ever played one, as I never really liked the artist. My mates used to rave about Neil Young and truth is I never really got him. But because of my need to be seen as a wide ranging conisssure of music I bought After The Gold Rush. Waste of money but at least my mates thought I had taste.

Mind you this come from the bloke who’s first single purchase was Tie A Yellow Ribbon by Dawn. TRAGIC.

Anyone else willing to fess up a musical mistake.

Not so much peer pressure, but from reading Best Album Of All Time lists I bought Astral Weeks - Van Morrison and Forever Changes - Love. The only times I re-listened to them was to see what I missed first time round; never for pleasure

I bought a Captain Beefheart album once , absolutely dire. I think I only ever played it twice ,once to see what it was like ,and the second time to confirm how crap it was

Even though I wasn’t around when they were, I love the Small Faces. Bought a Humble Pie album off the strength of it and I’ve never been so disappointed. Over singing, over guitar non-descript rock with no songs to speak of except old blues covers.

To the OP I know what you mean about Neil Young. I quite like Crosby Stills Nash and Young though.

" Forever Changes " was worth buying just for " Alone Again Or ".

It's amazing how many albums used to get bought on the back of one track, and years later that's the only one that gets played

I suppose; but then you've got to remember to stop the album before it gets to the bit where his snot is caking against his trousers

Know what you are saying re Neil Young, however Like a Hurricane repaired the damage for me. My own buying error was via my liking for rock music with electric violin involved (e.g. East of Eden, Horslips) I had seen String driven thing at the Champness Hall, bought their album, and then thinking it would be similar and after reading a review in Sounds, bought an album by The incredible String band. Remains untouched since the day I first played it.

I also had a big Yes let down but that was when I bought an Osibisa album from Bradleys because it had a Roger Dean album cover, ludicrously thinking it just might be something like Close To The Edge..........it wasn't.

I made a similar mistake buying a Badfinger album.

To impress an Ex, I once pretended that I knew and liked a Swedish singer called Lisa Ekdahl. Cue receiving a cd for Christmas and birthday that I had to play whenever I was with my ex. Just wasn't my type of music at all

I've not played it for a while Dave. I'll have to re-visit it. " My Little Red Book " is another Love classic.

I've bought a number of albums on the strength of one or two tracks heard on the radio or even a previous album too numerous to list here.

Best buy ever: Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. Bought it in 83 and I just never tire of listening to that extraordinary piece of music.

Edgar Allan's Crow

My first ever album purchase was Hotshot by Shaggy. I'd love to say it was down to peer pressure but in reality, I was 7 and 'It Wasn't Me' was the greatest song ever written. Also bought Heaven is a Halfpipe by OPM at the same time. Interesting choices, looking back.

I'll go to my grave defending Heaven is a Halfpipe. Think I still have the CD single kicking around somewhere. Great backing for a game of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
