This Messageboard: A Resource 08:20 - Mar 15 with 9336 views | D_Alien | I've just been reading about someone who's designed a simple resource to help people during the Covid-19 outbreak https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-51880695 It looks like cases are now starting to multiply in the UK, as expected, and it struck me that this messageboard could become a similar resource for its users. We tend to do this naturally anyway, for instance when there's a road closure or some kind of incident, it's often posted on here before it hits the local news outlets But more than that. I'm thinking in terms of anyone who needs to self-isolate. The vast majority of us will have friends & family who can help, but even if there's just one person who needs something doing, its important they know they could post a request on here - perhaps not identifying themselves but including their locality/neighbourhood thus allowing anyone who lives nearby to PM them. Always taking the required precautions, both for security and prevention of spread of course And beyond that, even if no-one needs that type of practical assistance, there may be some who are less resilient in coping psychologically with this critical phase, of unknown length and outcome. This messageboard should be a place for them to find some respite It won't be long before major withdrawal symptoms from the normal sporting and general activities start to kick in. It's a test for the whole of our society, and beyond. Let's try to make a difference

This Messageboard: A Resource on 10:04 - Mar 27 by DaleiLama | Just seen on the news this morning that Govt is calling for UK housing market to be suspended. Since there is a lot of overlap between estate and letting agencies that won't help your lodgings search, unfortunately. Just thought I'd mention it in case you can start looking from where you are now and put some feelers out/get fixed up before things start to shut down? |
Thanks that is useful. Do you think it is OK to go on the moors with a tent and 2 weeks of food !!! On a serious note I'll have a look at bookings.com/AirB&B in Manchester centre/Rochdale once I have spoken to the insurance company. If Ethiopian airways closes down in the next day or so then all moot anyway

Just to add to that - wherever you stay, double check that it's been unoccupied by a previous guest/tenant for a couple of weeks (that should likely apply to booking/airbnb in particular, since the warnings not to travel for leisure purposes kicked in - i've had to cancel with both over the forthcoming month but with a full refund - but check anyway, also about their cleaning policy)

Thanks DA. Most places don't say when someone last stayed but I found one that refer to the coronavirus and say they do a full professional clean between guests. Got a flight on the 31st so looks like I will be in tumbleweed city by the 1st !! If you self isolate with no symptoms, just for peace of mind, is it 7 days? or is it 14 days both with or without symptoms?

If you're carrying the virus, it can take up to 5 days to develop symptoms, so if you remain symptom-free after 7 days you're good to go. If you do develop symptoms during that period, it then becomes 14 days (from the start) I guess the ideal would be to book a week with the option for a second, since you wouldn't want to be moving between places during the period of illness. I guess also, you'd need to check on the availability of food deliveries (including nearby takeaways, not a prob if in a city) Must be a huge relief to get a flight out. I was thinking that when you book online, you can usually see if the week before your stay remains available, in which case you'll know no-one stayed there directly before you; but with a deep-clean, should be fine
