That's an excellent article. I go back as far as Ray Aspden and Reeves was the best all round centre half I've seen in a Rochdale shirt. Reeves and Butler was also the best centre half pairing I've seen..

I would say Reeves was better on the ball and was a better passer of the ball.
Dawson was a much better passer, especially long balls into forwards. Reeves read the game better though, which was necessary as the team wasn’t as good as others have said. Butler only became consistent in the second half of his final full season, 93/94.

Totally agree, them balls Dawson used to knock like an arrow regularly from centre back to the wing, were something pretty special, I dont think we'll witness similar for a very very long time.

Not much to choose between Dawson & Reeves, wow good dream team combo. I always remember him scoring a header late on away at Cardiff almost from the pen spot. Caused me and my mate a hairy walk back to the city , seemed to upset the locals LOL

Always remember the Reeves goal at Cardiff where Dale managed a 1 nil victory after being under the kosh for a vast period of the game. Talk about smash and grab....
My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Ha! Didn't the Dale supporters coach get trashed by the Cardiff cavemen after that win too?
Just as an aside PG, you mention Reeves and Dawson as dream team material. What would be your dream team? There's a certain myth perpetrated on here that you don't rate any Dale player, past or present. I'm sure that's not the case although I suspect there's plenty of current Dale players who wouldn't make your 11 !!

They had a decent side back then as well, Carl Dale and Nathan Blake if I remember rightly, also a guy with a beard who I think played for West Ham. One for TVOS probably that.
I think the goal was shown on Granada just after he scored, not claiming to be the as pretty sure we did not take many!

Danny Gabbidon? He was 12 at the time of the game!
Chris Pike scored in the 64th minute. Not to be confused with Geoff Pike, who had a beard and played for West Ham.
